Most farming sim games don't have voice acting. Then again most of them retail for $20 - $40. Have great animation and depend on the "cute" factor so the art style sells it. Voice acting is kind of a funny thing to me. You spend so much time customizing your character to the vision in your head, and you have an idea of who they are in your head, and sometimes when they add voice acting it's jarring, because that voice that they decided on doesn't fit with what you've customized. I think I'm with you on this one, it's nice if it's there, but it's not a big deal at all if it isn't.

Voice acting is expensive... except this is *SQUARE ENIX.* This company popularized voice acting in JRPGs with Final Fantasy X, hired voice acting for every single dialogue in Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song, and paid absolutely top-tier Japanese VAs to act in the remake of an obscure/financially flop game in the 90s like Live-A-Live simply for the heck of it. Hiring voice acting isn't just the company showing you they have big money; it also shows that they're passionate and committed to the project. Square Enix has always prided itself as THE Japanese RPG developer in the AAA world. If Harvestella's really a stepping stone for a new franchise to rival Rune Factory and Atelier, they *cannot* go cheap on this title.

I don't mind lack of voice acting, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if Harvestella doesn't have it. I do like how RF 5 has 'some' voice acting in it but that's a personal preference. I love what they showed with the farming so far, the animations look a little stiff but the movements are fast so you don't have to spend 2-3 seconds watching your character do some weird exaggerated watering animation like I have seed in some farming games. Combat looks good to me, main thing I would like them to add is some kind of dodge/roll in combat to make it feel more fast paced. I don't mind swapping jobs at the stones since I would have expected some kind of difficulty swapping jobs mid combat given experience playing FFXIV where you can only change jobs out of combat. Love the use of elements to buff/decrease damage taken/given as long as it doesn't become too extreme. Will need to see more in the next developer interview though. Have alot of high hopes for Harvestella I will definitely be playing a ton when its out. I am really glad they are also releasing this on Steam as too many publishers seem to only release on one/two platform(s) and its usually not on Steam until later if its a console port.

I'm still optimistic about Harvestella since even if I know it will have cheesy story, it won't be as cheesy as RF or SoS. I don't really care about VA personally since I know that while it is made by SE, it is their smaller team to the point they didn't announce the staff behind the game until just lately. It seems to be a branch of Octopath/Bravely team though since the modelling and lighting are similar. Also everyone seems to be mistaking this game as AAA in comment section LOL. Seriously guys it is at best a AA game in reality. If it is AAA, they would put more effort in marketing the game, albeit SE has the bad quirk on not marketing their game that isn't called KH or FF so it is actually rather sketchy on where to draw the line. They already made it clear that character episode exist so there will be side story attached to it. They give it to most picture-character too so depending on the length, it will be quite the read. Seriously, who write the scenario for fuck's sake, I need name. I wonder if it is going to be Farming sim with Battle or Battle game with Farming sim. The former is RF, the latter is like Sakuna. I will still call it RF with budget though since that is the closest in term of graphic and system.

Voice acting has never been important to me. I grew up with the old school Nintendo, back when only pixel games existed. I was a teenager when GameCube and Playstation2 came out. Voice acting was never a part of games when my childhood was around. They don't make a big difference for me now. I have grown quite used to reading text, and I really enjoy and feel great happiness imagining what the characters sound like. Plus, if the characters make a sound effect at the minimum, or simple say, "Hello." when talking to the player, I can understand what they sound like talking in all the text as it is. Harvestella is still in development and a WIP for a short while longer as the finishing touches are, and as such this isn't a view of the final result, so I expect it can change a little as they add more to it with the final touches. They might add some voice sounds to the character and NPCs. Plus the names of the NPCs will inevitably be added as well. Such is the development stages going on. The Japanese names are likely picked already, but they need to choose an English name for each NPC, among other things. I love seeing a preview of the game while it is in development. The fact this game is also coming from a triple A company at a cheaper price than most of their games doesn't give me much hope that there is going to be a huge ton of additional content and tons of changes from the preview... but we will see some.

Lack of voice acting and weird running animation are only a few things for nitpicking.. RF5 actually has voice acting even if it was partial. They hired really famous voice actors too, like Erica Lindbeck for Lucy's char for instance. And while Harvestella art style might appear gorgeous, RF5 also went the extra mile to use E-mote technology for their VN style animation of portraits while Harvestellas are static and not really many cg's were used for each char emotion/stance. (people who are used to reading alot of VN's like me, will aknowledge that far more effort was put into RF5 regarding this) These are all little things that are actually pissing me off. Square is not a small company and they are charging full price for this. Also not going the extra mile to include romance, festivals, town events and only making this game highly story focused seems kinda insane to me tbh. I will get this game but will wait for sale though and only to support this genre. The running animation definitely has to change, apart from that it looks like an ok game, doesnt look like it has gifting or befriending and since this is Square Enix I was expecting much more tbh, the lack of voice acting is disappointing too, AGAIN this is Square Enix and not some small company...so im confused why it doesnt look higher budget

After reading the blog post and watching the gameplay I'm still looking forward to it but I will tone down my expectations. So far it looks okay but not great. I will probably not buy it at launch for full price and wait for a discount.
@raulrojas92532 жыл бұрын
The game looks rough, I don't want another Rune factory 5. Presentation is important, we aren't asking for ultra 4K graphics, but at least something well made and pleasant to watch and this is Square enix, a small indie team they are not. Ok the cooking looks interesting, we have to wait and see if the combat and job mechanics can carry the whole experience.
@piperbird71932 жыл бұрын
To be fair, a lot of us grew up where your guy was a square, so your character walking a little strangely isn't even something to worry about. As long as the game play is fun, it literally doesn't matter to me what the character looks like or how they move.
@eonsandeons2 жыл бұрын
Can you explain why it looks rough? It actually looks really beautiful to me, personally. Especially in comparison to RF5, and I'm a huge fan of RF.

