As for the maintenance schedule, I don't think dji even know. As you said, I'd be safe to say to pull it apart and check everything every 500 hours and to replace the motors after 1000 hours. I don't think they even know yet. I haven't heard of any motors failing yet either now that I think of it.

It’s pretty unlikely, solid state brushless motors and equipment don’t really fail on their own, especially not without indication (friction, coil short, noise, heat) beforehand!

The CineSSD is actually an M.2 ssd in an enclosure with a proprietary controller and firmware (prevents upgrading ssd to larger version in the enclosure). When my i2/X5s was new just before launch, it was rock solid. No drifting, solid hover altitude, solid camera position. No horizon tilting even on yaw. After the 1st firmware update, it became much less stable. Using a V30 or V60 sd card helps a lot with stills and burst. I find myself using prores almost exclusively unless someone asks for cdng specifically. Prores gets the job done. Haven't gone to the x7 yet. Holding out for the i3 before dropping another 7k on camera and lenses.
@askyellowhouse
@askyellowhouse 5 жыл бұрын
Yes it is! We discussed this in our CineSSD reader video, where the 960 EVO is slower than the Thunderbolt 3 connection, so you’ll never exceed 17mbps read with the CineSSD. Interesting about V30/V60, we’ll have to look into that! We also have only used CinemaDNG for two gigs. Netflix (Black Summer) and a small movie filmed locally titled The Ballad of Audrey Earnshaw. Everything else is some flavour of ProRes.

One BIG serious issue that isn't mentioned here is the Dynamic Home Point feature, it's fine on the first flight after switching on and operating from a moving vessel however after carrying out a battery change, the DHP resets to off meaning your AC will want to prematurely RTH if you are traveling away from tour take off point. Has anyone else had this issue? I did report to Heliguy who said they would alert DJI but never heard anymore. My previous I1 was lost due to this and was so pleased that the I2 had this feature, why on earth would DJI let this default to off every time it's powered off. Only the skill of the vessel pilot saved the I2.

Not sure mate - If I'm using a 2nd op I leave the horizon to them :) really wanted to pick holes in your video but 95% of your "constructive comments" are bang on! I might have added. 1 The crystal sky's tendency to freeze randomly (requiring a full restart during flight) ... and.. the propensity for (proprietary!!) DJI SSDs to fail You've summarised almost all the flaws in the I2 though... it is a shame the I3 will cost as much as a Tesla @@askyellowhouse

I think the lack of a clearly defined maintenance schedule is the biggest issue, especially as the I2 is getting older now. I've had my I2 for several years now and it's been excellent every step of the way, but with every flight now I'm wondering just how close I am to needing some aspect of the drone serviced, or if I'm over that line. It's impossible to know, especially when not experiencing any perceptible issues.

Thanks Geoff! Why would anyone buy it? Well.... it’s still unrivalled for the price. The step above (a Freefly Alta or M600 with a MoVI hung underneath) would cost you twice as much, and any other offerings from other companies don’t even come close to the quality of the X7 and its control systems.

Wrong about the video transition as well! The video feed is directly from the inspire itself and ANYONE can pic it up using a field monitor with a set of antennas. We do this the odd time as an extra monitor for our visual observer so he know when the drone is taking off and when it is coming into his area. Only the controls are sent back and forth between the master and slave.

Not too sure the Transform Servo failing example given was the best- it was noted that the Drone was damaged due to a heavy knock with the case. I'm referring to the little pad lock icon top right of screen. after careful inspection I can see that when I tap the screen the lock icon changes to lock momentarily then back to unlock? It never use to do this. I tried using a tablet instead of the CS, just the same? any suggestions. Tony from Melbourne. It's not a big issue just annoying it's not perfect.

Yeah I don’t trust the stock antenna for long range flights... Crystalsky is several generations behind in terms of processing speed... it’s best to either add a fast device for better processing of the digital error correction and get a high gain direction antenna then use stock DJI equipment... always check HD page for rf interference noise floor to determine weather to switch to 2.4 ghz or 5.8ghz read your transmission quality and don’t go below 3Mbps to avoid pixelation of camera view... normally I take readings of the values to see my range while the drone is in the air before blindly filming your shoot... flying can be more reliable if you know your environment and what to improve in your equipment...

They never released the ground filming solution ie new osmo for X5s and X7, even after having it marked as coming soon on their website for almost 3 years now. Tracktenna never came. 4G/LTE connection was advertised and never came. The firmware is still terrible. DJI must have said "Good enough" and called it a day. It's a good system, but it could have been so much better had they actually cared enough to make it so. I won't purchase an Inspire 3 based on how this generation has been handled. I just can not believe how bad the propelers are i have purchase 4 inspire 2s they all failed propeller inspection ; my first inspire 2 the propellers only lasted one flight, and they where rattling; of couse i bought it as a toy and only flew sport mode off a mountain down to a beach 25,000ft away! and back; my 2 inspire2 was unacceptable out of the box no flights ; with no flight i had to change 2 motors, my 3 inspire 2 had the propler bases red locketed. and all 4 motor needed replaceing with about 10 flight; hunter open hang of dji is a piece of shit; i only fly carbonfiber props now because changing prop bases every 5 ;10 flights is crazy;

It’s better than the phantom 4 pro, I have had two drones now forward flip mid flight and crash with DJI admitting I’m not at fault the second one on its way now as a certified Australian REPL pilot I have no confidence in this product. Get your crap together DJI!!!

Your sd card that you are using is way too slow for raw burst or aeb shooting. That is why it is super slow. We use the much faster cards and it takes only about an extra 2 seconds after shooting AEB that it stops writing to the card and instantly we have full view again of the camera right after clicking the button. NOT a dji issue but a cheap memory card with very slow write speeds!
@askyellowhouse
@askyellowhouse 5 жыл бұрын
Interesting, cards this speed can handle our 24MP full frame digital cameras just fine at 6fps. We're gonna try a V60 card and see what difference that makes! ☺️

@Atlanticaerialworx 5 жыл бұрын
Yellowhouse Aerial cameras have onboard cash to wait for writing to cards so you can shoot sooner than later if cards are slow. X5s does not have more than the standard 8mb for basic meta data....the rest relies on card write speeds

Even with the problems, it’s still the only system in its class and price range that shoots high dynamic range 6K video in an integrated system. It could be better, but it’s still the best we’ve got.

by your comments about the inspire 2 makes you wonder how can someone buy that drone with all those problems, you are describing a product in early beta, products not ready for sale, those are the ones with as many problems as your inspire 2. why the hell would you trust that drone if it's giving you all those problems !! i dunno, this sounds very negative about the product, something like that would not even sale. people wouldn't buy it
