A nice touch with the reload animation with the pistol, Ethan will only do a 'tactical' reload (holding onto both mags) when you reload without emptying the mag. This is because the mag you are swapping still has ammo, so he holds onto it. If you fully empty the mag, Ethan will drop it and perform a more standard reload without bothering with the mag being swapped. No gameplay effect, but a really nice attention to detail.

@@rodafowa1279 Fair enough. However, that was a bonus. Here, it's more of a pacing thing, something much more deliberate for the narrative’s flow. As a large aside, I’ve noticed that Village seems to attempt to play with the emotional state of the player much more than in other RE games, a trait common in more psychological horror games. You have the entire dollhouse segment, the factory being a long and dry buildup to a stupid-awesome bossfight, Ethan’s death flowing into Chris CoD-ing the place, and even the entire endgame. They were trying to make the player _feel_ something through the story beats, not just through the moment-to-moment gameplay. For me it starts getting a wee bit boring in the second half and that's where I struggle replaying the most.
@runningdecadeix47803 жыл бұрын
I didn't expect to disagree with you so much. The beginning parts do, indeed, feel slow when playing through the whole thing again - same for House Beneviento. But in exchange, these parts get to be amazing during the first playthrough. And in my opinion, having strong, scary/creepy and memorable moments during the first playthrough is better than having a better and more streamlined NewGame+ experience. The first time playing a single player game is always the most important one, IMO. Plus, I don't think these sections are too bad on replay. I in fact got excited to try to go through the werewolf raid again with all my upgraded weapons; the way you play differs and it's nice. House Beneviento still manages to be creepy (the baby especially) and if you know what to do, it doesn't take too long. Finally, complaining that we only play as Chris for a short time doesn't even make sense to me. The game is about Ethan. Yes, Chris is in the cover, but the game is about Ethan and by the time you get to Chris's part that should already be very obviously clear to the player. I don't know how anyone would've expected the Chris section to last as long as an Ethan section. I also strongly disagree about this part being "bad". I actually thought it was amazing. You got to feel how powerful Chris Redfield is at that point, now that he has dealt with so many bioweapon incidents. And the whole section was really awesome - the music, the atmosphere, and even the quick pacing that shows us that we're really taking part in a military mission that has to be fast and effective. I think, in fact, that this game has the best "final part" of any RE game. RE games usually tend to get not-so-good endings. RE4 which is a masterpiece has a somewhat weak ending, especially the last fight. RE:Village ending was amazing IMO; the entire Chris sequence, the information, the boss battles, everything. I think RE:Village is a masterpiece that will be loved for years to come. So I disagree with you on a lot of these issues. I do agree, however, that the difficulty progression is flawed. In particular, the werewolf raid in the beginning is quite broken, especially on hardcore. The game should at least have told the player what to do, like, "survive until the end of the raid", anything. As it is, it is extremely brutal in an unfair and weird way, and is the hardest part in the game (especially on hardcore). That's a flaw.

But it's a game that seemingly is designed for multiple plays... Why blow their load on making a beginning section really slow and shit when you are going to have to do it multiple times?
@thegamingwolf3713 жыл бұрын
@@jamesduncan6729 it's just new game+, all that's different is you keep your weapon upgrades from the 1st playthrough. This isn't Nier Automata where you restart the game and there is actually new content with another story and all that or an open world title where you can just explore the world and do side missions at your own pace like skyrim, metal Gear or even Dark Souls. It's a semi linear survival horror action game. Plus, when you play a single player title first impressions count a whole lot.

I always play Hardcore on most RE games starting off, and It was a struggle with barely anything. Replaying the game with my new arsenal and getting back at the enemies was extremely satisfying. It makes sense how the tone of the game when playing as Chris switches to him just feeling almost omnipotent, this man, just like Leon has gone through hell and back in every way possible vs BOWs, and it really shows when in comparison to Ethan, even in the game you can tell, Ethan even trained struggles vs the Lycans when grabbed, meanwhile Chris literally right hooks the fuckers out of his face, as if it was annoyance more than a threat. Ethan turning out to be a mold and killing him off in this game when he just about got a personality is kind of sad, though. I admit. The ending is certainly better than most RE games, no obvious usual countdown, just a very emotional final fight to end the game, even the music. The emotion and tension in the fight is impressive, makes it feel like a dark souls boss.

It's crazy cuz I played blind on hardest mode available at the start and it took me like 4 tries to figure out what to do. It seems most people just think they can shoot their way out of any game and after my first death I went searching for some kind of area flag to trigger a scene. That didnt work so I tried to survive for a longer time, saw the hammer guy, got killed and was like "progress". The final time I just avoided Hammer Guy and boom, cutscene and on to the next part.

