On one hand, this is incredible for mapmaking and possibly general gameplay! You have way more options when making maps (custom food, tools, etc). I’d even bet this is a sign of things to come, like increasing stack size by default so inventory management is a little easier. On the other hand, now all those peenixsc videos of Steve eating anything he wants will become reality

I THINK the max stack size at 99 is there so that they didn't have to think about UI changes: adding a third digit would completely obstruct the bottom of the item sprite, which might not be ideal ; and I'm not sure the current font and size allow for a full 3rd digit (counting pixels, it seems a digit is 5px wide with a 1px gap between them ; 2 digits are 11px, 3 digits get us to 17 overlaid on a 16*16 grid for the item sprite). If it does not, resizing will need a completely new font, because 1 pixel less makes it an even number in width so some symmetries won't work the same, unless they decide to desync the two grid layers (item sprite and font), which would be ugly

(tldr at bottom) Are you perhaps a spreader of, ahem, misinformation? Because not only is this false with one google search, but eating dirt can cause lead poisoning and/or anaemia. After playing with modding recently which I don't usually do, it seems like the most straight forward and obvious solution. maybe back in the day with less block types like with and shortly after beta it worked fine as a balancer for survival. but this is 2024, there have been many updates since then.
