Your energy and passion won me over into wanting to keep neocaridina shrimp. I've been a freshwater aquarium keeper for over 10 years, from African cichlids and axolotls to dwarf frogs and bettas. I was never interested in shrimp until now. This is my go-to channel on everything I need to know about shrimp care. Keep up the great work!

This is a great video and I also have your book! My shrimp don’t seem to eat any commercial shrimp foods, and I got a few really well rated ones (haven’t tried gel foods or bloodworms yet). I drop the pellets in, the shrimp ignore it and eventually snails show up to eat it. They even ignored the fancy shrimp pop entirely. I see them eating biofilm and algae though and they are active and alive but it’s weird.

Thank you for this great video! The time stamps are really helpful. Can you feed your shrimp too much color enhancing food? And if so would red algae be as problematic as a commercially prepared color enhancing food?
@FishKeepingAnswersАй бұрын
Thank you for your feedback. Can you overfeed them color enhancing foods? I would say no. Assuming what ever you are feeding is a proper fish or shrimp food, I can’t see any problems. 👍🏻
@FeliciathefishtankladyАй бұрын
@@FishKeepingAnswers Thank you. I haven't been keeping shrimp long, but my shrimp do seem much brighter with the color enhancing foods. I do not notice a change in the water color with these foods. I kind of think the people who do notice a reddening of the water may be using foods with additives,etc.

I just put in almost 20 blue dream in my 6.6 gal tank, next morning, I can only find 1. I looked in the filter chamber, nothing and the intake slots are well protected by sponge. My tank is heavily planted but I've looked for an hour with a flashlight, no trace of them...and that's overnight! Any ideas? I have several Neons, 3 Serpae, 2 White Skirt Tetras and 2 Corys...how could they eat them?
@WhiteCloudAffinityАй бұрын
Personally the easiest plants are: java moss, frogbit, java fern, anubias, pearlweed, rotala and crypts(crypts & swords if you have a deep substrate system)
@Chelokoshka_Ай бұрын
Richard, I wanted to ask about proper сulling. At what age is it better to do it, can a young female gain good coloration with age, or is it already clear in adolescence?
@FishKeepingAnswersАй бұрын
Hi. Personally I cull at around the 2 to 3 month mark. At that point you can tell the really good colour shrimp from the average ones. With that said, cull for me means moving to a dedicated cull tank rather than kill, so I can always reintroduce a shrimp that suddenly colours up.

I care less about the grade of colors of my shrimp. I purchased mine so they can help process waste. I love my shrimp no matter what. And I'd even prefer them less red if they can be healthier and harder and stronger. What's the point of having something "beautiful" if they're weak?
