I started off with a free standing garage so I didn't need to invest into building a shop. Instead I got me a cnc machine as my first tool. Took me two years to get my head around it, but now I am making stuff. Love your shop. It's make do and not make shiny.

Clever physicist types tell me db are a logarythmic measurement and that a rise or fall off 3 db equates to a change in acoustic energy by a factor of 2 and in perceptual terms a rise or fall off 10 db "sounds like" twice as or half as loud so... A drop off 12db is a huge success and will make your workshop antics so much more acceptable to your weary neighbours 😂 I also do all my carpentry and much of my diy prep on the drive😊 great channel. Keep it up

Enjoy the videos and your approach. Being real about what you can do and building confidence and knowledge takes time. Every time your dog appeared on screen my dog Remus went nuts...lol. Keep the faith and look forward to your future projects.

Really enjoyable watch. The new workshop looks great. Nice & light, a decent amount of room &, most importantly, dry! I was fortunate enough to have a friend build a log cabin in my back garden about ten years ago, with electric & running water. During lockdown, I decided to convert it into a workshop & it's my favorite place to spend my spare time. As much as I enjoy building stuff, I think I enjoy improving my workshop more. I did toy with the idea of packing in my job & becoming a carpenter, furniture maker, handyman/builder full time but as well as not stacking up economically, I took the advice of some KZbinrs I follow & decided it was best to keep woodworking/making as a hobby & not lose the magic by making it into work. I've subscribed & look forward to seeing what you make & how the workshop evolves over time.

This is what I have been missing, you have made me very happy! Your explanation is excellent and love your style of presenting different aspects, the ups and downs of the project and what to look out for. Thank you 🙂

watched all the individual videos when they were released - sat in work watching this compilation on my third monitor. It was this video that made me take the plunge to build a smaller version of this as a lean to store for garden stuff - works great!

Nice job, couple of suggestions, the screws in the tin are typically affixed in the peaks not the valleys, you need more braces, not sure your drain will keep up with the volume of rain. Had great fun watching though.

do those sticky flashing rolls you use, really work well? no leaks down behind? i have to build an extension and would like the flashing to be easy!!
@northernworks4 ай бұрын
It’s been perfect so far. I went for wider roll and spent a lot of time making sure it was properly stuck and overlapped on the wall side, but so far so good!

Have you given any thought about closing in the back end of your workshop, And just having an entrance door.
@northernworksАй бұрын
I have thought about it - it’d certainly make things warmer and quieter!

@northernworks that's what I was thinking. That and a heater. My little workshop is only 12 x 6 ft. Put a heater in there makes a lot of difference. Love your channel 👍

I was lucky having a big Nissen hut but my biggest enemy is the damp ! The damp has ruined my big lathe , it blew the control panel , which a rather costly replacement .

Isn't moisture/humidity a massive issue with all your stuff essentially outside?

Not as much as you might think - I keep the majority of my tools, especially anything electrical, in cases in the drawers of my tool caddy. Chisels and blades I’m constantly sharpening, and I use camellia oil on steel which seems to keep things well protected. As for wood, I keep it off the ground as much as possible. So far, so so. Not perfect, but it’s good enough for my use.
