Brandon, you won’t regret buying a used Tesla. I bought a 2020 model three a couple years ago and it’s the best car I’ve ever driven. I wasn’t in it for environmental reasons mainly for gas savings as well as savings on maintenance. I absolutely love it. I commute 250 miles round-trip twice a week for work and love the fact that I never have to hit up a gas station or change my oil and brake pads.

I agree with Brandon regarding physical buttons vs. Screens. EVs try too hard and go overboard with tech. It's unnecessary. Give me buttons and switches. Most only take muscle memory to find, understand and use instead of relying on a dumb screen -- which menu is it on today? Did another driver move it per their preferences, etc. Plus when the screen doesn't work,nothing works!

About road tripping with a Tesla. When you stop at a Supercharger, you will know where, when, and how long the supercharging session will last. If you schedule you bathroom stops, especially with kids, meal stops and rest stops around these sessions, you will not be “wasting” your time. You will be dual using the time.

Oregon applies a 40 cent tax per gallon and the federal is 18 cents. So 58 cents out of the current 4.29 price of unleaded is not exactly taxing the shit out of it. Without the tax it would be 3.71 per gallon. Much higher than driving electric off home charging.

I was just in the same boat back in January. I was trying to decide whether to get a 2020 Model 3, or 2017 Model S. We decided we really preferred the cargo space with the hatchback and instrument panel screen in the S over the advantages of a newer 3. We ended up getting a 2017 S 100D with Enhanced Autopilot for $32K. Highly recommend finding one with EAP because it'll cost significantly less than one with EAP but yet only run you $2K to upgrade to FSD which also includes the hardware upgrade so it'll essentially become a much newer car. That's what we're doing very soon. We love our S. One of the most beautiful cars on the road, and arguably the most practical used car you can get. Moreso than the 3. Talking about parking the car outside: I park my Tesla outside in the Arizona sun. One of the best things about Tesla is that you can set the Cabin Overheat Protection, which keeps the interior around 100° instead of 150° in the summer. It uses about $1.50 worth of electricity to keep that active all day. Plus, when you are about to leave, you just open your app or smartwatch or smart speaker to fully activate climate, and the car will be fully cooled when you get in. No engine running, no fumes, just fresh air at the right temperature.

ADVICE: I bought my 2021 Model 3 with 41k miles about 7 months ago. I will say a piece of advice/awareness! We were in a van before the 3, getting in and out of a very low car like the 3 is wild. How did we ever ride in cars before? LOL. But for real, the Y will give you a higher vehicle and the seats on a higher stand. Along with more space, that's the reason the Y has outsold the 3. I would really only consider the S for more space or an amazing deal, but the S and X do have higher depreciation. Now saying that, buying one used the depreciation has pretty much hit. You also do get more mileage on the S and X. I would really pay attention to what you're doing to decide what battery size you want! I only use 10 to 30% of my battery daily! We do travel sometimes, but when you look at the big picture it's maybe three or four times a year and sometimes only two or three times. I can drive to Atlanta from my house for less than $10 using the supercharging Network, which has me charge for around 15 minutes. But if I'd gotten the bigger battery, I wouldn't have to stop at all. But that's simply because of that distance. If I traveled to Atlanta often, there is zero doubt that I would have a bigger battery. But I really don't, so I am excited that I didn't pay extra. For our situation.

Another thing that is under appreciated about Tesla's is that they don't have a power button or on switch. When my neighbor got his car stolen I realized that even if they broke into my Tesla they still could not start it. And not only that but the app shows the address of where it is parked.

I keep telling an ICE-car-dealer friend that the market for used EVs will be a great business-model over the next few years, as EV owners will be upgrading; the trade-ins/sales vehicle will still have a lot of life, and will likely been given love. Brandon is well-placed to dip-into this now, and in 3-5 years, he may be a Dynasty! GREAT SHOW, and YES on follow-ups. 👍🏿👍🏿

Besides windshield washer fluid and tires also every 2 years cabin filter change, Every 4 years check/change brake fuild. Also you have to use the brakes from time to time so that they dont rust away. the bushings on the suspension are also a problem on teslas. check for wheel play. warranty is 4 years for the whole car when new and 8 years on battery and motors. So if you buy a 2020 and its out of warranty and a door handle goes bad, you have to pay.
@DonLandis
@DonLandis 27 күн бұрын
Nice interview but I detected 2 inaccuracies in your answers. I owned a 2020 Model S Long RangePlus we mostly used for road trips and a little local driving. 1. The warranty is actually in two parts so Brandon needs to understand the difference. The drive train including traction battery is 150,000miles or 8 years. The bumper to bumper for everything else is 5 years or 50,000 miles. I traded my 2020 Model S in after 4 years this March on a new one. In 4 years I had two warranty repairs they did at my house. The washer fluid tank leaked and the charge port door stopped opening with the button on the plug but still worked with the screen access. Tesla swapped the circuit board and it was fixed. 2. The 2020 Model S has a battery that doesn't charge at 250KW. It is a 150KW maximum on all Superchargers and you are correct that from 10% to 90% it takes about 45-50 minutes. My new 2024 Model S LR can fully charge in about 25 minutes and peaks at 250KW adding 390 miles in that time for long road trip. Hardly enough time for bathroom break. Typically we have to stop more often so a 10 minute boost twice a day is good. My wife has a 2021 Model Y and loves it. It has the 250KW Supercharging speed. We love the hatch back and will never own a trunk lid ever again. She just got new tires after 32,000 miles. Cost was $1400 for the top quietest Hankook brand. Also for Brandon- When I traded my 2020 Model S in it still had plenty of B2B warranty miles remaining but the 4 year limit expired. Tesla gave me $43,000 in on a 2024 and I transferred the free Supercharging for life as well as my Full Self Driving to my new one. That was a perk at the time. So, a low miles 2020 with full warranty may be beyond your budget. I also typically still had 387 miles range on the battery on road trips. I love Full Self Driving and rarely go anywhere and drive manually anymore. Just safer and more relaxing on long trips. The computer helps me predict when to go to a Supercharger to charge. If you have to have a driver's instrument display, they are available from 3rd party accessories companies that just plug in and mount behind the steering wheel. If I drove the Y more I would buy one for $350-$500. Farzad- Love your channel and interviews. Keep up the good content!

No matter what you get, make sure to install a level 2 (240v) charger at home. I suggest you look at getting the standard range model Y. After the 7500 tax rebate, it is at about $35,500 + taxes. Brand new car, full warranty. If you want buttons and display in front of steering wheel, look at spending a couple hundred and getting the s3xy buttons. Use an old phone for the display and program the buttons to whatever you want them to do.

For Brandon, he uses a scan tool for the vehicles he buys, so how important or use full is the scab tool for electric vehicles? QUESTION 2: You never discussed aftermarket items for Teslas. I thought there was a display like what the Model S has behind the wheel, that is available for Model 3 vehicles? I know there is a button package that can be bought and used for whatever a person wants. So what after market accessories would be good for Brandon?
