Don't get me wrong, I'm hyped for the desktop release of SteamOS, but we don't need it before Win10 dies. There are so many fantastic Linux distros out there, just pick one that catches your eye and it will almost certainly work fine. Good starting points are Linux Mint, Zorin OS, Pop OS, Ubuntu (or Kubuntu, if you want a Windows-like GUI). If you're more technically-inclined, you could try Fedora, Bazzite (based on Fedora) or Arch derivatives like Manjaro or Garuda (which is very gamer-oriented). Literally no reason for them to rush on the desktop version. Yes, it'll be great to have it as an option, but most Linux distros work just fine for gamers today. If you absolutely need a SteamOS-like experience, there's Bazzite, but the main appeal of SteamOS at this point is that it's designed to make handheld gaming a breeze. It's not specifically made to be a desktop OS.

8:00 I initially thought the Z2X was effectively the Z1X. Thinking it was based on the 8845HS which is basically the same as the Z1X's 7840HS They both use the same process node, they both use the same CPU cores, they both use the same GPU cores they both top out at roughly the same RAM speed, they're effectively the same CPU at the same wattage, the only significant difference is the NPU Now what i was not expecting was the Z2X to be based on the HX370 which has 4 more CUs The problem is that without added memory bandwidth, you're likely better off with the 12CUs of the Z1X as they're probably stalling out less. Now, if handhelds gave us the ability to control the CPU, and GPU clocks independantly, that changes things, 16 CUs at 2.2Ghz might both be faster, and more efficient than 12CUs at 2.7Ghz 4CUs just isn really enough and rather have Strix Halo manually clocked to 2.4Ghz on the CPU and 1.8Ghz on the GPU Also, dont get me started on the crappy driver support for the Z family of processors, just get the Ryzen 7/9 processors, you'll be far more happy than being stuck 9 versions behind on video drivers and missing out on new features. Speaking from experience as someone who has both a Z1X and a 7840HS you're better off in efficiency with those new drivers over a tuned chip on very old drivers.

The problem is that the steam deck and anything that has steam OS on it would have to get a significant market share on the gaming community, which is not happening in the near future because of Nvidia. Unless Nvidia embraces Lnux it’ll take a while for steam OS to takeoff for all devices and for developers to take off their anti-cheat for it. Huge companies aren't just willingly to gamble their product with SteamOS. Valve is entering Microsoft's territory and they should be serious about it.

@n_core seems like a losing strategy imo when you have to pay someone to do something that they then pay your competitor to do. I think the cost difference would be better explained by a lack of os license fee and not having to pay for the development of custom software and firmware. Valve as a company wouldn't pay developers to keep them from going meta/epic exclusive so I just can't see them doing something like this but maybe I'm wrong.

Is it possible that Valve is going to lean on 3rd party for hardware and focus on Steam OS? Maybe we wont get a Steam Deck 2....

So you saying my lcd is trash so maybe I should get the new legion go with steam deck. Because if I upgrade it won’t be for the oled version. Ijs

Bigger number better😂 I have been tempted to upgrade my steam deck to the oled. Buut maybe I'll wait for the steam deck 2. Though only 500 bucks for the 500gig oled is tempting....

8:34 so you are saying that u have like a roof top tent and stuff like that for hanging out in the woods while play withe the deck? If that is the case we are brothers 😂

Go Steam Deck unless an accurate D-pad is needed for fighting games and precision platformers. Then consider alternatives like the Go S. 🍻

Haha it just occurred to me Valve is beating Xbox at its own game. They are trying to say that everything is an Xbox, but all they mean is cloud gaming. Valve literally means any device that can run Steam OS is a Steam Deck.

Used to ahve a steam deck had issues co stantky off the riff. And lets be honest it reminded me of a sega the big bulky ones from the 90s battery ran down just as quick. I get its hard to work w major computer parts but i think making em more compact and easier to carry and store and better battery and os system then ill get one but untill then ill pass

idk, seems like copium how he compares steam deck to other devices. 1. steam deck is good because all i need is 30 fps@720p 2. others are bad because they have bad battery life at 60 fps@ 1080p. i mean, i love the steam deck but these steam deck KZbinrs need to stop.

Agreed. I had a steam deck, switched to the legion go. The performance difference was worth the terrible battery life. Getting 60fps is much easier on the z1 extreme.
@fluttersyy9 күн бұрын
they are not that much powerful if deck is 30fps/800p, then its likely to have 30/1080 on z1e with twice less battery life rather than 60/1080 (on native res and stuff) thats why people are playing 800p on LeGo with better performance than steam deck, otherwise it seems not that powerful and they cant say steam deck is obsolete now and LeGo is supreme better

10% of 30 fps is 3 FPS. So overall 33 FPS... Yeah.. pass :D They need at least 60-70% uptake in performance at 15-20W vs Steam Deck to really be worth-while. I have a feeling Valve is on the same mindset. Nvidia with ML seems to be going the right path, but as far as handhelds go no matter how good the efficiency is, it still is a lot higher than 15-20W. But maybe... who knows... If Valve is collaborating with Nvidia I am sure they can create a great handheld chip with some DLSS/ML-AI solutions at low power and 60 FPS :)
