Everything Is BROKEN at Six Flags Darien Lake! | Coaster Buffoonery Episode 1

In the first episode of Coaster Buffoonery, I go to Six Flags Darien Lake where it felt like every ride was broken or breaking down every few cycles! It didn't help that it was Music Fest Weekend, and the park was almost the most crowded as I've ever seen it. Will I keep my cool this time? Or will I break down and rage?

You just have bad luck dude. I went back to the park again on Sunday the 17th and everything was open (except for Silver Bullet). The longest I had to wait for anything was maybe 15 mins for Tantrum. I saw some of the shortest waits all season for Viper and Mind Eraser.

I went yesterday, the park was packed. The coasters were barely running. Ride of steel,predator, and boomerang closed. Giant wheel and grizzly bear run removed no laser light shows. Waited 45 mins to get on the viper. Didn’t even bother with mind eraser from how long the one car was taking between rides. I thought six flags would help this park but it’s a mess, Even the water park had long lines and barely operational rides. Waited an hour for Riptube racers because they were only running three slides. Last time I went in 2017 it was way better. I lived through some of the best years of this park in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. It’s hard to see how far it’s fallen.

SFDL does have a lot of problems with operations, but they do try their best to get it working again immdeiately

Roller Thunder can be locked at the top so maintenance can do maintenance stuff

Was not sure where to add this...... I found out why the Giant wheel was removed at Darien Lake... Turns out the wheel was rusting bad, and the structural integrity of the wheel was compromised. Still surprised they did not replace it with a new Dutch, AKA Vecoma, wheel.

Haven't been to Darien Lake in YEARS. My one and only FAVE ride was the Ranger and I hear it's gone???? That was the best ride ever!!!

On the flip side- At SFGA I often forget to leave my cheaters in the car. So I just stash 'em in a bush somewhere. And if I really feel like I need to read a menu or something, I go fish 'em out and re-stash 'em after I am done. I left one pair in a bush for over a month and they were there when I came back!

Another thing I forgot to ask. How is the park overall feeling when you go? There used to be something about the ferris wheel in the distance and the ride of steel together that really just gave you a bit of nostalgic anticipation. Not having the giant wheel seems like it would make the park feel sort of like it has lost its soul sort of thing. Like part of its identity is just not there anymore. Is this the case?

The ride intentionally does that for maintenance work on the track. It can be stopped at pretty much any position if need be and slowly rotated in maintenance modes to do track checks and make sure the motors and other components are all in proper working order. It's scary to see though as an onlooker and not knowing what you're seeing you know? I always thought it would be cool if parks had a little display Infront of rides that explained some of the things you may see maintenance wise so people can first off learn more and second off not be terrified out of riding it.

That whole bag thing is disgusting. If you're not allowing people to take it up to the station you need to give free time sensitive lockers like universal has. That's just not right for a family based park.

Darian Lake is a HELL HOLE DUMP! Ill never go there again! I went last year in early September and it was horrid! All the rides over in the area of Serial Thriller were closed. Ride of Steel was by far and by far that, THE ABSOLUTE WORST coaster Ive ever ridden! I think it made my already not so great mobility worse! I got wings from Anchor Bar and those were terrible! All the rides sucked and so did the operations of them! That was my 3rd and final visit. I had been there years ago and didnt remember it being that horrible! That place needs to be torn down and rebuilt, preferably by Cedar Fair!
