Apparently when Jamie Lee's agent pitched this movie offer to her, they were just like, "You would get to do fight scenes with Michelle Yeoh, but you're also in a romantic relationship with Michelle Yeoh." And Jamie was like, "FUCK YES. I've heard enough. I don't even need to read it." lol

Seen an interview with Michelle Yeoh where they were talking about her most iconic roles, like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Crazy Rich Asians. She broke down into tears when she started talking about Everything Everywhere All At Once because she felt she finally got to show the type of acting she had always wanted to do, not just action star. It was a moving interview. Can't remember the interview, but it was one of those ones like from GQ or something like that.

hey Nikki and Steven, a little trivia: the googly eyes (white with black center) are the opposite of the bagel (black with white center). It's Waymond's positive outlook in life VS Joy's depressive nihilism.
@nuhuh9893
@nuhuh9893 2 жыл бұрын
I never noticed that, it's like the yin and yang symbol, and I thought there was a kind of Buddhist tone to the movie. It's like with the sausage fingers they used their feet instead and were still able to play beautiful music on the piano and were positive because negativity leads towards the black hole of depression and apathy. The rock scene was beautiful, they were literally at rock bottom isolated within themselves, Joy didn't want Evelyn to come closer and then at the end there is a brief scene of the rocks and planets colliding. This movie is so deep and rich with symbolism, it's just a masterpiece, one of a kind.

Y’all are too young to remember but in the 1970’s, we had Pet Rocks! They were rocks with Googlie eyes. There were two in a box and you named them, took them everywhere you went and treated them like actual pets. They were so cute! Someone was a frickin’ genius to think of putting eyes on rocks and use the gullibility of everyone to buy those things. I mean everyone in high school had to have them and give them as presents for Christmas’, birthdays. Whenever!

I felt like she wanted a mum to understand her, and die with her. Yet when beta waymond persuaded Evelyn from her sociapath mindset to embracing appreciation and love. Evelyn didn’t want to die. So jobu wants everyone to die no matter if her mum wants to do a suicidal pact or not. The whole family preventing Joy from dying was impactful. And Showing the daughter running in the laundromat emphasis that she’s just her daughter. As a villian u want to let her go. Deep down she’s still her daughter. She needs to know what she’s doing is hurting her mum, her family.

This was certainly the best movie I've seen in many years. The acting, the story, the cinematography, and visuals were all just perfect. Michelle Yeoh put in the performance of her career, as did Ke Huy Quan who hasn't acted since the 80's in The Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The daughter, played by Stephanie Hsu, was fantastic, and of course Jamie Lee Curtis killed it as the IRS agent. There were no weak spots in my opinion. It really makes the Dr Strange MoM look bad in comparison to how the multiverse was portrayed. Plus this movie cost about 10% of what that one cost ($25 million compared to $200 million) it's a shame this one won't make a billion dollars.

I was lucky to catch this in theaters. It was amazing. We were all laughing, bawling and sniffling. Waymonds part absolutely broke me. When she can’t understand how he helped and his voice breaks when he says, “idk. I just talked to her.” 🥺🥺 Then we see all the little moments of his kindness and silliness that makes her happy. That’s what they were both missing. Her and Joy. Remember when Joy says that’s why she was looking for her mom? To see if she could see something that she missed. They weren’t seeing Waymonds kindness. Also, the bagel represents Joys despair and depression. At the end, it’s super important that it’s Joy who reaches out for her moms hand. She wants help. Then Joys speech about letting her go? Omg the actress is so good. Then their embrace being shown with planets colliding? Like it’s saying that’s just as powerful? So beautiful. I’m crying all over again. Lol 🥹🥹🥹😭😭😭 PS: it was one of the best movie experiences of my life. We wept, laughed, bawled. After movie, there were about 7-8 of us. All strangers. Recapping our fav moments. What it meant. I’ve never had that happen. Ever.

You know, I've finally realized after rewatching this several times, the Alpha Joy, becoming Jobu means that in that universe that Joy was the "worst Joy", the one that failed at everything. Because Alpha Weymond said that in order for the mind to be able to handle all those and access all possibilities they had to be from the universe where every choice was the "wrong" choice. And then Joy at the end tells her mom, "Why wouldn't you choose to be in a place where your daughter is better than this", "this" being "me". So Jobu's Joy was a Joy that failed at everything, in a universe where her mother was the ultimate genius, and she went looking for the one universe where her mom failed at everything just like her. So she was looking for someone who's an ultimate failure like her to tell her there's an upside, a reason to go on, that she couldn't see. So no matter where you are in the multiverse, where you are in existence, by becoming everything everywhere all at once, no matter how high you are, you get the feeling of your worst low, at all times and your worst low gets to see first hand at all times all that you'll never have. So nothing you've ever done matters, and nothing you ever did mattered.

