The knock sensor being bad because it was given THE WRONG gasoline at over 200k miles shows how solid these cars really are.

I'd still say it's a fun project but that car definitely fell into the wrong hands. I'm taking my 6 speed Acura TL to 300k miles and so far I've put four new tires, rotors-pads-calipers in the rear, new rotors-pads in the front, new lower control arms, lower ball joints, sway bar links all around, converted HID to LED and I highly recommend Auxito LED bulbs for the headlights, four new struts, 6 new ignition coils and spark plugs, timing belt and water pump, valve adjustment, air filter, weighted shift knob, serviced the manual transmission and differential, new clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder, oem PCV valve and 6k oil change intervals. All in 15k miles so far it puts a smile on my face everyday I look forward to driving it even with everything I've done to it. A important sensor that's often overlooked is a ETC sensor I believe it's called. I bought one at the Honda dealer for my Acura and one at the Lexus dealer for my Lexus. Do not go aftermarket with this sensor. Get one from the dealer.. it's not a well known maintenance item but the original one snapped in half when replacing it on the LS400 I have and it increased the miles per gallon
@kevinftw163 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend replacing that sensor as I've changed it on every car I've ever bought and it's made a difference. Especially on high mileage vehicles or like my 89 SE-I that had all original everything on the engine til I got it.

A good reminder to always get a licensed mechanic to inspect a used car before buying. It’s worth the few hundred bucks.

The situation is tough. I could import a JDM GS 460 or even LS 460 (because there are way more of those and they are dort cheap compared to anywhere else in the world). Then I'd get a super nice well kept vehicle but I'd need to drive a RHD car in Europe AND what's really bitter is that I need to fill it up with gasoline for $7.87 per gallon. It used to be $8.09 per gallon but still. For reference: LPG (propane) is "only" $4.82 per gallon and it ALWAYS is significantly cheaper than gasoline. Unless I have a job where I drive very little with my car I'd be saving money on fuel very soon. The engines in every market except for early middle east models had port and direct injection, which means you can't convert it to LPG without a specialized direct injection kit, which aren't made for the UR engines. Importing one from the middle east (I've looked it up and there are some GS 460 available there) would solve the RHD and direct injection problem AND it would make it even more bulletproof, as port injection is the most robust fuel delivery system ever. Fun fact: the middle eastern Lexus models had only port injection because of the high sulfur content in the gasoline there. V8 Enthusiast have it hard in this world. 😔

If you clicked on my comment to see this you deserve to find out how cheap Lexus cars are on japanese auctions. The MOST EXPENSIVE 4th gen Lexus LS ever sold there is an LS 600hL with not even 24k miles on it and in absolute MINT condition for less than 30k USD. The reserve was 17k. Of course you Americans are sadly barred from importing these because of the draconian 25 year rule, and Canadians by their 20 year rule, but for anyone else in the world you should really look at these.
@imnotusingmyrealname45662 жыл бұрын
These fuel prices are for Austria and gasoline is 91 octane minimum, but I intend to move to the neighboring Germany because car people are less oppressed by taxes and policies there and would you look at that, gasoline is cheaper there too! "Only" $6.90 per gallon!

you should have kept your Volvo XC90. I have a black 2007 Volvo XC90 sport raised 2.5 inches. 155k miles. It was in much better condition than this Lexus. This car is kinda ugly. has rust and super high milage. rebuilding this motor will be a fortune. I bought a spare Volvo 4.4 V8 with 80k miles for $1000 for when my V8 goes. keep buying used cars and fixing them super expensive.
@BernonCars3 жыл бұрын
LOL… If I was still interested in the XC90 I’d still have it! I got bored of it and it had a lot of underlying issues. I had no use for it anymore, and I was not impressed at all with it’s off road performance. I trust a high mileage Lexus over a high mileage Volvo. You really think a Toyota will be more expensive to repair than a V8 Volvo?? I’m happy with my Lexus, thank you very much.

@@BernonCars The Lexus IS gonna be more of a money pit than the Volvo. The XC90 V8 is collectable because of low production numbers. also low production on ALL Volvo XC90's. The XC90 was never suppose to be used as a 4x4 which was your first problem. I have a decked out 160k 2000 Toyota 4 runner for that. Some rust but I live in the desert. Joshua Tree CA.
