Don't Worry Darling sure got a lot of press leading up to its release, but ultimately the movie is kind of just okay. Anyway, the sins were always gonna be there, so we went digging.
Thursday: comic book sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

It makes no sense that Alice is a surgeon, yet people would notice if she suddenly stopped showing up for work. Also, Jack didn't want to have to work, yet has to take a second job to pay for the programme, and look after Alice. How is this any better than what he was doing before?

Florence literally carrying this movie on her back while feuding with Olivia Wilde speaks volumes of her talent. I genuinely wanted this movie to trump over all the bts drama but nah man I should've been worrying all along darling. That 3rd act is so fucking dumb. Florence deserved better.
@socialmoon
@socialmoon Жыл бұрын
There was no feuding, though. Harry Styles' fans started shit about Olivia Wilde back when they were dating, & it resurfaced for this film. Right-wing rags then jumped on the story (because who else can pit woman against woman when there's no actual dispute?) which helped it circulate & gain traction.

I'm afraid it isn't the fans, however. Ive been a fan for the past 4 years and the only shit that his fans has started w/him and olivia was the fact that they thought it was all a PR stunt because they were desperate to make sure an 8 year old ship with a former band member, Louis Tomlinson, was "_real_", sadly. @introgeek5278
@introgeek5278 Жыл бұрын
@@Arbee1000 just look up “Don’t Worry Darling Black List script” and you should easily find a PDF file of it. In the original script, they were Evelyn and Clifford, not Alice and Jack. It was just those two in the simulation and you find that out early on but at first it's a mystery and it's done with blinding white light as she enters something (motel room, closet door) not she thrusts back touching glass. And how it all came to be for them to get to the simulation. She was a successful surgeon and he had a shitty job which he hated and it turned him bitter and jealous of her success which led to their divorce and when he found the program, the process is the girl gets kidnapped, he fakes her death (so no one looks for her) and he places her in the simulation and becomes the stepford 1950s housewife, and when she’s exits out of it, she's freakishly thin as she’s been in there for a while. And in the end, she stabs him repeatedly in the world and passes out from exhaustion and wakes up back in the simulation in a mental hospital as he used the last of his energy to frame her for killing him until her neighbour finds out what “Alice” was saying was true and she set up a way to escape just by leaving the room she’s in at the mental hospital and goes through the door, the blinding light flashes and that's the end. It's a smaller world set up but it was a far more efficient story told than the one that became the movie.

The movie never tells us what Jack did for a living, but it was obvious that he was out of work and felt like a loser, to the point where he started taking his frustrations out on Alice. The fact that Alice was a successful surgeon/doctor made Jack feel like less of a man, so in his mind, the balance of power in the relationship was with Alice...he loved and needed her, and, although she loved him, she didn't really need him. So Jack probably decided that if he was going to have to get some crappy job anyway, he would get one to pay for a simulation where he could have the type of world he wanted...where he was the successful, bread-winning man of the house and Alice was the subserviant good little housewife.

Was not expecting such a delightful Bohemian Rhapsody parody. The movie absolutely lost me when we learn that Jack didn't want Alice to take more shifts - She's the breadwinner as a surgeon, which can emasculate some men - But the solution was forcing her into a comatose state, where HE has to constantly take care of HER? What a stupid and abusive lose-lose situation.

SIN: I haven’t seen the movie, so perhaps this point is addressed … but how do these select men find the Victory project? I know that it’s through the podcast, but, if it’s that simple, then the police should be able to find it as well, right? Or a victim’s family member? Or someone who figures it out, pretends to be a client, and then reports the project to the police? SIN: And that town is so tiny. It’s inevitable that someone would get bored or curious and just go out into the desert - no airplane crash needed. It doesn’t need to be the size of the Matrix, but there should be a bunch of entertaining places to go. Expected at least one sin for Harry Style's acting
@roguishpaladin
@roguishpaladin Жыл бұрын
They've mentioned before that they try not to throw people under the bus for quality of acting. You just can't tell what goes into what one might perceive as a poor performance - the ability of the actor themselves, the direction, the script they're given, the way the movie gets edited, or simple taste or vision discrepancies from the viewer. Better to be kind where you can be.

Literally in the same dancing scene another super heavy handed metaphor was when Chris Pine says "who's world is it?" And only the men shout "ours" even the subtitles say "only the men: ours"

"Alice picking up extra shifts was TOO much?" Not to sound like one of your detractors but I legit hope you're joking here. The whole point of Victory is for men to reclaim their status as the provider and women to stay at home cooking, cleaning, and getting knocked up. So yeah, in Jack's eyes, it _was_ too much.

5:49 the "No." did something to me 🤤 Edit: this video definitely suffered from second-movie-itis. it's clear olivia wilde thought that this was going to be so good that people would demand another movie and all the cast would want to work together again. little did she know... hahaha

if you go and look at how it was supposed to originally end, it makes this ending much more disappointing. But the movie did have some good aspects to it plus I loved the vibes. Florence definitely deserved better and people shit on Harry's acting but think about it he's acting next to Florence ofc he's not going to look amazing next to her. He still did a good job. Also, that bohemian rhapsody parody was *chefs kiss*

I stopped watching CinemaSins regularly half a decade ago, but I am still excited to watch this video. Because of how Don't Worry Darling messed up its message and intentions, and all of the negative reviews that it got, I knew CinemaSins would have a lot of sins to count for this film. And let me tell you, it is quite a crowning achievement for a terrible film to get 709,919 sins in 24 minutes and 8 seconds. If you want to know how Don't Worry Darling got that many sins, go to the 13-minute mark of this video. February 23, 2023, 10:55am

Olivia Wilde for the movie "It's better to be confussed than being bored" Ma'am...we were both confussed AND bored. "It's better to be confussed"?? Who wants to be confussed when watching a movie. We want a story to actually be told and there was barely a story in this movie. So many questions that nobody bothered to answer.

Maybe it would have been better if they made this a tv show instead of a movie. It has a good story, but it wasn’t executed well that left the audience confused at some points. With this as a show they could’ve had more time to explain most of the things that happened that wasn’t clear or hasn’t really been explained.

Why would it work to escape in the end but not when she did it the first time? She probably got out but Jack put her back in the simulator when he got home and her memories were erased. In the end Jack died in the real world so he wouldn’t be able to put her back in and she could get out that way (would have to clean up his corpse tho?)

3:20 How does she not get seriously hurt with all the nearby cutlery on the table? Her head goes right where that impressively curved knife and the two-pronged cooking fork thing is. If one didn’t get her, the other one certainly would! (They’re probably not real, but I still wouldn’t risk it. They look real and for me that is scary enough).
