What are your thoughts on The Witcher 4 trailer? Do you think it will be as good as The Witcher 3?

I have hopes. CDPR has shown to care about products. Even after failed launches. CP was fixed, even if it took awhile. They didn't give up like other studios and publishers might have done.

I would say I'm cautiously optimistic. I am optimistic because CD projekt red as a studio has a very strong track record of amazing writing (even if the cyberpunk release was fuked) for the reason why I say cautiously optimistic is some of the drama around the studio. Until I see actual narrative game play that I'm not going to be jumping to any assumptions. I got my fingers crossed that it's going to be amazing because the Witcher is honestly one of my favorite franchises in the world!

If it's done in a mature and authentic way I won't have an issue.

Dude, just read the actual interview. This interpretation has been pushed by Rock Paper Shotgun, while what's actually been said is that The Witcher series tackles a lot of serious issues and since Ciri is the first female witcher it may turn around some heads - therefore sexism might be one of many topics, however, it will not be the leading one. My god, there is so much fabricated outrage around this game.....

@Manic.miner2077 I am not frustrated about people having different opinion, it's impossible for everyone to like the same things. I am however frustrated by people manipulating information to fit their narrative and by other people repeating these convienient slogans/cropped screenshots without doing the research (don't take it personally, I'm talking about the general discourse). As for the Witcher 3 devs - most of the main ones left but the core "craftsman" are still in the company, they also got some talents from other studios and game's director (Sebastian Kalemba) is a part of the original TW3 team. Not to forget that most of the Cyberpunk devs are still there and this game was a bloody masterpiece (the terrible launch is on the studio heads, not on them) And believe me, I had my own share of outrage with my favourite franchises ruined by "the message", but in case of The Witcher I find it extremely exagerated and based on repeated lies, manipulations and carefully selected information with no proper context.

The idea was that women didn't survive any of the trials while witchers were developed. They're aware of this. There will obviously be some reason Ciri was able to. If the reasoning is dumb or poorly written, judge away, but excluding the possibility that there's a good justification is silly. I could list off potential explanations like anyone else, but it's irrelevant until we see more of the game. Also, Ciri looks fine. I did really like Ciri's voice actress in TW3, but she also sounded very young, and might not have had the right voice to drive the entire game. I do hope the new VA captures her essence though, because Ciri is such a good character. She's the obvious choice for a non-prequel.

The books say Ciri is Gerald's true child surprise. So technically she wouldn't have to do the trials her witcher powers would eventually manifest themselves just like her magic powers did.
@MichaelStratton19932 күн бұрын
The vibe I got from Witcher 3 is she doesn’t need mutations because she’s already a overpowered badass, also everyone at Kaer Morhen wanted to discontinue the mutations. Ciri will likely be a Witcher in name only. They’ll probably find away to explain away why she can take Witcher potions such as her time being experimented on by wildhunt.
@k1ler4m2 күн бұрын
She hates the elder blood thing and the fact that half the world rulers want to take her and force her to bear a child of the elder blood to weaponize it, that alone would make her take the trial which makes you infertile. Plus we do not know what else could happen in the game too early to judge and be this dismissive about it.
@s1b3r113 күн бұрын
Most hate and complains (especially the ones about her looks) are vastly exaggerated... People see what some developers do by involving politics and instead go to the other extreme panicking every time there is a strong female character. That being said, in this case some people are worried also because as you said large part of the crew involved in the Witcher 3 either left or were fired and the studio was confirmed to work with sweet baby at some point (at least this is what I've heard). Personally while I don't have anything against playing as Ciri I'm worried she will be way too op. Even before, she was a powerhouse and one of the strongest beings in the universe who could keep up with the witchers even without the trials... I loved her being unique and I'm kinda afraid that they will either make her a regular witcher or make her way too op.

