Loved the game and played it a lot back as a kid. Never knew what I was supposed to do though so I just mainly wandered around collecting stuff.

Definitely a much more involving game once you know which items you need to collect and with which characters - turns out to be a decent game indeed 😇🕹️👌

I remember playing all 3 of them and being rubbish with all of them. But as I remember it, I had fun not knowing what I was doing.

Back in the early 80s, most gives literally gave nothing away! That was half the fun, trying to figure out what the whole idea was in the first place... I guess that was the developers way of making sure we got the most out of the games at the time 😇🕹️👌

Never heard of this one, probably very UK. This graphical style reminds me of Below the Root, and has really strong nostalgic pull for me.

I got this in a double-pack from Boots in 1986 - this and Manic Miner for a fiver! I played the audio side of the cassette so much that summer it stopped working, so I had to send off for another tape. There is a reason for playing the Asteroids mini-game - shoot enough lightning bolts and a "ping" will sound. Now when you go to the pylon, the lightning bolts there will move away from the conductor, allowing Harry the electrician to fix it (if he has the right items). Dick needs the cement (bucket of water from the fountain plus sand, go to the cement mixer) and the trowel to build the wall of bricks. Harry can then put the charged battery into the forklift and Wally can operate the forklift to go up the completed wall to get the letter! It's a complicated game and I never finished it. I was a big fan of Herbert's Dummy Run too.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer16 күн бұрын
Thats superb thanks for this Andrew... I didn't have a clue about the Asteroid 'pinging' which will technically disable the pylon. Mikro-Gen definitely put a lot of thought into this game and the more I'm learning about it the better it becomes, retrospectively. Nice music too! 😇🕹️👌

There was a "Wally" meme in the mid 80's. I remember buying a book at the time - How to be a complete and utter Wally. Still live by it's rules.

I never had this, but to be honest, I probably wouldn't have spent much time with it. There were a lot of similar looking games, and I usually dismissed them in favor of more graphically flashy games that were easier to figure out.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer16 күн бұрын
Its quite a decent little game for an early arcade/adventure if you like exploration games with puzzle style elements. But like you say, if you preferred the flashier graphical ones then this wouldn't have been up your street and there were plenty coming out in 85' 😇🕹️👌

Personally, I think it's wonderful that C64 is perfectly capable of doing direct ZX games ports. Glorious hires, even with color clashes - has its own specifiic, retro, surreal charm. I love it today, possibly more than decades ago, but still - hires does impose its own advantages in some game designs. Nice to see well defined shapes now and than. Certainly, C64 has no bright palette as ZX, and its CPU is slow - but makes up technically with a mixture of soft and hardware sprites. But sheer possibility of choosing C64 usual mode, or ZX mode - puts a stop to microcomputers wars of the 80's - C64 has Spectrum features, and than much more. That's a fact. Now, important quality of ZX is simple - it offered no other option, thus coders and game designers did their best to utilize soft-based hires, everything was done that way. C64 developers had other options, and rarely dived into ZX field of work. Understandable, but from my point of view - we should've got much more of this hires bitmap stuff, I wouldn't mind at all. C64 rulez! And cudos to ZX, of course, such a thriving culture around that one, no doubt.

Why the hell didn't they assign sprites for everything that could have been? It looks so awful when you see the ZX Spectrum style colour clash as some of the objects change colour as they go over the backgrounds!
@CheekyCommodoreGamer17 күн бұрын
Yeah, it was originally developed for the ZX Spectrum by Mikro-Gen and then later ported to the Commodore 64. The game does retain its distinct style and gameplay, though some obvious visuals with the colour clash were left in for some strange reason - this was pretty common with direct ports I guess 😇🕹️👌
