I also love that there's so many approaches to encounters other than bashing or shooting things in DL2. I can finally go full ninja and just assassinate with parkour and knives. Or just dropkick everything with the now multiple ways to dropkick. Fighting humans in DL1 was awful unless you had a gun or bow. But in DL2, it's great that you can work with the environment and resources so much to keep thinking on your feet.

I'll keep this short: Dying Light is not perfect, but it entertained my monkey brain. The sometimes horrific glitches were, for once, a welcome addition as I played. My friends and I laughed like idiots whenever a zombie we killed would scoot across the floor, glitch into a wall, or sometimes just phase through walls or doors. It was a fun but flawed experience I consider myself lucky to have stumbled upon.

@@moneygrabber6720 that’s one of my main complaints with the game,the night time is very lack lustre and the only thing that you have to be worried about is the timer going down because chases are jokes and there’s barely any zombies on the rooftops

Dying Light's best when you've got a night time airdrop and are running full tilt away from three volatiles. As the game progresses, the volatiles stop being scary, the airdrops cease, and you turn into Spiderman when you get the grapple.

An excellent example of how games have to be "given wins" differently than books, Tv, or movies as while the story of those is what draws us to them, with games it is the gameplay that is the make-or-break part and a great primary gameplay loop can hold up a mediocre story. But it's a bit more difficult to explain a win of gameplay because it always comes down to "look at how it feels!" rather than the more concise critiques that a story can be given.

The one thing I remember was I got the game when I was 13 and I had to stop playing at the first night mission because I was too scared. I eventually beat it but I found it to be fun :)

Still the second best open world zombie franchise. This game isn't a patch on Days Gone. The one good thing is the Volitiles and other special zombies. That and the drop kicks! But Days Gone had a much better story and with the hordes that you could randomly come across providing a challenge. Especially how they make you deal with some of them

I really enjoyed the gameplay of Dying Light. They made it just the right level of terrifying, tricky, and unique. The gameplay (crafting and skill tree especially) were great. Unfortunately 2 isn't living up to that for me so far.

I feel like on the topic of the story I cannot definitively give this game a win for it. It's... passable, excluding the villain (which I'll talk about in a second), but it's nothing to write home about. Has some nice moments like you said and I like Crane but honestly it feels... like it needs more meat on the bones. Like there are alot of ideas here like a young person in charge that are cool but like... they don't go anywhere and it's just like "oh okay I guess that's not happening". I just wish this game did more, y'know? I find it funny the story is the weakest aspect considering Techland split from Deep Silver for Warner Bros when they had disagreements on how to make the next Dead Island game with story being one of the main sticking points (BTW real quick Deep Silver where tf did Dead Island 2 go wyd). They wanted to make it have a more serious tone and I can see what they were doing... but again it's just not all there. The same thing happened with the sequel: Amazing gameplay, but a story that's a bit half-baked in areas (though I guess when your lead writer gets fired halfway through development that is bound to happen). Also I just cannot get behind Rais. It feels like they're just trying so hard to be Vaas and I just cannot like it. I mean Vaas is cool, I like him, but I'm starting to get a bit tired of these maniacal, crazy villains. A little pessimist in me thinks it's just a way for writers to have a cheap and easy way to advance the plot and have an easy main villain because he's evil and he's all about power and strength and we don't have to explain things because he's coo coo crazy. I mean you CAN do it right (again, see Vaas), but I wish we could have a more interesting villain. What if there was a bandit leader in a game that was... well, ACTUALLY CHARISMATIC. Like a guy who is evil but is so damn charming you can't help but want to be around him (Like Handsome Jack). Maybe someone with a philosophy that contradicts our main protagonists, something interesting to bite into, y'know? Anyways apart from that the game's solid and I enjoy it.

Honestly, my only two gripes about this game are... 1. Crane is an idiot a lot of the time and we have no control in stopping his own dumbassery until The Following 2. In the daytime, omniscient Virals will show up every 5 minutes to hunt you down, knowing exactly where you are, even if you're trying to be subtle. Only camouflage gets them to go from a regular hazard to a huge annoyance. And even then, while you have camo on, they STILL make their way to your face, stopping short of smacking you to just stare at you until your camo wears off Otherwise, apart from those, Dying Light is an incredibly fun game. Dying Light 2, though, I'd have to say that aside from the ass keybinds you're forced to work with on PC, I'm enjoying a hell of a lot more. You can tell how much got refined. And it has an actual working stealth system! I love me some stealth. So, I'd say Techland went from making an amazing game to a nigh-perfect one.

Dying light's story sucks, the gameplay was a little better than good but not enough to be great, Dying light 2's story was good if you really payed attention to it and the world, it's gameplay is great but not perfect and the game world is absolutely beautiful if not somewhat repetitive in some places. Not to mention Jonah Scott did an amazing job voicing Aiden and definitely was a major step up from Roger Craig Smith playing crane. Dying Light 2 was so much better other than being a bit buggy and lacking some features that it should have. Not to mention the multiple endings thing kinda sucks because they are all similar. In the middle of the story your choices matter a lot but the ending doesn't as much so that was a major let down for me after the great game and the great last story mission. Edit Btw the following dlc has a much better story and it adds an upgradable buggy that you can drive if but I'd say the open world gameplay suffers due to how open it is.

I personally loved Dying light. The story is completely forgettable. But the gameplay and world are things I loved very much. Additionally, with its DLCs it brought up more gameplay with cars. And weird community maps too that I did not really get (I played on console so I don't even know how to create maps)

The DLC needs an episode. It advances the story which imo is much improved and the gameplay is expanded. Also DL’s awesomeness comes more from side missions which allow for more gameplay which give it character.

To answer your question at the end, I'm right there with you. I played this game for the first time a month or so ago, with some friends, and the story was sooooo weak, and I truly understand that isn't the point of the game, but still. The gameplay was solid fun up to a certain point but very quickly got stale by the end. I didn't even have all of my abilities before I was already wanting it to be over, but still had the obligation to finish because my friends wanted a fourth person. In retrospect, I disliked Dying Light more than I enjoyed it in the grand scheme of things, and it sucks because it makes it hard for me to even think about picking up the second one. I know it's very well loved by a lot of people, but I personally just don't get it.
