Usually we have a pretty healthy household, but lately everyone is getting sick. We have a bad cold that has been going through all the kids and now Crystal has it. Hopefully everyone will get better soon.

My heart broke knowing a one year felt like he needed to eat from the trash 💔 And its so sad to know that Brody is struggling with this and in fear that there won't be anymore food 😢 I truly hope Brody gets the comfort her needs to get thru this at just the innocent age of 5. Thank you for being so open to talk about Brodie's food hording challenges! My husband and I were foster parents for over 10 years in both Alaska and Idaho. We had many kiddos that wouldn't allow us to throw away their uneaten food or eat from the trashcan! We started Fostering our youngest 2 daughters at the age of 2 & 3.5 yrs old. They are now 13 & 14.5. My girls have pre-verbal trauma and have been in therapy for 9 years! Our 14 yr old is our food hoarder, even though we have plenty of food in the fridge and Fresh fruit on the counter! One strategy that has helped... Each week we fill her snack basket with both prepackaged snacks and healthy snacks ( 1 snack per day, but we started with 2 per day until she knew and trusted that her snacks would always be there). She then backed off on how many snacks she was eating! Miss E knows that the basket belongs to her, she doesn't have to ask to get into it, and it's up to her if she want to eat it all at one time or space it out. However, No food may be brought into the bedroom or this privilege is stopped. All my kids are color coded (cups, bath towel, washcloths and snack baskets). This alleviated from, "That's not my towel, cup, etc! lol I love your family and look forward to watching all of your Crazy fun! 💗 Angie in Idaho

I read about this kind of behavior and it's definitely when his mind goes back into primal mode. it's not a conscious thing at all and can be really difficult to work through. One of the suggestions from a book i read was to put a basket/box in his bedroom with food that doesn't spoil. That way he feels more in control and if he feels he needs to eat something than he can. It would be more of a comfort thing than anything. You just need to make sure its always topped up. The book is called 'The connected child' by Karyn Purvis, David Cross and Wendy Lyons Sunshine, if you were interested. Hope he settles again soon.

Here in the UK people have been bulk buying and now all the stores are putting rules in place and limiting essential products so there is enough for everyone. You can't get deliveries at all either. My community have been stockpiling and delivering to the elderly and disabled people. Stay safe!

I know what you mean about everyone getting sick in a big family! I have eleven siblings and by the time everyone gets the flu/cold going around the person who had it first gets it again and it starts over! It's so stressful and exhausting! And yes the shopping during this time with a big family is crazy!

Really feel for the poor wee man, with his anxiety getting worse and bringing up old issues. I hope its just a temporary blip, but as I say to my other half when his anxiety gets worse - everyone has wobbles, its not something to beat yourself up about, you'll get past it just like you've got past it before. And I think that applies to the wee one, but also to you guys. Don't beat yourself up over his having a wobble, its perfectly natural and you're not to blame! You're there for him, and thats all he could need or hope for in life.

When I lived with my sister we went thru the same thing colds and stuff passing thru everyone, but when my niece Gabby got sick, I kept my distance, because I always followed her in getting whatever was going around...I worked with children, and most of them did the same, talking and reassuring them there was plenty got them thru...its hard for them to recover from abuse, prayers going out for Brody and everyone...

We’re having everything delivered we can, which is basically everything - from groceries to birdseed to seeds/plants/compost & soil for our veggie gardens (which we are enlarging because of the situation), etc. thanks to local stores and amazon. Also, most fast food & restaurants have no contact delivery, pick up, curbside pickup (which we are choosing not to do but it is an option). I’m glad we live where we can do this but it’s also hard not being able to shop ourselves. There are many things we will do without because of the virus. Anything brought into the house is disinfected before it can come in per directives on medical news.

