Hi Karissa!!! The Chinese donut is a variation on youtiao called niulisu or ngau lei sou (Cantonese) which translates into cow tongue pastry! Typically sweeter and more dense than youtiao!! I remember as a kid we could get a ngau lei sou and a youtiao for 50 cents each in our Chinatown :))

If you want a good egg custard tart, in Portugal there’s something called Pastel de Nata and it’s the original. They are super good and if you sprinkle some cinnamon on top it will become heavenly.

She’s calling it an egg tart because that’s what Chinese call it since Southern Chinese including Hong Kong adapted it from the Portuguese, especially in Macao since it was their colony until 1999.
