The “Spear” is actually called a Johyo, which means “Rope Dart”. Ninja are known to have a preference for hybridized ranged rope weapons. Other, similar weapons used by ninja include the Kyoketsu-Shoge, the Kusari-Gama, the Manriki-Gusari, The Chigi-Riki and a weapon that I can’t remember the name of but does resemble a literal “stabby yo-yo”. The reason why ninja prefer rope/chain weapons is because of their range, their versatility and the surprise factor trying to confront a ninja with a sword and they pull out something other than a sword. The attacker would be confused and not know how to counter such weapons.

I love how I’m the scene with SubZero and Jax, Bei Han plays it safe because he doesn’t recognize modern weaponry. In the scene where he freezes the buckshot his curious face is great. He’s ignoring Jax entirely and looking at the gun and buckshot like “wtf kind of bow is this?!” lol It was a good little detail. A gun would be terrifying to an ancient person, regardless of power. Not many things make that kind of boom and you can’t see why things die or explode…

I really hope that we get a director's cut of this film, to make it no longer the disjointed hack job the studio execs forced it to be. There was something like an extra hour of film planned and recorded before they neutered the runtime for "reasons". I would LOVE to see this as the passion project it really was instead of what it became. Even though it is essentially an entire movie based off a throw away line from the original MK. "Your side show freaks attacked my fighters. That is expressly forbidden before the tournament."

Honestly, I love how angry people get over the whole "there's no tournament in this movie" when out of roughly 20 games, only 1 1/3 focus on the ACTUAL tournament. Even including the Outworld one (which isn't even an official Mortal Kombat Tournament, but more simply an agreement between Raiden and Shang Tsung), that's still only 3 2/3 out of TWENTY. It's okay that this doesn't have the tourney. Although, I do admit, I hope the sequel is a tourney. I'm just okay with world-building. Especially when they changed a bunch of minor things.

I think in an interview they planned on having the second movie be expressly the tournament, and that was where they were going to introduce Johnny, as he is basically THE personality. The OG lore of MK was far too diverse to put into a single movie, they need to build it up slowly like what Marvel originally did by giving the Avengers each their own story first, and not give it the new Hellboy and/or Justice league treatment.

To be fair... At least they are consistent with their inconsistencies. For example, Raiden is initially pronounced "Rye-Den" instead of "Ray-Den" (thanks for that, MGS2) and technically, Kang would be Liu Kang's first name not his last (especially since Liu is a common Chinese last name)

Some writers have noticed this criticism and tried to figure out a way for a woman to fight a man and their answers were Abby Andersen, Talia, and She-Hulk II. The problem is that the designs of these characters are absolutely abysmal to look at. Abby looks like Max Payne if you ripped his head off and put Sonya Blade's head on the shoulders. Andersen was originally based off a female bodybuilder in real life, but after the creator (Neil Drukmann I think) took notes from Anita Sarkissian, she looks nothing like her real life counterpart and is now some abominable meme. Talia and She-Hulk II have similar problems. Originally, these women looked strong and healthy, but more importantly they were feminine; complete with an hourglass figure and impressive bottom. In their redesigns, Talia has half her head shaved, looks likes she's taken steroids, and her chest and back is flatter than a sidewalk. She-Hulk got the worse of it! She looks like Hulk with a pony-tail, enough said. My point is that rating fiction is pretty confusing to me considering in fiction all kinds of nautical nonsense and it making sense seems like a very secular minded way of judging a piece of fiction. Therefore, maybe we should decide that it is okay that a smol woman is kicking some ass since there is an audience for that stuff and nobody wants to see what ever the hell they turned She-Hulk into. She does not need to look like the Hulk to lift buildings and throw them, and it is fine that Sonya Blade is kicking some ass too, especially in this movie where she isn't just fighting woman but also an Australian dude, which makes the entire sin moot anyway!

There were a few people who for some reason hated this movie beyond reason. And I have no idea why. It gave us everything we wanted to see from the games (minus Jonny Cage but we'll see him in the sequel so...), the characters look great, the story is awesome, Cole isn't a bad new character and my favourite character from Mortal Kombat, Scorpion, was done incredibly. I can't wait for the sequel.