I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me on this, but having Ethan as a protagonist as opposed to playing as the original characters was refreshing. If CAPCOM still wants to continue pushing the franchise back to it's horror roots I personally think it's best that they keep making the main protagonist be an inexperienced survivor as opposed to using the original characters, who at this point are experienced badasses that are generally unfazed by the new BOWs they encounter. Chris's section pretty much shows a more realistic outcome when one of the more experienced protagonist of the franchise decides to take action against the BOWs, he comes fully equipped with weaponry and even has an paramilitary force to back him up, it's a far-cry from RE1 when he entered the mansion with nothing more than a handgun and he was thrown into an event that was completely out of his depth. I'm not saying CAPCOM should forget about the OG characters entirely, but I do find it difficult to think about how they could achieve a horror-like atmosphere when you are playing as a well-known badass with years of experience under their belts that do impressive feats that are borderline super-human at this point.
@12ealDealOfficial3 жыл бұрын
First, nice avatar (PoUr Me A dRiNk, BaRtEnDeR.) Second, it pains me to say this, but I agree. I just don't happen to like the character billed as the protagonist of the next game, who is supposed to be some kind of telepath/ teen superhero type. The only way I see Resident Evil becoming scary again is if it continues becoming "sim-ier." Capcom has already shown some cool attention to detail with the firearms in their games, what with the mag retention, press checks, reloading animations, and so on, but these are still games where zombie bites and wounds don't matter all that much, and ammunition is plentiful. The series should retain combat, focus more on exploration and puzzle solving, but make a smaller amount of enemy encounters matter more, with less ammo laying around, and absolutely no in-game economy. As Mikami said when directing the RE1: Remake, "Everything should be done for making the game more realistic." Maybe a bigger focus on atmospheric enemy sounds, more non-humanoid enemies (and only one or two humanoid enemies), and some even more realistic shooting mechanics (checking mag capacity manually, like in Condemned, etc).

I dunno, I liked most of the game, although I wish they'd go back to the series' horror roots. Lady D's castle and Donna's mansion were the closest to the OG RE vibe, but I enjoyed the village, the factory, and even Fishman's area wasn't THAT bad, although it was the weakest part, especially the boss fight. Honestly, for me, the gauntlet areas were the worst parts of the game because it's not survival horror at all, it's just an endless shooting gallery until you fulfill the required steps and it depletes your resources unless you know what to do. It's not scary having endless waves of enemies attacking you, it's just annoying. Chris's section was the least RE feeling, but at least they gave you tons of ammo and resources to handle the infinite enemies.

Tuning down the gore from re2make was a mistake. It felt like my shots did no damage at all at some points

RE3 Remake made this giant mistake too. RE Village doesn't even have gore as good as RE4. Really don't like how those zombies heads don't pop like the werewolves.

Same with the physics. All the deaths are just pre-baked animations. And they are constantly sliding around and clipping trough walls when they're dogging around you. Not really ''next gen'' imo.

finished the game last night, and I think this is pretty spot on for most things, especially in regards to the pacing (and the weird as fuck Chris shooting section right near the end, complete with enemies that will respawn forever unless you cross a certain trigger location)). it IS a good game, but it's got some serious flaws that stop it from being truly amazing

This RE is one of the best to speed run, with the 2nd remake probably being the best. You can literally skip the entire villagers cutscene and it takes all of 30 seconds to get through. You can get into the castle in the first 15 minutes or less.

The chris section has laser designator for one of his squad mates and the guy shouts at you about having to reload if you try to designate the location too soon. it's not an air strike. That being said the chris section is still weird to me. BSAA are using bio weapons and chris is full on working with Blue Umbrella. I know in "not a hero" he joins up with Blue Umbrella as a BSAA member to hunt down Lucas Baker. There is dialog where Chris says he doesn't trust blue umbrella and wants to know what they're up to. But it feels like they either forgot or straight up drop that plot line for RE Village. I feel like "IF" they do make dlc for Village they need to do some explaining what the hell Chris is doing. Because at this point i'm not sure this is the same Chris Redfield from the previous RE games.

Apparently this is the same Chris that was in RE5, judging from the Africa comment while he's with the squad. One other thing to remember is who the writers are. I think the lead writer is the Spec Ops: The Line guy; that game had some mind altering shenanigans in it. It was a huge red flag when Chris's healing items in the inventory are Umbrella labelled syringes closer to narcotics than, say, a first aid spray, a bottle of alcohol, or an herb. I think Chris will be a super soldier clone or brainwashed. The brainwashing thing would make sense given the note in RE2:R where Claire mentions that Chris is acting/ behaving nothing like her brother in that message he left for STARS.

I think there was a story in another media some time in the early 2000's (it is kinda fuzzy for me but i think it was a comic book) Right after the events of RE 1 Chris leaves a note for Claire to not get her involved, while he hunts down other umbrella sites to collect evidence and take them down for good. They would have to had done the clone/brainwashing after the events of 6 or 7. But i'm not sure if they consider the comic canon tho. The whole story line for RE games is spaghetti to me. I'm gonna have to do some fact checking after this. Edit: i checked the wiki for the letter and Chris and pretty much what i said minus the whole comic book thing... (i don't know why i remember there being a comic book)

@12ealDeal, Different Western writer for RE Village. That writer did Dead Space 1 dude... I do like that this Chris actually looks like RE5 Chris, but man do I miss Roger Craig Smith. Hoping for the clone or brain wash twist lol. This isn't RE5 Chris, even if they make boulder punching jokes.

I mean, it seemed to me that he's not really working for anyone in RE8. He basically takes control of the BSAA's Hound Wolf squad, and goes rogue with them. Whether he does that solely just to hunt down Miranda, or whether it was due to him losing faith in the BSAA, or even something entirely different. We just don't know yet. I'm personally intrigued by the whole BSAA using BOWs are soldiers, since they've mostly been portrayed as a good organization prior to RE8, so seeing them go as far as to use their own BOWs to fight other BOWs, well, I sure want to see why.

@@AliG200 His stuff being Umbrella branded is a big red flag that the writer's have something planned for him. They made that font extra big on his healing items.

I loved the Chris part ….was super atmospheric and going through the village your familiar with but in a different way…..I’ve competed the game on village of shadows difficulty and I would not say this part was a breeze at all ! I also beat the boss for this with out realising you could do the bomb locator thing until I got to VOS level 😅😅👍🏽👍🏽any way I lived this part and it’s the only time you see the village by night !
