everything i'm packing to move to japan | JET Program 2021

I've packed my life into two suitcases and a backpack and moved to another country in the middle of a pandemic.
When I lived abroad in Singapore as a student, I waaayy overpacked (I brought two huge bottles of Head & Shoulders as if shampoo and conditioner weren't available 😅). Thankfully that experience gave me insight on what NOT to do when moving to another global north country.
I actually managed to fit most of my original list of items into the medium suitcase! Which is why I brought so many snacks hehe 😋
I'll definitely need to get more clothes for work. I'm planning to wear my business suit for the first few weeks (pretty standard for professionalism in Japan), but after that the dress code will (hopefully) be more relaxed. My co-ALTs recommended that I get Crocs for my indoor school shoes!

Did you have any trouble bringing the 28L as a personal item? And do you remember the airline you flew? I can imagine an airline not allowing that 28L as a personal item because it's "too big."