Then we also see that his life would've turned out great too in that alternate universe (he looked like a CEO or something). It's a fresh take on a familiar theme, and the use of absurd humor is perfect to tell the story of life: ups, downs, crazy times, quiet times etc. Michelle Yeoh said the hot dog fingers love story is her fave as she saw it as everyone, no matter if they have hot dog fingers, deserves to be happy and loved. I knew Nikki would lose it at the car park scene as it's that point you realize what the central theme is.

I love how this movie pumps everything out of its bounds and then returns to the singular experience. So beautiful. Neither right nor wrong, not all and not a single thing. Imperfect perfection. Just living. Just like lived experience. So wide yet so small, all of the universe can be compressed into just what we are now.

I love that she caught that the urn was screaming! Did you happen to notice that when Alpha Waymond was waiting for Jobu Topaki to finish him off, he was holding onto the urn as well. Maybe he wanted to hold her one last time and die with his wife in his arms.

This and Encanto are hands down my favorite films of 2022. They’re soo good. I was crying and laughing at the same time. Btw. Nikki randomly saying “malignant” when Jobu parted her hair…I cackled🤣

i've seen this movie 6 times now since it came out, and every single time it's turned me into a sobbing wreck from the start of Waymond's "We need to be kind" monologue right to the end of the "I will always want to be here with you" scene. there's something deeper about this movie that I relate to on a level more complicated than I know, and I love it.

When Alpha Waymond offers Evelyn a choice, it creates a new branching universe. Telling her she could go left to her appointment or right into the janitor's closet created a universe where she did that, and that's where she jumped when she switched her shoes. Telling her she could come with him or lie there created another universe where she was killed by Jobu.

I think there is so much unsaid from Joy. She felt like she had to give up on life and a major factor was feeling like her mother wasn't accepting her. I think there is a level of drawing attention to generational trauma (Evelyn felt rejected by her own father) and starting to heal that

I was waiting for your reaction, guys. Amongst the different themes of the movie it is the subject of family that coordinates everything. And because of that I was anxious to watch your thoughts and feelings develop. Because you both bring this family atmosphere to this platform in an amazing way. I love this channel. Thank you Nikki and Steven!

Normally when a movie tries to mix humorous and emotional moments within the same minute it just fails, but somehow the Daniels (Directors) have absolutely nailed it here. And with Swiss army man too. 😲 OMG you guys need to react to Swiss Army Man!!! Seriously. Yes I need to see Steven's face at the farty jet ski moments etc.. Yup Same directors - Swiss Army Man - Starring Harry Potter

deserved EVERY Oscar it won! It should have won costumes, too. The Black Panter sequel won that- but the first Black Panther won costumes- and the sequel was really more of the same- this was so fresh/new!

The hotdog finger universe is absurd and ridiculous and almost takes you out of the touching moments at the end, but it’s the universe that speaks the most to the movie’s core message. It’s there because an infinite multiverse will not always have things that we like, or are comfortable with. Things we can’t take seriously. Except… you have to fight to find joy and love and heart in the most cruel and strange of places, and that’s why it plays such a role in the end. Even in a stupid, stupid universe… there are still things to love. You have to find it, or else carve it out for yourself. Right?

I KNEW this movie was gonna destroy Nikki! Honestly though, this has quickly become my favorite movie, perhaps of all time. I saw it twice in theaters and cried for about an hour afterwards each time. It's so profound, so fun, so silly, so moving, and so well shot and put together that I think it's an instant classic. Glad you all got the chance to see it!

I’m so happy I got to see this in IMAX on a huge screen with a big crowd and the audience reactions were amazing. They did shoot most of the movie in an old office building in Simi Valley, CA and in addition to the amazing work by Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis, having Ke Huy Quan - Short Round in “Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom” and Data in “The Goonies” - come back to acting after over 20 years and KILLING IT was fantastic. Great reaction to a great film.

If you love this movie, I'd highly highly recommend a movie called "Synecdoche, New York". It deals with a lot of similar themes and ideas, and is also a masterpiece of abstract absurdism and existential truths. It's also what I consider Phillip Seymour Hoffman's greatest performance. I don't think it'd ever win any polls unfortunately, as it's not that well known and popular, but it would mean the world to me if you reacted to it. I guarantee it's like nothing you've seen before!

"Synecdoche" is like the dark mirror of this movie - where both movies conclude that all meaning comes from some sort of chosen, willful illusion, "Synechdoche" says that we fundamentally live and make that choice alone, while "Everything" says that we are NEVER alone.

This movie was sold to me like this: Take a bowl, take a bunch of grapes and paint them orange and put them in the bowl. Dress this with some chocolate sauce. Then you grill a steak and sprinkle it with gravel. Add some pingpongballs covered in jello and put it in the microwave it for 3 days. Let it rest for 10 minutes and shave some parmesan over the mix, and let it sit outside in the sun for a couple of hours. And when it's done it'll be one of the best things you've ever eaten.
