as a former player/bachelor in my teens and young adult life, henry having lots of cleaning and hygene supplies is common for men like that... seeing how henry only dates tourists who will leave and he'll never see again ,he wants to make sure his hygene is on lock, and him lying about what he does is also spot on aka "first impressions" dating concept.. but jeremy never was nor could be a player or bachelor so that explains why he sinned that part

That was a really good romantic comedy film. I typically don't like them too much but her mental illness and memory loss helped me feel a sense of attachment to her. I have Autism and I have been put in positions to see things in this "perfect little bubble", where I don't question stuff. It took my first true, genuine friend to break me from such a thing. Funny enough we did date (three times), spent a few years apart and then became incredibly close friends again. Point is, I have this strong sense of connection to her in the film and the lengths he went to try and help her cope with the earth shattering revelations are heartwarming and emotional. The fact Jeremy thinks it's appropriate to make jokes and throw stupid situations at a woman who's literally in a time loop, who needs support, is apparently supposed to come to the reality that she doesn't remember anything past a certain point and has breaks in her psyche because of these revelations should be treated as someone who's normal and fully cognitively functional... is quite stupid and disrespectful. But whatever, first time I watched this film and it's good, probably one of, if not the "best", romantic comedy that creates genuine emotional bonds that also conveys such messages to us the audience
@simpleguy86

hope you don't mind if I vent too. I am high-functioning but never was tested til like 26 so I hear it's called masking, most just thought I was weird or "not normal". Personally I still feel those "perfect bubble" moments but idk if that's a me thing or a bit of optimism? I too liked this movie and agree 10 billion with percent( Dr. Stone reference lol). Sadly there are Jeremy's who will make out of context jokes but oh well. I'd much rather have my moments of oblivious optimism than be all "man this movie isn't realistic to memory stuff, clearly didn't do there research, etc and rather if a movie make me feel I fee;. Hope this made some sense as I tend to ramble but like to share when I see someone mentioning there Autism.

@@simpleguy86 it's completely fine. I was diagnosed when I was... eight or nine? I was diagnosed first with ADHD then Asperger's Syndrome. Mum always did say there was something "different" about me. Though I was her first child so hard to tell. When I was a child, a social worker (abusive "father") defined it as "their brain is wired differently". Hopefully that doesn't seem offensive either, but I believe it's the easiest way to describe Autism or ASD. Coping mechanisms are sometimes the only thing that keeps me calm and mentally in check. Like for example, the stuff with Ukraine/ Russia has been messing with that. Because I'm constantly thinking about it and how terrible some (Putin) can be. It messes with me because I, someone who is """stupid""" (what the bullies used to say), is more compassionate, empathetic and kind than someone running a country. But I digress, the whole idea of a safe bubble is just what people with needs sometimes need. I get "jokes" can reference a lot of things, but mental health is just one of those rare things that shouldn't be made fun of. Like I sometimes want some personal space from others, if Jeremy had it his way, I would be required to be close to others so that "I can get used to it". Seems like we both ramble on it seems 😅

The reason everything is suffixed with phobia is because homophopia came first and it originally meant "fear of being assumed to be gay" before eventually becoming "against gay people" thus transphobia, biphobia, fatphobia was born

@applehack97

I think the reasoning is the suffix "phobia" comes from the greek word "phobos", and attaching an english word like "fat" with "phobia" sounds extremely weird. Fear of spiders is not "spiderphobia" it's "arachnophobia", fear of water is not "waterphobia" it's "aquaphobia" and rejection of foreigners is not "foreignphobia" it's "xenophobia"
@Phoenix2312
@Phoenix2312 2 жыл бұрын
@Deadland Placebo Today I found out... The More You Know... I never knew that origin.... And I do like to know and understand the Origin of words... Thank you for that insight! And @Renaldy Calixte "Phobia" comes from the Latin Phobos... And so do the prefixes... Hence, Fear of Water is Aquaphobia... Aqua is derived from Latin, Arachnophobia... Again Arachno is derived from Latin... Which makes things such as "Fat Phobia" and "Islamaphobia" sound made up... While they can be and I would even dare to say in some respects are real issues - The words themselves are very derivative. Something such as "Islamaphobia" should have a Prefix more akin to Religious Intolerance GENERAL... I obviously do not know Latin so I cannot provide the correct Prefix - But it is a great example of words being "Co-Opted" without full understanding. It does nto mean such an issue does not exist, but it actually damages teh importance of the word "Phobia" when it can be attached to ANYTHING! Great Example... I am Agnostic... I believe in god but follow no mainstream Religion - I could accuse Christians of being "Paganphobic" - It is a totally made up word using Modern Analogies and descriptions... And harms the "Phobia" part of the word. I do believe we should stop abusing the Phobia Suffix! Put Simply - You criticism is SPOT ON!

