Just saw Kirkland at the Family Den lounge and he told me this interview was coming. Much needed and can’t wait

Just spoke with Kirk on a phone call today at the office, what a gentleman and true pleasure. Thank you, Antoine for presenting us. The sincerity in his voice says it all. Folks get ready, definitely more to come from this pioneer, Kirk Townsend.

In 79 I was going to Quigley South Seminary to play ball on a scholarship and study for the priesthood, until one day I was invited to a Mendel Basketball game followed by a Sock Hop. Well, in 1983 I graduated from Mendel and I never became a priest.😂😂😂😂😂 A Mendel Bi Level had more of an influence then god's calling on my life

Another great interview. I've never heard of this person but loved his story. It's good to know he was at the forefront and has a lot of first hand knowledge. I loved hearing about the money he helped raise to keep his school open. Kudos 👏🏾

Such a great episode and long overdue for Kirk to get his flowers from the house music community. So many jewels dropped and I learned so much. The black Trax label versus red label was mind blowing because my copies of Move Your Body were on the black Trax label

And subsequently years later my mail-ordered copy of "Move Your Body" was on the red label

I partied at Mendel in the ln 79 early 80's every Saturday night. I was so young that I would get tagged for curfew!! 🤣 Well get there early. To clump the bleachers to dance at the top on the wall ledge!!

@15:33 - STOP...WAIT...WOWWW! Short story of my (non) involvement with Mendel: I discovered the 'hot mix' in December of 1984 during my 8th grade year. We lived on 850 W 111th St, yeah, on the same street as Mendel (I just had no clue about the place). My portal of entry into House Music was WBMX, and the first deejay I heard that got me hooked - and was a FAVORITE - was Mickey "Mixin'" Oliver!
