Hello from Canada. I watched your post until the end. Like you, I’ve been feeling a lot of despair over the state of the world. I think your PSAs are very important to put out there; it’s courageous of you to divulge your views as there are a lot of toxic trolls out there, and I applaud you.

I don’t give a flying hoot how long folks keep their Christmas decor up! I still have my tree up, I frankly love the tree and the soft lights are a nice warm winter light! Don’t get hung up in trying to do what everyone else is doing. Ok sorry on the rant. I’ve loved the knits you showed and must say……, I wear your Kingston cardigan ALL THE TIME! I knit mine quite a bit longer than yours but it’s the throw on jacket I just love! I need to make another one badly! Glad all the kids are well now! Let’s look forward to a better 2025! Happy New Year, Taylor. So nice to see Star Baby soliciting love from you! About sock fit: I've found that heel construction is the most important factor in sock fit. Fleegle heels don't work for my foot; the sock slides down my heel as I wear it. Afterthought heels bind around my instep. The heel that works best for me is the Heel Flap and Gusset, with a slightly extended heel flap to accommodate my high instep. So whenever I'm knitting socks for myself, that's the one I use, no matter what's recommended in the pattern. You can always pick out and reknit afterthought heels instead of darning them. It's a little fiddly but worth it, especially if there are yarn-matching issues.

I’ve been wanting to knit the Better Waverly cardi since it made its debut. Love everything about it… v-neck, roomy at upper arms (for wearing over another sweater/something), especially the dolman-ish sleeve. I’ve got some green heather-y Cascade 220 in stash. BT yarn look so scrumptious! Love the mustard-y yellow as well. Thanks for a recap, and helping me decide next sweater project! Hugs to all the fur babies!

Glad Star Baby and the feral cat are on the mend, they're so lucky to have you to look out for them. 😊Cool seeing all the strays there for their dinner in the intro. I love when you get hooked on a series, I watched the first couple of seasons of GG but must go watch the rest. I seem to be on true crime at the moment but so need something lighter! I have the same sock fit issues, either they seem to get too loose or the blimin cuff is so tight I can barely get them on. Maybe if I made more than one pair a year I would solve the issue 😂

So knitting socks was my New Year's resolution for 2024 and I became absolutely sock obsessed, it got me through my final semester of college and the transition moving home. All this to say, I've noticed that wedge toes have the tendency to slip forward like that until you wear them in. I had a pair that I hated because of the wedge toe, until I actually forced myself to push past the sensory nightmare and wear them around the house for a few days. They now curve comfortably around my toes instead of still being pointy and horrible. My current fav vanilla sock recipe is toe up with spiral toes and afterthought heels. I knit away on my tube on my 9" circs until I run out of yarn and then I get to do a bit surgery. I volunteer at the my local art museum and knit socks while I chit chat with visitors about art history. Knitting has been a lifeline while grappling with the horrors of our world. And maybe I'll start watching Gossip Girl again, I watched the first season on Netflix in early high school ish and then it got a little too much for my tender young eyes. But I think I would love it now. Happy New Year!

I get the exhaustion, with world horrors, genocides, healthcare being eroded, and honestly the biggest most tiresome thing is knowing that so many people dont care. There isn't even any room for us to deal with personal sorrows, there is just that much going on. In my family we have always taken down the Christmas decorations on Jan 6th as that is the end of "traditional" Christmas celebrations, Christmas holidays are over etc. And my Mum has a superstition about it and passed it on to me 😕. But I do keep all my lights up, just add more when I want to every year and the house is always lit up with twinkling jewels! So happy to hear that Starbaby is back to herself. Tooth issues for cats is awful and somehow takes a while to get diagnosed. Thank you for a worthwhile video Taylor, your content is always appreciated.

The decorations come down much faster than they went up. I'm really lazy and I was able to get my tree and random chatzkes down pretty quickly. But the outdoor lights are still up and coming on nightly because it's too rainy to deal with them. But my multi-cultural neighborhood still have their lights up and on too. It's dark and the lights are cheery. Don't sweat it until you're ready. I like your favorite cardigan and it looks great on you. I really was drawn ro that shawl too but did not make it because I didn't want to buy yarn. I appreciate your honest assessment which eases my FOMO!