0:40 Of course criticism is needed. Better now than after the game is released. 0:53 The problem is that Geralt was replaced by Ciri (Witcher🤯). it's like Natana Drejk was replaced by Chloe in Uncharted 5. 1:59 The Witcher 4 trailer is not CGI. The criticism is not going to change anything. They're not changing the precedent they've set with the trailer. The narrative is likely already finished as they've being working on the game for years. Ciri will be the protagonist and she will be a mutated full on witcher in this game, that much is certain. Beyond that we know nothing of this project. The only thing that might be a little different is Ciris look but I doubt they will change her much and I don't think that's a problem, she looks perfectly fine in the trailer. Complaining isn't going to do shit, they're going to make the game they want to make and when it releases the people who don't like is simply don't have to buy it.

@@JH-fp1lw Of course, the fans' opinion is taken into account. Maybe not in a fundamental matter, but complaining may affect the woke content in the game. I completely understand people's skepticism around how the industry has been going but to try and destroy a game that is probably still 2 years out solely based off of the initial CGI trailer is fucking wild to me. And don't even get me started on the "but Ciri can't be a Witcher" bulshit. Anybody that tries to claim that clearly has not read the books or even played through the majority of the games... Maybe if they had done a spin-off with a random chick instead of Ciri I would agree with these idiots but we all knew that Ciri was going to be the next Witcher protagonist.
@spamuraisensei3223 күн бұрын
I've read the books, there are no successful female witchers. CDProjekt is creating their own lore with Ciri becoming one and that's fine, but it's not book accurate lore. Given how bad Cyberpunk was at launch I don't mind people not giving them an inch of breathing room.

@nubbyfresh56233 күн бұрын
@spamuraisensei322 I have also read the books for a second time here very recently. In the books they simply mention that in the early testing of the trials young girls didn't survive. Along with roughly 80% (I could be slightly off on that percentage it was either 70 or 80) of all children who went through the trials perished. Yet in blood of elves Gerald and vesmir were not only training Ciri to fight like a Witcher but they were also giving her the precursor potions to prepare her for the trials. That is until Triss shows up and essentially puts an end to the idea of her actually going through the trials. So not only was she already prepared as a child for the trial of the grasses but narratively it would make sense given across all of the books and games she is being pursued solely for the ability of somebody to impregnate her so that they can have a child born of the elder blood under their control. One aspect of the trial of the grasses is the fact that it makes you completely sterile. So narratively speaking that would be an ideal route for Siri to go down especially given the fact that she's always looked up to and idealized Geralt and wanted to follow in his footsteps of becoming a witcher. Then you've also got the aspect of her actual elder blood which in theory could make her more resilient to the lethal effects of the trial of the grasses. As far as the cyberpunk release goes, I'm less worried about that aspect when it comes to the actual writing of the game. That is one of the reasons why I say I am cautiously optimistic though because I do worry if the game will launch in a completed state or a broken state. But as far as the actual narrative, story writing, and world building of cyberpunk goes. They fucking nailed it! Outside of the unplayable version it launched in the actual corps story of the game is fucking amazing. They definitely pissed me off with the launch though because I pre-ordered that game 6 months in advance and could never get past the first 20 minutes of the game because it would blue screen my PS4 every time. Luckily they have fixed the game since then and it runs beautifully now and as I stated before, the fucking story is amazing. That's why I say I'm not as worried when it comes to the writing when you look at cyberpunk. If anything it gives me a little more hope for the studio because even though at that time there was all kinds of dei bulshit going on within their studio they were still able to write an amazing story.

I'm kind of on the same page as an older gamer. Game after game lately have been overpriced for the amount of work put in. Makers don't seem to be that interested in gameplay/storyline/hours to beat. Add on top of that the wokeness generation now at the helm, along with hardware prices. It's become more of a balancing act for future game purchases. The last thing anyone want's (especially after covid lockdowns) is a game that tries to teach You somebody else's morals. That said, the previous developers left and renamed them selves "Rebel Wolves" for a reason. Something happened; I don't know what, but all I ask is for all developers the opportunity to opt out of woke story lines.

