A little secret for easily changing the gear oil on a Boxster or Cayman without having to remove the reinforcement plate and jeopardize your alignment, drill a 2-3" hole in the plate directly below the drain plug. You can insert your socket extension straight in to it and drain through it as well. On our race cars we change it every 10 hours of track time and this makes it very quick and easy.

Just remember to disconnect the battery before removing either seat. That's most likely what caused your airbag light. Depending on how far you go with your stereo upgrade, the amp may be under the passenger seat (my 986 Boxster had it in the frunk, my 987.2 Cayman has it under the passenger seat).

"Nobody changes gear oil". Well, I change them to all my cars when I buy them. Even the 1000-2000$/€ ones with 400-500,000kms on them (and I'm not talking about Porsches but regular 20 years old cars like Audi A4 or VW Golf or Passat with 1.9-2.0 TDI engine). Honestly the IMS is probably the least of your worries at this mileage. Have the ninja check the DME for overrev history and also check the camshaft deviation to gvie you an idea of how worn the chain guides are. Given the nice condition of the car I'm guessing it had meticulious oil changes so the internal plastics (and IMS bearing seal) should be in good shape. Oh and check the shifter cables too cause they like to fail. Other than that fix the supension, put a good exhaust on it, and drive the hell out of it!

One of the Thunderbird pilots saw my son's photos from Cars & Coffee visits on weekends and tracked him down over a months time. Asked him if he would come to Nellis and photograph the pilots with their jets ... and wait for it ... they all owned a Porsche!! They pulled their cars up next to their jets for the shoot. Photos were out of this world excellent. The also had a new Mustang prototype that they allowed him to take pictures of but he had to promise not to release the photos until they announced the prototype formally. I laughed hard when you said pilots all own a Porsche. True story!!!

For the airbag light, I had read that when you take out the center console (for changing out the shift cables and shifter in my 987.1) you have to leave the airbag light connected or you will get a code that has to be reset. Could be that it was disconnected at some point. But glad you got that sorted. Side note, mine had 99k miles when I picked it up in 2021, have added about 5k in 18 mo (minus winter) and I love love love driving this thing. It’s a base model and couldn’t be happier with the sound and feel of it. I have a clunk in my right front, and I had replaced the away arms and bushings, but still there. I hear you have to tighten the bolts with the suspension compressed so that’s my next thing. But nothing else really to mention.

Its the same with Ian Tyrrell (Tyrrell's Classic Workshop) far less subs then you would expect......but I think the Car Ninja has the same approach as Tyrrell and treats KZbin as just a secondary thing, but the shop, quality of work and custom satisfaction is what really matters to those guys ......not subs and views.....its why you never hear either of them constantly brag about what a great mechanic they are and they just let their work do all the talking.......my thoughts anyways

@poormansporsche7442 жыл бұрын
Having owned 3 of these I agree that IMS is not a worry at 200k miles. More likely to kill your engine at this point is your chain tensioners, variocam pads, water pump failure causing overheating and cracked cylinder heads, etc etc, pretty much anything else. Also a 2005 car could have the old “serviceable” IMS or the newer bearing that can’t be removed. You won’t know until transmission is off. If you’re doing clutch it’s not a bad idea to do anyway but not urgent.