I am happy for your sweet kitty that she’s feeling better🥰. Your shawl beautiful even with the mix of cool tones and warm tones. If you’re having difficulty styling it with your wardrobe, it would still make a lovely cosy shawl for watching movies or curling up on the couch. Quick question about the wanderer slippers, do the soles wear well with 100% wool and no nylon content (I’m about to cast a pair on with leftover Alafloss Lopi). I have to mention, I hope you never take out the last two clips of your intro, I always wait for them and get a laugh every time 😆! As for the healthcare in your country, it is so sad that it is big business. The health and well-being of a country should never be unaffordable. Thank you for another great video, wishing you peace and joy in the new year.

For a *perfect* foot length, my go to is Jo Torr's Vanilla Sock with Choice of Heel and Gusset. It's a toe-up design with a simple calculation in the pattern that adjusts to your specific gauge which you take after knitting the toe section before beginning the gusset and heel. I have now made about ten pairs using it as my base (I'll put other stitch patterns or whatever on top of the base recipe) and literally all of them fit, whether I made them for me or someone else, as long as I got a good measurement of the recipient's foot length.

You can cut off the toes and take out some rows, then; either knit new toes.(even if they were originally knit toe -up) or graft the toes back on.

At Last...someone else who agonizes over a sock which is 1/2 inch too long! Me Too! You may be one of those people who just does not need the extra room that a heel flap & gusset gives. Ive only tried an afterthought heel once, and it was way too tight across my arch, so now I do a short row heel following an EarthtonesGirl video. Also, I'll make my next ones top down so that I can undo from the toe and add or subtract length as needed. One more thing...this video has inspired me to get a better finished object foto of my Bookkeeper Cardigan for ravelry. I wore the heydo out of mine this past autumn and plan to knit another one soon...maybe after the Vellichor.(I am antdebbie on rav.) I'm very stalled out on my Vellichor because I can't believe I'm gonna like that boat neckline...🫤 But wait...today, Jan 5, is the 12th Day of Christmas and I still have the candles in my windows,a wreath on my door, and my mantle is still decorated! Maybe this week I'll take the rest down. Happy New Year!🎉

A good heel option is the Shadow Wrap (Earthtones) which is similar to the Fish Lips Kiss heel, but seems to give a little more across the top of the foot. Christmas - Boxing Day is for boxing Xmas! Otherwise, much dusting would be required. Summer Xmas here, so maybe less of an issue there.

Hi Taylor, Happy New Year. I love your cardigan and the Artus shawl. I wouldn't have known the color was different than the beginning of your shawl until you pointed it out; I'm seeing it on video. It might be different irl. I'm knitting Natsha's Tursa cardigan in the same pattern as the Artus shawl. I'm having issues getting her gauge-5 stitches per inch with fingering weight lambswool and mohair. I ordered a US8 set of tips. While waiting, I tried knitting it looser, but I didn't like the fabric. So, I could go up a size in the pattern rather than using a bigger needle, correct? Currently, I‘m using 4.5 mm needles for the color work. She calls for a 4 mm. My floats lay flat and stretch. Have you ever done that with a pattern? I'm small like you so I typically I knit the smallest size in a pattern and often there is too much positive ease. I can't figure out how to change the pattern for the gauge I’m getting except to do a larger pattern size. Is that what you’d recommend? Thanks. Btw, I still have my exterior lights up so do a few of my neighbors. I like them.
@TaylorOwen
@TaylorOwen Ай бұрын
@@TrudySchwartzBurrill it’s hard to say… what gauge are you getting with the needles you like? It all depends on the amount of ease you enjoy most. If the smallest size is 42.75”, which would give me ~10” of ease (with a suggested ease of +6 to 12”…) and the second size is 47.5”, which would give me ~15” of ease, I would sooner knit the smallest size, even if my gauge was tighter and my finished garment was as much as 4” tighter than it should be. If I recall correctly, this pattern blocked out much bigger than it looked to begin with. Be sure to block your swatch. The jacket is a bit over sized in its styling. If you make it too big, you might not enjoy wearing. I would need more details to answer definitely. 💖
@TrudySchwartzBurrill
@TrudySchwartzBurrill Ай бұрын
@ prefer answer. I should be getting the right. I'm gonna try it but Im not sure I can get 50 rows. But if not your answer is what I was thinking. It should be smaller so giving me less positive ease, and that absolutely works for me. I'm getting 6 stitches an in. I'm supposed to get 5. Positive ease it set for 6 to 10 inches. I'd prefer flier to 6. So, I think using the 4 mm and I've got 4.5 mm. I'll try the US 8, but will likely prefer the 4.5mm thanks do much. I m thinking I’ll get the fabric I like best as it is. I tried knitting loosy and I can't do that. I l8e my needle to guide me. In the end as you say it should block out well. Thanks, Taylor.
