Cenk has always been like that - he is dismissive and obnoxious. And this is coming from someone who used to at least respect the guy. But lately it's his rightward shift. I always expected him to be a bit more conservative but even this is sad. My true anger is towards Ana. Ever since her trans panic and her eventual why I left the left video, I have been fuming for her. Mostly because she was criticising and insulting people like Jimmy Dore and Dave Rubin for grifting, and rightly so, and then she goes and pulls the exact same trick. Like, to the letter. Pisses me off so much.

I'm a millenial. I used to enjoy TYT and found them to be a pretty reasonable voice years ago, before they fell a bit off the radar of me. When they popped back up, it was because of stuff like the "birthing person" thing and their anti-homeless nonsense. I'm not sure anyone should be surprised by their right wing shift. TYT has produced a number of high profile grifters that went that route. Clearly whatever is going on behind the scenes doesn't have anything to do with having a principled opposition to conservatism and the rising fascism. I don't think Cenk and Ana deserve any benefit of the doubt. In their past, they've laid out exactly how the grift works and how people like Rubin and Doore did it. Now they're following in their footsteps. I can only conclude its because of money.

I still remember the day that we were in the middle of the 2016 primary and suddenly TYT stops broadcasting for about 10 minutes, they disappear, I can't remember if they put up a placard or what but when they came back online their entire tone towards Bernie had shifted. And I was just like did someone just cut them a check? That was when I quit watching TYT.

Wow! Soo interesting what you said about Matt Walsh not attacking Ana. I have thought for awhile that she wants to leave TYT for more money. She’s always whining about Hasan quite blatantly. Ana is much more marketable for the right than Cenk. So long as Ana sticks with the “why I left the Left“ spiel. So long as she continues to say she’s on the left but continues to attack trans women, the homeless and crime figures she’s worth her weight in gold. If she stops saying she’s on the left I think she’ll find that her marketability will be as dead as the dodo to the right. I am one of those older gen Xers. I've followed TYT almost from the beginning. I was more to the left of them than and still are now. I've always known Cenk is a former republican and still held some of those leanings. But, I saw TYT as one of the few that backed those of us to the left when it was called for. Now, I can't trust that. He's decided that we aren't worth grace, only derision. If I was someone close to him I'd watch what I say, if it saves his own skin he'd throw them under the bus.What made me finally stop watching completely was both Ana and Cenks hyperbolic reaction to criticism. Nobody but Twitter weirdos are calling Cenk a nazi. The overreaction, sensitivity and hyper fixation on terminology is not very adult of either of them. It's reminiscent of middle school children.

Ben Dixon and Mondale were having a discussion and somebody called Ana “Ana Asparagus”. Wow, what grade are we in? Ana then responds by trying to pull a race card saying Kasparian is an ethnic name. True enough except that. When you get down to brass tacks, every name is an ethnic name. This s kind of stuff is certainly amusing to watch but it sure doesn’t accomplish anything.

Great analysis. I saw Cenk turning grifty a couple years ago, so his descent is less surprising to me. But I was seriously troubled by Ana's turn. I think you hit the nail on the head. She's been complaining for years about the long hours and low pay at TYT. The millions she could make for like 20 hours of work a week at Daily Wire has to be pretty tempting. It all makes sense now.

I agree with a lot of what you say about the strategy of thinking people like Charlie's fans are genuinely gonna be open to leftist policy ideas, and I was annoyed that Cenk didn't put any emphasis on the contradiction of the "populist" message they are all cheering on vs Trumps record in office as an extreme corporatist. But I have to ask you, what positions have you seen Cenk flip on? The grift involves slow progression to the right but I don't hear him changing his positions on things. That said, I do remember him as little as 2 years ago screaming about how all Republicans have gone crazy and are in a cult. So I think he's genuinely changing his strategy on how to make inroads w people on the right, but I don't think anything he or anyone says would make much difference if daddy Trump disapproved of it. I also think just refusing to attempt good-faith talk with right wingers is a strategy that gets you nowhere. Thanks for the video !

I don't think you're going to get a lot of converts by talking to a Charlie Kirk audience about how great they are and how bad Dems & the left are - they are committed ideological right wingers, conspiracy theorists and cultists who hate left wingers and love to have their worldview validated by someone they perceive to have "seen the light". Targeting messaging to low information voters, swing voters and non-voters is a different matter - you can win votes there. But those people don't attend, or watch videos of, political conferences. Anyway, I don't think Cenk is grifting, but I do think his strategy is flawed.

