With speaking to family and some online research, he had a 2008 GT500 in Vapor Silver with Ebony stripes (this color). He insisted on getting the stripe deleted and so did this one! The more I look into it, the more likely it is that this is his car! They only made 930 of these, including all the ones with the stripes on top! I wish there was a way to confirm tho lol. Hey Hoovie, FYI that is definitely not a factory suspension. The blue parts (lowering springs and sway bars) are Ford Performance aftermarket parts. The panhard bar appears to be Steeda and is adjustable to make up for axle moving slightly as a result of the lowering. The shocks/struts are red and that has me thinking they might be Pedders units. All in all, not a bad setup. Change out those bushings and the motor mounts and consider some rear control arm relocation brackets and maybe even new rear lower control arms and you will have a good handling setup that launches well with all that power…pretty good for that car for not much money.
@newfie-dean58036 ай бұрын
The blue springs are probably Roush or Ford Performance. I’d put Bilstein shocks and struts on it. Those are great and were used on the 03-04 Cobra Terminators from the factory.

Despite the axle, it was a great car, easy to work on with a big aftermarket. I slapped in a Borla axle back system and had one of the best exhaust sounds in acceleration. The only thing I didn’t like about the 4.6 was the spark plugs. Broke 2 pulling them. Spent $100 on special tools to remove the broken plugs. I replaced plugs, the ones I put in, I used some nickel antisieze around the smooth base of the plug, NOT the threads. It’s not the thread that seize, it’s the long electrode tip that seizes with carbon buildup. I also replaced the coils, throttle body and injectors. Be careful and gentle with the plastic electrical connections on the injectors, they get brittle. That is my limited experience working on the Mustang. There are a lot of more knowledgeable people and videos out there.

Recommendations for Mods from a Mustang Enthusiats. 3.73 Axle Ratio with a good LSD. I personally like an Eaton Posi, my buddy likes the Detroit Tru-Trac. 1-pc Aluminum driveshaft. McLeod RXT Clutch + Flywheel, It'll take some serious abuse. Anything from VMP related to Cooling. BMR everything for the rear (control arms, drop bracket, panhard bar, upper arm etc). And then a nice suspension kit (shocks/strut/springs/sway bar) GET IT AS A KIT so the springs match the sway bar and the shock/strut travel. You can squeeze 285s square on those Shelby without mods (not even wheels). with a 10" wide rim and a space rup front, 305 wide. Thats the trick to get these to handle well. Stiff suspension, lots of tire, good LSD.

I have an 07 3v with similar miles. The evap systems on them all do the same thing and immediately guessed it before wizard even looked for the code. Between the fill neck or the canister connections - its inevitable that they leak in some way on these, usually not just the gas cap. Its annoying too because the gas tank is all tucked up in there pretty tight. Also look really close into front corner of the driver side rear wheel well. It rusts there pretty normally and stays well hidden until its already done its damage. Its hard to spot because you have to pop the skirt off to see if there's anything going on. I think a drain gets clogged...

When the car gets badly sideways it turns itself back on. So sideways and then suddenly straight again in whatever angle it was last at. Never turn it off except at a drag strip. It's NOT a problem with the design any more than older live axle muscle cars, but the way the safety software is programmed.

Your GT500 never failed its CA smog test. One time in 2019 the monitors weren't ready but that's it. It always passed smog, most recently in 2021.

That Mustang is absolute mint for the mileage. I do think it must rank up there with Tyler’s best purchases. And it proves that if owners actually look after cars, 200k+ miles is nothing to be afraid of, the Mustang needs a belt and some bushes, which are just consumables.

Nice Cutlass convertible! I had a 91 Cutlass Supreme International with the same color scheme and wheels. Mine wasn't a convertible, but was was very, very rare with the 3.4 DOHC v6 and Getrag HM-284 5 speed manual transmission. It had quad leather buckets, digital dash, H.U.D. it was one of 109 made that year with the 3.4-5 speed combo. They made less than 500 3.4 -5 speed w bodies in a 2 year run between the z34, grand prix, and Cutlass. 91 and 92, there was one 93 GP made with the combo, but no others.

About that Motorola gas powered heater - that thing is nowhere as weird as you think it is. Apparently, heaters were always an option until DOT mandated that cars had to have defrosters in 1962, and then the easiest/cheapest way to do it was to make heater core heaters - that use coolant to provide the heat -- part of all cars. Before 1962, though, lots of cars -- especially ones that were ordered in warm climates or were warm weather cars like, you know, convertibles -- didn't come factory with them. Accordingly, there were tons of aftermarket options that were a mad inventor's dream catalog -- gas heaters like yours, ones that used a heat exchanger wrapped around the exhaust systems, and a few other methods, all of which appear more or less looney today. The gas fired heater is still a big thing with the vanlifers, who use gas or diesel fueled air to air heaters to heat their living space safely -- the combustion chamber is sealed so there is no open flame, and properly designed ones exhaust though a duct outside the cabin. The only thing the slightest bit sketchy about your Motorola was that they appeared to just dump the combustion exhaust under the hood, where it could have been swept back into the cabin - the proper way to do it would have been to have run an exhaust pipe down underneath the car, where the airstream had a chance to carry it away. In a 1949 version of 'Cars and Coffee', that Moto would have been a cool car nut street cred piece. 😁

The live axle isn’t what causes the crowd crashes. It’s the independent rear that causes the snap oversteer

The fact that Wizard stores a lot of your cars for you even knowing it will be a week or longer waiting on parts before he/them can touch it again is pretty cool. And deserved!

This car is perfect, I’d love to have it. It was probably mostly highway miles and not driven by an idiot and with this mileage it could be had for very cheap, unlike the “garage queens” we see still fetching over $40,000. I’d love to have this as a fun weekend cruiser.

Short wheelbase and a solid live axle can be a handful if you don't respect it. Can't blame the car for irresponsible driving. Remember, cars haven't always had traction control and active independent suspensions. Like blaming a gun for killing someone or a spoon for making us fat.

Solid car, they are pigs in the handling department which otherwise makes them musclecar fun. I had a 2009 GT500 and did the 2.9 Whipple with pulley and full exhuast. Car would make 700 rwhp on a nice cool day and better yet I drove it all four seasons and took it on trips all the time. Ended up trading it in with 100k on the clock. Also had the EVAP problem, but that is because I chronically overfilled the fuel tank since the car loved to burn gas and when it hit "E"verybody walks and the light came on you had best be near a gas station. It ended up poisoning the evap which is that canister near the rear axle. Easy enough to fix, I grabbed the evap assembly off of a wrecked GT and swapped it out and fixed the problem.
