For as heartbreaking a scene as Dumbo only being to have minimal contact with his mother through those bars, at least she gets to live throughout the entire movie- and gets a happy ending! Not many Disney mothers get to claim anywhere near as much success.

Even The Lion King somehow got inadvertently cursed. XD Sure, Sarabi gets to see her baby boy fulfill his destiny... But then the voice actor died before the sequel and everyone forgets she ever existed for some reason. XD

@@Guilmon470 Considering that TLK2 continued Disney's grand tradition of exceptionally sh*tty sequels, she should be glad to have not been apart of that movie- aside from the whole, y'know, being dead part.

@@Guilmon470 I always assumed she either just got too old for the pack-activities after Simba took over the Pridelands and retired to chill in a cave somewhere, or was somewhere among the rest of lionesses of their pack and just wasn't given special focus during the events of Lion King 2.

I don't know about anyone else, but I literally blanked out all but the last 20 minutes from my memory. I *know* I watched this movie as a kid tons of times, but I genuinely didn't recognize ANYTHING prior to Dumbo's mom being taken away. I could have sworn the "see an elephant fly" song happened in the midsection, not right at the end.

This cruelty exists in real life animal circuses. This is why Ringling ran out of business. You know, Dumbo actually was the start of Ringlings long decline because it shed some light on real life circus cruelty. Interestingly enough, Inactually saw a petition to have the ending of the remake changed so that he would not stay in the circus. And considering how less and less popular animal circuses have become, I actually think this is a good idea.

Hard these days to defend the crows in Dumbo, what with the internet not doing nuance and all, but it's worth noting the crows are the smartest characters in the film and apart from the mouse the only ones who befriend and help Dumbo. Deserves a minus on a few of those racist sins for that.

@@nyxos0 Go on, say why not, prove it, because it kind of does make it better. Since it was made in a period when segregation was still very alive in the US, I rather like the idea of Dumbo being given identifitably black friends. If you can forgive the 'caricatures', it's quite a nice thing! And really what are we objecting to here, they call each other brother, joke around a bit and sing well in a musical film? Oh and by the way the name Jim Crow does not actually feature in it. What you're seeing is not really caricature, they're characters, black characters for sure, and smart ones informed by their own culture - black culture - most obviously jazz culture. What's most charming and believable about the sequence is it's the black characters who despite the jokes are the most sympathetic to the little outcast - and did you ever stop to consider why? It's because they know what it's like to not be accepted by certain parts of society, that's why the scene works so well. It's maybe not the most subtle treatment of black-ness, but it is certainly not one that er... dehumanises the crows. Would it really be better if such black characters were indistinguishable from white ones? There, nuance.

Just because there are stereotypes that exist in media (like games, movies, etc.) doesn't mean that we are being taught that those stereotypes are an accurate depiction of reality. They've done studies on this stuff, and the studies have shown that people (whether they're black, white, or whatever) have a natural preference for people who look similar to them. I'm not trying to say there aren't horrible racists out there, but I'm saying that most of the time, its just natural to be more comfortable around those who you share more similarities with and can relate to more easily.

Casey Junior is his own character from previous animated shorts by Disney. Here he's got a cameo as the train. Trust me, he's a lot more lively in those shorts.

Unpopular opinion: they are all as completely sad as each other. On its own, the *Baby Mine* scene in Dumbo is as sad as fuck thanks to the fact that Mrs. Jumbo was caged. But death is an extra sad, VERY serious thing, ESPECIALLY the death if a loved one.

It really depends on the current weather. For example, it is god awful to be here in the middle of August where the highs can go up to 100F with 100% humidity. However, it is much better in December or January where the high is likely to be, at most, 60F, sometimes with the same amount of humidity sometimes not, it's completely random in "Winter" here.

@@sergiod6781 I mean I guess, but this just an attack on the climate of the area, they have the Everglades hundreds of mile of swampy marsh areas, reptiles and snakes up the wazoo, cougars/mountain lions. Poisonous algae at time. Hurricanes and tropical storms. But they lure you in with the ranges, Disney World, and retirement homes, and of course spring break
