Really appreciate your thoughtful delivery and detail. Instead of cranking out a review on the day the media embargo is lifted, you’ve done your own reporting and reflection. The result is a lot of great info other reviewers simply do not address. Thank you for giving us a little dose of truly measured insight in an over-rushed world.

Thank you!! I appreciate the support. I don't like to rush things when not necessary because as you mentioned, items often get left out or incorrectly mentioned. I have seen a number of errors in other creators content around this vehicle either saying the features are there and they are not or just leaving out key differences in the Hybrid vs gas models such as back seat space.

I have a cadillac STS with very, very firm seats. Trying to get away from that, so the seat issue on this vehicle is a deal breaker for me. You are not the only one to point out the seat issues.

Totally understandable! It really is too bad because the rest of the vehicle is very good.

That could be a deal Breaker for me as well. Other reviewers have said the same thing...the seats seem too hard. That would be a "killer" for any extended trip. The lack of thigh support is another detractor. Having said that , too bad because the other ingredients are appealing. Truth be Told, As I look to a possible new vehicle to replace my 22 MDX Advance - lease expires in 1 month. I have the ability to Buy my MDX with 22.5K miles for $38,400 (including taxes) as prescribed in the lease with Acura Financial.

I was ready for the hybrid but after your review I think I'll go for the turbo. I put on about 10k a year. Looking at a 10-year purchase. Would I save that much in gas going turbo over hybrid?
@CarsMadeSimple
@CarsMadeSimple 24 күн бұрын
It would depend more on the driving you do. Out on the interstate the Hybrid will do worse than in the city or at speeds under 60 mph or so. The Turbo will sort of be the opposite with better mpg at higher speeds with less stop and go.

There isn’t a single vehicle that is perfect for most people unless you have the money to buy any vehicle you want. People will always find something to complain about instead of just being grateful that they are able to purchase this vehicle.

Like a new pair of shoes, there is a definite break-in period to the seats that you really have to own a CX-50 to know about. They're never going to be cushy, but six months makes a huge difference in the comfort level.

Totally. The good news is these vehicles are used for many hours prior to arriving to me. Some more than others, so often times I am getting a vehicle with everything broken in to some degree. This one had less miles than some I have gotten but I think the consensus is still that they are on a firmer side.

I was considering both the CX-50 hybrid Premium and the Rav4 XSE hybrid. The Toyota is about $4k more expensive than the Mazda, but has additional features that the Mazda is lacking...digital rear view mirror, 360 pano camera, large 12.3" digital gauge cluster, better seats and mpg. I don't like the information screen on the CX-50 hybrid. It's an elongated rectangle that looks squished down. So I spent the extra $4k and bought the Rav4 XSE hybrid.

I think the Mazda infotainment (or lack of) is really personal preference. I personally like the minimalist feel of it compared to a bigger touch screen right in the center of the vehicle. Would agree it's not for everyone, maybe not even the majority.

I thought the proximity sensors worked because of the proximity of the key. I didn't think the gloves affected that at all. One thing I HATED about the VW Tiguan was that the proximity sensor works ONLY for the front doors. Even if I had the key in my pocket, I couldn't open the BACK door unless I pulled the key out and pressed the "unlock" button. Really a terrible design in my opinion.
@CarsMadeSimple
@CarsMadeSimple 22 күн бұрын
The key is only part of the system. The vehicle knows the key is present but it also uses sensors on the door handles itself to detect whether to actually trigger the unlock or lock. Some vehicles has sensors on all four door handles but many are only on the front doors. It's also not a guarantee that gloves work with these touch type sensors.

I'm waiting for a CX-30 version hybrid along the lines of this CX-50 hybrid (w/Toyota hybrid power/drive-train). Both the CX-50 & CX-5 are too large a vehicle for my taste, & something about the boxy CX-50 looks clunky & off to me from certain angles.

My biggest complaint about this model (and last year's as well) is the black cladding around the wheel wells. It makes it look like a muscled up station wagon. This would look so much more high-end if that black was color matched to the body.

I wouldn’t like the Toyota engine(I got the 2023 and like it a lot with 17 inch wheels what gives it a smooth ride and make’s sense when you go off road .The seats in the select I got are fabric and faux leather so they are pretty comfortable).
@CarsMadeSimple

That's good to hear! Smaller wheels come standard on the lower trims of the hybrid.

This is one of the reasons I avoided the higher trims and went with the mid level (Canada) with 17" rims. The ride is smooth.

@michaelvella8511 They're on the firmer side for sure. However, they are quite form fitting and provide good back support. For everyday use, they are very adequate, are unlikely to lose their support quality and will be very durable . For the occasional longer road trip, some people may find them a bit uncomfortable (nothing that a good cushion can't fix). Experience them for yourself.
