It took long enough for me to realise that Kerfuffle has a prosthetic leg. Sure she is cute and all, but maintaining this level of positivity despite physical disabilities makes me admire her a lot. I really like this special for not having any forced villian, but just a slow slice if life story. It also talks a little bit more about how color of pony corresponds to its emotions, as we already seen with Pinkie or in the Return of Harmony. And all the new ponies are extremly cute :)

Hopeless magic is something that exists since season 2, when twilight loses hope that her friends would come back and when her friends loose there elements they turn gray in season 2 premiere, when cadence is inprisond in the caves she looks a little dissaturated in season 2 finale, the ponies of the crystal empire in season 3 premiere, when the mane six cant follow their talantes in season 3 finale, when the mane 6 loose their magic in season 4 finale, the ponies and the town on season 5 premiere, its not just a cool gag and visual clue for the little ones but also a kind of magic that has been really present in the show just not named.

The Hopeless magic bit actually makes sense. Think about it. It happened before to Pinky Pie twice. Once in Party of One, and again in the episode with the bagpipes. Hoving that in the context; it makes it possible for it to happen on a grand scale like Hope Hollow.

You know, one comment in another video actually explains why they only now discovered hopeless magic. You remeber discord when he took away their main element. It was hope in defeating discord that discord took away which turned them gray like we see them in the movie. When pinkie pie was hopeless and thought her friends left her she turned a gray coloring. So hopeless magic has been present, just not actually explained explicitly.
