Last time I had pink eye (aka: conjunctivitis), I think I was in either 8th or 9th grade. That was a complete nightmare, but not as bad as going to school while you have symptoms of the common cold. My mother didn’t even know I was sick, but my teacher knew, and then I got sent home for the rest of the week, and also an additional week to keep everyone safe, so it’s not really much of her fault for sending me to school while sick. My teacher kept me away from the other students in my class to keep them from getting sick (since I was in a class with students who had special needs), which made me feel even worse. A couple days later, I receive an email from my teacher and my classmates telling me to get better soon, which sort of lifted my spirits. I felt sad that I had to sit alone at school, but I know that it was just for the health and safety of the other students in my class. Back to the pink eye thing… I woke up one morning and one of my eyes was stuck and wouldn’t open, so my mom kept me home that day and didn’t send me to school. Don’t know where I got it from or how I got it, but I got it from somewhere. And that’s why people tell you not to share water bottles and/or to touch your face. I know what happens in my own life… trust me.

Hey, native to the USA here. Yes- pink eye is absolutely a thing. It can have many different causes (bacterial, viral, even fungal on rare occasions, which is also why it doesn’t have a specific name, aside from conjunctivitis) and it does have the symptoms/appearance how they show here. Typically it’s not super dangerous, although it does require medication to cure most of the time. What pink-eye is most known for is being EXTREMELY contagious. If one person in the house has it, it’s pretty much a guarantee everyone will get it too. My best friend is an elementary school teacher, she said that one kid in her class came to school with pink eye- the school literally closed that entire wing of the building for a week and had to hold classes in other areas of the school. My mom is also a doctor who works for a government owned hospital- she said someone came in with a case of pink eye, the hospital had to bring in a team of professional biohazard cleaners to make sure the ER was fully sanitized.

All this episode did was make me hate pink eye so much more. The first time I had it was in late July/early August 2008 while also having pneumonia. I woke up late one night and couldn't open my eyes. Reason for that was because of pink eye. Only other time was in July 2012 (the night *_Ninjago_* season 2 premiered on Cartoon Network). Thankfully, it was in only one eye this time. And I've never had it since.