God Bless you for being parents that try to understand a child that has food issues and you don't punish them. I wish the system had more people like you. I was unfortunate to have foster parents that punished severely if they found you hiding or with open pkgs of food. You wouldn't get to eat the next meal or they would hit you with a belt..."that'll teach you" they'd say. Your children are so blessed to have you as you feel blessed to have them. I can only try to imagine how challenging times like this can be for a little kid like Brody with what he's been through. I'm guessing that aside from the empty shelves and people talking about hoarding, the general anxiety almost everyone carries right now also affects him. I know it is NOT the same, but I've had an eating disorder, and when things are out of my control I tend to fall back into that for comfort. I'm guessing it can be similar with that kind of issues as well, it sort of becomes his way of feeling in control in a situation where nobody can't control what's going on right now. I hope he feels safer and better soon with that too! Also, how cute is Aurora sleeping on Alex! And is it just me or has she become quite talkative lately? She's absolutely adorable!

My adopted son has regressed and is very challenging with all this also. It throws everything out of control and is very difficult for these children who've had so much pre-adoptive trauma. I understand what Brody is going through completely. I'm 43 years old and was adopted 33 years ago today April 1 and still have issues with food and always feeling like I'm not going to get enough. I remember the night/early morning when a flu struck our home. I had a friend spending the night and one by one we all started throwing up. (There were 15 children in our family). We only had one bathroom so as you can image it was a panic to find a bucket or a bag to be sick in. As far as the food goes we always had plenty. No assistants. My mom would buy bread from the bread guy. One rack every week. That is 12 loaves. My heart really hurts for Brody. He is so lucky to have you two.

Yes, I can relate to your statements on buying a lot at the grocery store. I have a huge family. We have 8 kids--one grown and gone--but still a lot of food. We try to stay stocked up as I hate making multiple trips to the store. I do return for stuff like bread, milk, eggs, and TP. I have gotten the stares when buying more than one gallon but my family can go through a gallon in about 2 days or less. I have explained myself when I get questioned but do get the comments.

Ashton May - butter one side of 2 pieces of bread. Place 1 piece of bread buttered side down in pan. Add a few slices of cheeses(s) - can use more than one type of cheese. Can also add ham, tomato if wanted. I usually add a little mustard too if I’m adding ham. Place second slice of bread on top buttered side up. Cook on lo/med til browned and then flip to second side and cook til browned. If using a lot of cheese cook lower to give cheese a chance to melt. Can also google grilled cheese/toasted cheese recipes for more recipes!

I started making my own mayo since I can get fresh eggs now, so easy! And yes it’s so hard being sick and pregnant! Ugh the trickle effect is to true. My heart goes out to Crystal, is not easy. The grocery shopping struggle is REAL. Down here we have to drive to chandler to get basics because we can only get 1 gallon of milk, 2 loaves of bread and 1 package of each kind of meat... it doesn’t work for our house hold of 10!

there’s a lot of people in my house too! anywhere between 9 and 13 at a time so shopping for food has been a struggle and especially since now here in the uk we are only allowed 1 member of the household in a shop at a time

I think it's an important issue that you bring to light, that a lot of children and babies who suffer from neglect and hunger or malnutrition end up with life-long food struggles. I have seen this first-hand as well during my work in early intervention; one particularly difficult case I witnessed was of twins who were placed into foster care at about six months and the home they had been removed from favored one baby over the other and therefore fed that baby more (though both were undernourished) and both babies would hoard food as young toddlers. This case, as well as Brody's, shows the longevity of those effects and also the natural instinctual impulse that is triggered by those issues. It is so sad!

1st week of Quarantine they took me aside and took 2 gallons of my milk (4 people, 2 adults + 2 kiddo's) even since then we have been limited to 2 gallons of milk per week. We were not hoarding. We would normally drink 4 gallons a week. Now we drink 2. Kids milk only. Lots of love from New Hampshire

And with food I totally understand talking to my little brother we were homeless a few times. Or with very little food so now as adults he sometimes over takes food, not to go hungry, he knows he's not cause he buys plenty for his family, but it's just a mental thought, for me I also buy food for the family all the time, but if I'm hungry like at work and I see supervisors giving others stuff, and act funny around me, I get upset, and tell myself or remind myself I won't beg for food from no one so then my hunger goes away cause I get upset. I have forgiven, but it was how family and People we knew treated us when mom, I and my little siblings were in this dark place.

Love your family! As for colds and pregnancy, how about a nasal douche with a saline thingie? I do this every time I get a cold, it helps immensely and I think it is safe to do during pregnancies. it is just water and salt (they come prepacked so you can't overdue it).
