11.. From what I've been seeing, it seems like the Godot 4 interface.and scripting workflow seems to be more fluid and intuitive.

Also the biggest thing to note in Godot vs Unity vs Unreal is that Unity with all its plugins takes up anywhere from 5-15 gigabyte of space. Unreal 4 takes up around 8 gigabytes while Unreal 5 takes up around 120 gigabytes. Godot takes up less than 1/8th of a gigabyte. You can even run it in a browser. They optimized the shit out of Godot.

Yes! that is such a goodpoint, Godot is perfect for laptop development, which honestly is just so unrealistic with unity or unreal.

Just to remember, when godot 4.0 stable releases, there will still have some bugs. So dont be surprised by that, they will fix these bugs along the way on future releases.

I am using RC2 right now and it's already an improvement. The physics is such a leap. That said I Wanted to mention that they are not trying to compete with Unity, for good reason. For one they probably can't really ever target all of the platforms unity can natively for NDA/FOSS related licensing reasons. That and Unity offers a lot of monetization and server backend systems that Godot probably doesn't want even if it was feasible to try to add it, then there's the collaborate features which unity has and Godot really couldn't due to infrastructure being required. So professionals may eventually pick up the engine but it's not really geared towards the big budget AAA or even AA workflow. I love Godot, but while it is similar in some ways to Unity it isn't really competing with Unity in many ways. It's also not competing with Unreal, hence why epic threw money at the project, I doubt if they thought there was any chance of it becoming an actual competitor to them they would have given them a grant under any circumstances. Godot is a lightweight and accessible engine that is designed with the independent developer in mind, it's not trying to get big studios or Automakers or defense industry in on it, it's very focused and that's what makes it (even 3.X) better than Unity for me, personally. The only thing I miss from unity is the asset/addon store. I will say some FOSS tools are more competing with commercial products. Blender in some ways is trying to compete with say Maya, in many ways it isn't but a lot of professionals are starting to use it, I don't think this was the original intent of that project either, so maybe one day Godot will be trying to compete with the commercial engines, but not now. With it's newfound graphical horsepower and optimization it may soon look nicer graphically than unity but that alone would still do little to make it competitive, since again, Unity is all about those ads and microtransactions. Unity has wholeheartedly embraced the mobile market.

A lot of this seems like blind praising, i have seen complaints from experienced developers that the engine still lacks basic functionality and that the physics are at the current state, unusable. The decision to depracate bullet seems to have been made too hastily as the main developer of the physics engine quit over a year ago and no one seemed to take over so the physics weren't fully finished since. So that means we'll have to wait for someone to come in and make the physics functional possibly delaying 4.0 by months, and since we are in a feature freeze nothing new will get added and the release might ultimately disappoint many people considering the long wait time. Alternatively they might just release the engine in a broken state, PROMISING it'll get better with subsequent releases, or maybe they'll miraclously decide to add an alternative physics engine, like bringing back bullet or jolt.

been a while since I used anything else but godot has been #1 for 2d games for a while now imho, and the 4.0 update brings it nearly up to par with unity for 3d games for most devs/games. of course different engines have different use cases but the ease of use that godot provides as well as the open source and free to use aspects make it a no brainer for solo and small team devs imho, unless you really want highly realistic graphics in which case unreal is the obvious winner, however as a solo or small team realism is rarely the focus.

I am excited for Godot 4. As for the current state of Godot, it is the favorite game engine Ive ever used. I used a bit of Unity and Gamemaker but for my choice of games 2D, I feel Godot is pretty awesome. 3D could use work as I have heard which is why Godot 4 is exciting but I have no interest is 3d to be honest

exactly! I might give 3d a try tbh, but im going to for sure stick with 2d

2:39 - Godot 4 is not going to support VisualScript. Why? Because it does not meet expectations.
