I'll admit Tokyo Drift is my one guilty pleasure from this series. It was different, and when they finally introduced a movie with all new characters, it felt fresh. like it was back to being a street racing movie again rather than just a crime drama.

Yes I know this is satire, but still: 3:46 1- those steering wheels are EXPENSIVE and if there’s other shit in that bag then it WILL get scratched up. 2- This is a very, very common style of modifying cars in japan. This is actually a pretty tame example. 3- Not a semen joke, he’s referring to a nosebleed (more or less the same idea though). It’s a japan thing, look it up. 4- There are actually car meets like this in japan, and a lot of them are actually in parking garages. I know this first hand, I’ve been to quite a few of them. 4:59 -Insurance gives you a big “fuck no” if they find out that you race. Also if they find out you race your health insurance goes WAY up too if it’s from the same company as your car insurance. 5:59 -fun fact, contrary to popular belief this stunt was NOT cgi. 6:38 -this is explained in a later movie (he used to smoke and tries to always keep his hands and mouth busy in an attempt to keep from starting to smoke again). 7:14 -yes, there are English-speaking schools for this very reason, but you’d be surprised how common it actually is for foreign kids to go to regular Japanese school. 7:28 -this was actually the case from the late 80s to the early 2000s. It was sort of an unspoken agreement between street racers and cops that so long as the street racers stoped racing if they came upon much of any traffic then the cops would leave them alone. Later on though (early 2000s) it was more of just that the cops reasoned that starting a chase to try and catch cars faster than them would put more people in danger than just letting them go. 7:38 -you don’t know the car community. 8:08 -again, it’s a japan thing, look up “kancho” and this will seem perfectly normal. 9:04 -depends on the tires you use and how much power your car has. Personally though I go through about 2-3 sets a month not including events. 9:16 -yes, this is actually how drifting was first invented, and yes, although there are technical aspects to drifting, you really do learn by feeling. It’s more akin to learning how to skateboard or ride a bike than it is to learning to to say play a musical instrument. 9:37 -Keichi Tsuchiya cameo (the guy in the blue jacket). He’s the real world Drift King (aka Dori Dori) and is commonly accredited with creating the sport of drifting in the first place. Look him up. 10:07 -it’s called tandems. It’s an actual thing and if fun as fuck. 10:10 -a lot of Japanese sports cars (dare I say most) are a 2+2 design (two doors with those tiny ass back seats that only midgets, small children, and double amputees can fit in). She probably hitched a ride with someone. 11:02 -drifting is almost always slower than gripping, UNLESS you either have very low traction in the first place (rain and ice), or you have a purpose built car with a welded diff. As you said though, the movie backed itself into a corner, but I’m guessing that these are all purpose built cars with welded diffs. 11:14 -you underestimate Japanese punctuality. 11:28 -nearly all the cars shown in this movie had roll cages, and all the cars that crashed in this movie were clearly shown to have roll cages 13:04 -linguistics 101. You pick up a language unbelievable quick when you’re constantly and fully immersed in it. 13:15 -the Mustang is a metaphor. American on the outside but Japanese at its heart (they swapped in the RB26 from Han’s S15, a legendary Japanese engine). 13:38 -nearly everyone who races has a home course, and the advantage you have when racing on your home course cannot be understated. 14:00 -technologically japan is 10 years ahead of the rest of the world. This was amplified in the 90s and early 2000s. 14:52 -on DK surviving, he would’ve been injured definitely, but as for surviving, again, roll cage. 15:29 -lawsuit prevention. You’d be surprised. Sin count should be 121. Again, I know it’s satire but this is one of my favorite movies of all time, I had to defend it. This is the movie (and initial D/wangan midnight of course) that got me into drifting and the Japanese car scene, and the Japanese car scene is one of the major things that inspired me to be minoring in Japanese in college, go on as many study abroads to japan as my college allows, and to be planning to move to japan after I complete my undergrad. So yea, I had to defend it by offering additional information and context to things that require some amount of knowledge about cars, japan, and cars in japan to fully understand and by making myself look like a know-it-all jackass in the process.