Nothing that we haven't seen before - I'm quite disappointed by this game so far. For a very highly-priced game, it seems to be below the quality you get nowadays in great RPG games, and the farming side is really boring at first sight. The lack of relationships mechanics is also below par. For now, I sincerely prefer to experience 3 or 4 other indie-farming games for the same price and get diversity. Hope to be proven wrong.
@Nesdude422 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I think that it's the Square Enix brand that they're using to carry the sales of this game. That name deserves a higher price, at least in their minds. I'm a big fan of the company, but if the quality doesn't fit the price - I'm going elsewhere.

Them saying *curb balls and not curve balls ( @ 5:18 ) is bugging me lol The graphics aren’t the best but it still looks like a pretty game, with different landscapes and colors/themes. I love when games include customization not just because diversity but also it makes the game feel more personal because you can create a character that physically looks like you or however you perceive yourself.

The curb ball thing also annoyed me, it made me question whether curve ball was correct or not. 😆

u thought it will be better than rune factory in the first place idk why alot of people even compared this to rune factory when there isnt any romance, the battle is the main focus, the farming is simple and also second hand not the main focus.

I pretty much echo your opinions. I'm old enough to remember the SNES pretty well, and games like Breath of Fire defined me growing up, so a lack of VA is no issue whatsoever so long as story and gameplay can make up for it. But yes, the animations look very...stiff, which is a little off putting. Especially considering how awesome the environmental designs look. Really with RF5 did a little better in that regard. Going to temper my expectations, but definitely will be glued to the channel as release time comes near!

my gripe is the time you get you cant get anything done if you go to look for the girl it takes lot time to travel and it goes so quick the time you dont have time to do anything as by time you find some monsters its time to go to bed i hate it i dont know if it s the demo or its going to be like this real game if it is its a deal breaker for me i wont pay that much for it

Steam Curator Reviews have said that there is no romance at all. I said right at the start that it would be so like Square Enix to make something that looks so interesting, but miss out one of the most important expectations of farming sims. Lots of people on both JP and ENG twitter have been asking for it, so I could see it being a DLC at some point, but right now no such luck.

I don't care about a lack of voice acting, but I'm just not that big on battling. I can put up with it on games like rune factory where there is still a focus on farming and the town. But from what i saw the town seemed bland. If the characters aren't super interactable it will be a definite no go for me

I was pretty excited about Harvestella when I first found out about it...now I'm only cautiously optimistic. While I prefer some manner of voice acting in games the lack of it really is not a problem for me since, y'know, I remember the days when all games were 8-bit and you had to read what the characters were saying.... HOWEVER SE is not some small indie company. They have far more resources available to them than most so I'm really a bit miffed that a very established company can't pull from their catalogue of very talented VA's (yes, even the English VA's) and at least put in some well placed one off sentences or even "gibberish" for the characters you meet or interact with. The lack of voice, while tolerable to me, does this game no favors in this day and age when VA work is pretty much standard in AAA titles. And, I hate to say it, but the lack of optional romance in a life sim will really deflate my interest in Harvestella when and if that is confirmed. That layer of optional interaction with the in game characters just makes these games have a touch more "life" to it. So yeah... cautiously optimistic.

This game is too disappointing. The game is ver bland, unoriginal and boring. Better play other farming games specially those pixel type games
@Zodia1952 жыл бұрын
One of my fav indie games is Stardew Valley and it has no Voice acting to and I still loved it. So no VA won't bother me. The Stomach meter . . . . something like that concerns me honestly. Because while I love cooking in a sims game, I don't like being 'forced' to, not in this situation because it could get very tedious very quickly to be collecting so many things. In other words it would make me feel like I was being rushed and in a game like this, I want to take my time and relax. We'll see though. And like others have mentioned in the past, if there's no marriage system, I probably won't get it. I have be careful with my money and I'd rather spend it on a game I am hyped for. I do hope the game does well, but Square is going to be entering the Farming Sims genre, I do hope they at least looked at what made series like Rune Factory so successful and marriage system played a huge role in that.
@PrettyGuardian2 жыл бұрын
I don't think farming games are niche at all any more. After the success of Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, My Time at Portia (and others) it's a tried and established genre at this point and the fact that Square Enix is trying so hard to get into it now is only further evidence of that.

I don't care if there's no voice acting. I do care about romance. I'm extremely disappointed personally that there's no romance. The characters here look so good and more mature. We've been given a lot of very colorful chibi style characters in other farm sims which is fine but I'd love to interact with characters in this art style as well. Imagine walking with your romantic interest in this beautiful environment on a date.

I think it will have voice acting. The demo asks if you want English or Japanese voice acting before you start. Perhaps they’ll add it to the full game?

I think Etrian Odyssey is a closer game to compare this game with, at least in the dungeons, it takes a lot of the elements from the labyrinths you explore, they are linear with shortcuts and harvest points, the FEAR is the same as the FOE in Etrian Odyssey, you have the same return mechanics. It's such a pretty game and I'm enjoying the demo so far

I stayed up to watch the treehouse live (because of timezones) and I was super disappointed. They barely showed anything, just wasted 30mins running around a dungeon that you are going to have to keep going back to grind (according to what they said). I like that you can change the jobs, reminds me of Bravely Default or Fantasy Life. I really like the world setting too but idk if there's anything more than the fancy art tbh. I'm definitely not going to pay $90 for this... maybe in a few months when it goes half price lol. I did a search in japanese to see if they mentioned anything new in jp magazines but even the jp ppl are asking everywhere if there's going to be marriage/romance, so my guess is no, because it would be a great selling point and if they didn't even hint it, I'm 120% sure there isn't.
