I interpret the message as not just anti-corporate. It's really an indictment of our whole society and way of life. We all had a big climb with industrialization and modernization of the world, and now we're having our big fall with climate catastrophe and environmental collapse. The consequences of our rapid expansion are coming around to get us. When he says "not afraid that it will kill us, we are afraid that it won't" I think he means that we'd rather just die to climate collapse rather than live on in the hellish world that will be left behind. Chilling to think about. Excellent song, love the video too!

Thought I'd share a personal story about this song, which has played an oddly important part in my life. After uni I bounced around a few different jobs until I ended up in advertising for 8 years (bills, right). Being a lefty who cares about the environment amongst other things, I've been conflicted about this, squashing it down like many of us do. When this song dropped I could not escape the lyrics. Haunting, depressing, apocalyptic. And scathing toward the people who knowingly contribute to fucking up our future. "I see us dying in the crystal ball"... "ice flows quicken" ... "we can burn it together"... Anyway, the feeling of my favourite band calling me out gave me the kick up my arse I needed to make the change, and I'm now on a career path which has a net positive contribution to society - thanks EE. PS most underrated band of all time

The timing of this song is perfect. I heard it was supposed to be the lead single of this album, but got postponed because of lockdown. It's so much more prescient now. Wildfires across the world, a pandemic running out of control, and a government who very clearly doesn't give a damn as long as they make money. This song is 2020. Another stellar album, so timely.