I think part of the issues with Cenk is at times he refuses to change, for example the birth person thing, he’s pretending like people genuinely have the position that they call every woman a birthing person in casual conversation, when he’s intelligent enough to know it’s just used academically and medically. Where I do feel he has changed is calling trump a fascist, right wingers have actually been the ones pointing out that he did that just months ago. Now he’s acting like calling Trump fascist is just hyperbolic and silly. I recall in his convo with Francesca where he dismissed the idea of Trump making camps, when he RAN on mass deportations, had camps in his first term, and is already been given bigger areas of land. Where I do agree with Cenk is that we should go in right wing spaces, be kind where you can but always be real. If someone being real there would be a lot more confrontation in the TPUSA event when Cenk was on stage lol. But I don’t recommend going 100% aggro, but if Cenk calls out the corruption of Dems and the media on that stage, he’s GOTTA call out the right wing equivalents. Thank you for watching!

having watched cenk's attempt to defend himself with franny on bitchuation, i feel like he has an idea (reaching out to alt-right) but he is 1) the wrong person to do it, and 2) doing it at the worst timing possible. he's too thinskinned and can't take criticism without going ballistic... especially not when he feels cornered by multiple personalities. he has a slight point in that it is not wrong to "be welcoming" and to "engage the alt-right"; but the way he's doing it just looks terrible to every single lefty out there. in the end it simply comes off as a desperate attempt to revive his flagging channel, but it's also backfiring horribly with lots of subscribers not agreeing with his methods and leaving. i think there is room for some folks to be engaging the alt-right, not necessarily for votes, but just to keep channels open and some level of good-faith dialogue going. but cenk is just not the best person for this role, especially when he's more or less alone when it comes to going on charlie kirk's show. lots of lefties do piers morgan, for instance, and a few even make it onto fox news - which is really a bit of a lesson. fox news tends to ONLY summon lefties when they wanna criticise the dem party (and the dems DESERVE all the bashing from all sides, really) but what fox news does is use lefties to bash the dem party _to their rightwing audience_ which we all know, is old and decrepit, more likely to be one foot in the grave than switching sides. it's complex and nuanced (another thing that cenk sucks at) but going on rightwing media is often just a lose-lose for the left, since you're not actually going to engage folks who could potentially change their minds about certain viewpoints. this is always true when it comes to shitty corpo rightie media like fox news. for alt-right indie stuff tho, there's a small possibility that their younger audience may agree with certain points cenk brings up. maybe cenk talks about immigration from the migrant's pov and some of these 20yo listeners hear that for the first time since they've been stuck in the alt-right bubble. that's worth something i guess? but that's not all that happens... since alt-right media will also clip cenk out of context for all it's worth. they'll also smear the left whenever cenk says "the left is unwelcoming". in fact, cenk's utterly bizarre way of tarring the ENTIRE left when he really just means dem voters and liberals... is the most excruciating part of his excursion to the right. he can't just focus his critique on how the dem party failed; he has to mow down the entire left as if it's not a confused enough term in the US already. instead of starting with "AOC and chuck schumer would not be in the same party" it's "the left are so into censorship they're also fascists" these are just horrid angles to take when "engaging the right". bernie would never say anything close to that on fox news. cenk is just blustering and blundering... and on top of that, he's got a ginormous ego that precludes him from seeing his own mistakes. plus he's feeling threatened and cornered while his business is tanking... it's just a perfect storm of bad for cenk to do this right now. at best, it comes across as a pathetic last ditch effort to save his media "empire"; at worst it looks like he's pivoting to the right. i personally believe cenk is still firmly a lefty and would not sellout like dave rubin or tim poole; but i also think he's too arrogant to see how badly he's flopping at whatever he thinks he's trying to do.

There’s def lot of complexities and nuances to how we engage strategically. I’ll admit I’m a type of guy to ram straight in LOL I went from debating some college republicans to literally Ben Shapiro in the span of 2 weeks LOL but I think I did well. I think progressives HAVE to engage with the right, go into their spaces, and we can be polite! But more important to than that, we have to be REAL. We can’t do what cenk be doing where he praises the maga audience, holds back on Trump, while intensely criticizing dems. If i was on stage with charlie, it would have to end up a debate. Sounds like we need to really discuss the notion of how to interact with the "other side" when we all live in the same country. This is the debate. Some will vehemently say don't fall into their traps by going on their shows and then there are others who vehemently say that you have to fall into their traps to fight out of them and let the "other side" know the truth. I'm not saying Cenk is right or wrong, but the left has to decide how to interact with the right, not appease them, but interact with them to eliminate the very notion of this vicious idea that we are two peoples in this country instead of one country of the United States of America. I’m real good on TYT. They had me particularly throughout the pandemic. However, I removed my subscription several months back and have had to enable ‘do not recommend’ option on KZbin. Cenk is so full of beans, I can’t even listen to him anymore. Ana is done. I still have loyalty to several content creators on TYT, but will be done end of year…just sayin’🤗