The protag was always going to be Ciri, that's not the problem. (and we'll skip straight past how they're blatantly ripping off the anime Claymore, now - woah lol) When I first saw the trailer - I assumed that because of the way Dudu's eye changed when he imitated Ciri - that it was a Leshen imitating Ciri, and the trailer was going to do a really cool scene where the camera panned and then there was ACTUAL Ciri standing across from the Leshen, about to finish it. :( Honestly - faces aren't mythical. _Beauty is a literal science;_ *It's down to math.* Have you ever noticed how annoyingly good AI seems to be at creating attractive women? _Yeah._ *Math.* Look at her nose, cheekbones and jawline... they're all between 1.2 and 2 *times* the size that they were. If you knew anything about faces/genealogy, you'd know these 2 people barely share an ancestry. When Dudu mimics Ciri's appearance... Do you remember the eye? What would you need to do to Dudu, in order for his impression of Ciri to land at TW4's version of Ciri? Seriously. _Exactly_ how many unique and exciting horrors would you need to inflict? Read: In this world, especially considering that dopplers exist, this person would _quite-literally_ *never* pass as Ciri. *_Ever._* Beauty is a math of proportions - and her nose, cheek bones and jawline have all been grossly changed. "She looks older" Dear God - how much gas station sushi would you need to eat, while living under which paint factory, over what period of time - to age in this fashion? Actually, I can kind-of answer that: Nose enlargement on this scale, is an actual medical symptom of a life-threatening illness. _Seriously._ (Read: If this person were real, her face presenting in this way would be a *literal cry for help* ) "She has scars and ev-" She always had scars, and her most-prominent one has healed so much in the trailer that it takes most people a while to notice it... Dandelion in drag and makeup would - literally - look more like Ciri, _because his face is the same general shape._ Honestly, I'd be curious if we could somehow do a test with the faces like 20 feet away, and poll which is Ciri. Objectively, she went from a 9 to a 4, and I'm honestly being generous by not saying a 10 to a 3 (because there's a serious argument to be made there). I really don't understand how someone can claim to appreciate the character, while being okay with them doing this to her.

And, as far as the mechanics go, both the fans and the character deserved: _The Child of the Elder Blood: Part 1_ She was already an uber mage waiting to be trained by the lodge... She already was good with a sword... She already had the Elder Blood to explore... She was already stronger than any Witcher. What - exactly - does this character need to be a Witcher for? Especially since we spent the last 3 games exploring what it is to be a Witcher... Seriously, did she render herself barren to honor of her Father figure? And we're all just okay with that??? And let's forget what Yennefer said about the Elder Blood interacting with the Trail of Grasses potentially being world-ending. And let's forget women in the trials, and let's forget adults in the trials and let's just forget everything - "because woman." But we would have been able to explore the world as a woman, regardless of her being a Witcher - so I'm not sure why anyone is pretending that has anything to do with it. This game reeks of the desperation that CDPR didn't trust this character to stand on her own. Hence: _The Witcher, part 4..._

And yeah, in fairness their trailers have always been different from in-game - BUT. Their trailers have always featured attractive people, *until now.* Seriously, again, physical beauty is a math - do a basic web search. Nobody gets to pretend that this person is attractive. Seriously. And that matters, because this character WAS attractive. Not every character needs to be attractive, but they very-seriously need to explain this apparent vandalization.

AND in the lore books in Witcher 3? I think - it literally explains that women can't be Witchers. A dude tries 36? times with different women, and it's a 100% fatality rate. Unfortunately, I've only been finding other people referencing the lore book - and not the book itself... Because this conversation that we're having has made it literally impossible for me to find it again via web search. It's rather frustrating. ...and I'm sure that they only put *young* boys through it, because they were men - which obviously makes them moustache twirling villains... Right...
