Iceland is marvellous! I ve been there twice many years ago. First time I saw horses in the wilderness. Always nice to hear you talk about books!

Watching the closing scenes of “Saltburn” made me think of “The Talented Mr. Ripley” as well. Back in the 1980s, Penguin books published a lot of Patricia Highsmith’s novels, and I bought every one of them I could find. She actually wrote a series of Ripley books, though she shows Tom becoming a significantly different character in the later novels. To the best of my recollection, he buys a French chateau and takes up the pose of a suave and polished country gentleman, supporting himself by dealing in stolen paintings and other works of art. He has a beautiful wife who knows nothing of how her husband makes his living. Tom tries to live a quiet and reclusive life, but when people are so inconsiderate as to put themselves in positions where he has no choice but to kill them, he doesn’t hesitate to act.

I'm very curious about The Talented Mr. Ripley! I hope I enjoy it and it hasn't become overhyped in my head.

Always nice to read from your own collection. Whenever I get anything from the library, I feel guilty for not reading the stupid amount of books on my shelves! I read the Library at Mount Char last month, which was a wild ride but am leaning towards enjoying it. And the Sea Of Tranquility by Emily St John Madel was at the top of my reads too 😊

I loved Sea of Tranquility! I really enjoy St John Mandel’s writing. I’ve heard The Library of Mount Char is an experience! I’ll have to get to it one of these days. It’s been lovely reading from my shelves. Past Alyssa had great taste in books 😂

I’m disappointed you didn’t love Beautyland. I have it out from the library, reading it with a Goodreads group next month and it sounded so interesting! Also a fan of Paradise Rot, I’ve never read anything even remotely like it.

Don’t write off Beautyland just yet. You might love it. I loved aspects of it and enjoyed myself while I was reading it. I just don’t know if it will be a standout read in any way. But i think you’ll have a lot to discuss so it would make a great group read!