@@Th3Birdman I’m just pointing out here that people aren’t necessarily wrong if they do use it as a suffix to mean a hatred or aversion to something, as language also changes all the time and is constantly evolving. Plus, one could argue that hatred is born of fear, which is born of ignorance. I hate spiders. I hate spiders because I am afraid of them. If you hate someone for bigoted reasons, I would argue that comes from an innate fear of people who are different.

I remember the first time I ever heard about this movie was an old rant by a famous vlogger, who said that he didn't think the ending made any sense... I guess not realizing that this is a real condition and that is the real treatment. Maybe he meant that it didn't make sense to frame it as a happy ending, which is _arguably_ more reasonable, but still something I would consider problematic. Also, there was a Mental Floss video that at one point addressed the tendency of Hollywood movies to exclusively depict retrograde amnesia and not acknowledge anterograde amnesia... and they cited this movie as one of several examples. Clearly whoever wrote that video just Googled "movies about amnesia" and didn't check to make sure that all of them were appropriate examples.

Hi, um, I love your EWW CinemaSins videos and I kinda wanted to rant on this video that I've watched several times. The rant is more or less about my guilty pleasure movie and seeing how you defend it so confidently kinda gave me confidence to write this here because I don't know where else to rant. My guilty pleasure movie is 'Strange Magic' and you may not have heard of it because many people disliked it and many critics thought it sucked. When I watched reactions to the movie the most constant thing that popped up was there was too much singing and not enough talking...when it's meant to be a musical using already existing songs to help tell the story... What makes me so mad about it is they forget it's meant to be a musical and that the songs chosen are to portray the thoughts of characters, portray their feelings and give them theme music by having THEM sing it instead of it being in the background because it gives more depth to development. I admit the bit JUST BEFORE the credits was weird, but the story was the best part and the happy ending was great as well! The way the people I saw criticize that it had too many songs would be like saying Hamilton had too much rapping and not enough ACTUALLY singing... say the sentence out loud...hear how dumb it sounds? REALLY DUMB!! Because saying a musical has too much singing and not enough talking is identical to saying a musical has TOO MUCH talking and NOT ENOUGH singing! I know the movie used already existing songs but that's what's so great and creative about it! Using existing songs is amazing because songs always tell stories without always giving you a visual look or only the aftermath and using them in the film was THE BEST THING EVER!! In the beginning, when Marianne sang 'Can't help falling in love' it portrayed how much of a fool in love she was and when duet-ing with Roland the way they both sing the song shows their personalities AND when Roland looks into the river it is the second time we get to see who he truly is but it doesn't click because we are seeing things from Marianne's view which is rose-colored glasses! Then the next song 'I'll never fall in love again' shows Marianne taking off the glasses and seeing what guys are truly like, or at least guys like Roland. The songs help us see things from the character's point of view even if the songs already existed because the beauty of that is when they are used in the right moments! When Roland tries to get back with Marianne he sings 'C'mon Marianne' to which Marianne sings 'Stronger' by Kelly Clarkson because it is to prove to Roland she is no longer taking his lies. So you can understand why it angers me that people hate that the movie has too much singing and not enough talking! I apologize if this annoys anyone or Birdman, I just needed to get it off my chest and show that there are more people out there who are as stupid as Jeremy.

Y'know, it occurs to me that I treat your videos the way many CinemaSins fans treat actual movies: Why watch it (CinemaSins Video) when I can watch this (your video) instead and then not have to?

So your talk about "-phobic" terms got me thinking. I do agree that the word misogyny makes a lot more sense than the rest. My initial thought was "-ogony" but then I looked up the etymology and learned the miso part is the hateful part. In my opinion, misofat/misotrans/misohomo sound just ... weird. So I thought let's go full Greek on the words. Misopachys sounds like a much more effective shaming method than fatphobic. Following this same pattern, (please note I just used Google Translate so take all of this with a mountain of salt) I'd guess the most accurate for transphobic would be misoperan, and homophobic misomofylofilos. If someone happens to know Greek, please let me know how far off these guesses would be, and especially if there's a shorter way to say that last one, because I do honestly feel like TBM has a point. Thanks for getting me to at least attempt to learn something!

Henry is shown to lie to one of the woman he dates, that's the problem, I haven't seen the original Cinema Sins video, but if Jeremy didn't bring that up as the problem, then he sucks at making his point

I love this movie so much, and I'll never understand why people think it's gross. I'd kill for someone who loved me enough to do what they all do for Lucy, not just her family but her friends too They could have just sent her to the mental institution or any number of things, but chose to make the best of it for her sake.

I've had moments where I've woken up, thinking things that were in my dream were happening in real life, with it taking several seconds for my brain to catch up. And there was one time when my alarm clock was going off, my 3/4-asleep self decided instead of hitting one of the buttons on the top, it'd be a better idea to open the back and take the batteries out to make it shut up XD I had to reset the time and date; it also has a thermometer that I forgot to set back to F from C, but I decided it didn't really matter. I think the only Adam Sandler movie I've seen (at least 90% of, when it's on TV) is Waterboy. If CS sins that movie, and you've seen and/or enjoyed it as well, I implore you to tell him why he's wrong about it XD