You are mistaken about cell phones in Japan. In 2006, Japan had streaming multicast cellular video. Yes, the resolution was low by today's standards, but you could call a group of people and show them what you see. So if someone was at a particular vantage point, they could show the race to everyone else. Japan used to be years ahead of the US in cellular connectivity. It was also difficult to NOT have reception if you were anywhere near Tokyo (including the mountains in and nearby the cities).
@ares_bluesteel

Well it is a lot easier to build a cell network in a country that's smaller than some US states, than the third largest country in the world
@thenumbers5351
@thenumbers5351 7 жыл бұрын
BLU3_S7EEL that isnt exactly right. it is easier to afford a cell network when all of your customers live close together. until recently, americans mived further and further from cities, whereas japanese moved closer and closer. if 90's and 00's americans had preferred cities to suburbs, they could have had more advanced cell networks and high speed internet too. also, japan is larger that most US states, being about 1/3 the size of cali, that makes it larger than about 40 states.
@prpredatorz310
@prpredatorz310 7 жыл бұрын
Even assuming this is accurate enough an explanation. The cameras in those phones would not be good enough to get anywhere near a decent enough image at that low of light to make out the cars. At best it would have been a blur of black and white pixels that resembled headlights

Jesus, explanating this is harder than explanating memes. This is why i love Jeremy tho.

Tokyo drift is my fav movie of all the F&F movies. Americans just weren't ready for what car scene waslike in japan when it came out. Now everyone is into the Japanese car scene. Also, this movie is accurate and believable about the car culture in japan because all of it does happen in japan. What about the F&F movie when they tried breaking into police station and dragging a vault around the city with 2 cars... that movie was pure 🤦‍♂️, at least Tokyo drift was based on true car events that do occur in japan.

Lmao I think you need to remember what year this movie was made in. Also in Japan they literally don't give two fucks what anyone thinks I've seen some pretty crazy looking mods in Japan they honestly don't care dude. Also the Mustang an Atrocity? That thing has an RB26DETT swap in it what the fuck are you talking about atrocity lol. It would be one thing if they swapped the V8 out for an RB, but the car had no engine in it anyway.
@briskxd1093
@briskxd1093 6 жыл бұрын
Lol you sound so fake dude. If you ever been to Japan you'd know Japan did have a faze like that and they still do now. They also do the same thing to lambo's with neons and body kits what makes you think they didn't do it to regular Japanese domestic cars lol. Also there's absolutely nothing wrong with putting a RB26DETT into a solid rear axle car and drifting it you act like a RB26DETT couldn't make the car go sideways also it's pretty obvious the car doesn't only have 300hp judging by the setup in the movie probably a bit more than that obviously. Also what do you expect? It's a Holly wood movie most people who watch F&F don't know shit about cars. I honestly couldn't really give two fucks about the movie or what you think about the movie as that's your opinion, but when it comes to cars like the mustang you thinking a RB26DETT mustang is some how atrocious sounds fucking retarded lol. Many people have done similar swaps with 2JZGTE's or 1JZ's into mustangs just to piss muscle heads off and I think this would be a good example of it lol. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWGwdYxvm9Fgf6M Here's a video of Japanese car culture in general. They also have neon Lamborghini's as well just like I said earlier in my paragraph. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gp-zkHykbZqmjdU Or even this.
@briskxd1093
@briskxd1093 6 жыл бұрын
Jay Pay I wouldn't really say educated as you think a 370hp RB26DETT swapped fast back is some how bad because of 1/4 mile times and weight. Also that's Okinawa what do you expect? Go to Tokyo. I think you're the one who needs to get educated as well. Also not to mention a fast back is not over 4000lbs lmao. A 1967 mustang came from 2,635lbs to 3000lbs depending on the motor. And considering they put a RB in there I'm guessing the weight is obviously lower than 3000. I'd also like to mention Japanese swing around stock JZX100's which weigh at 3,263lbs which come stock with a 1JZGTE engine with a power out put of 276bhp stock. So what makes you think a sub 3000lbs mustang with 370hp can't drift? Or it being "Practical". Also here's a video of a bone stock JZX100 drifting effortlessly skip to 10:00 to see I don't care if you don't watch it that's on you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5m4i2p5j7eWf7M And here's proof as well it's bone stock so don't try to make an argument out of questioning me. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5m4i2p5j7eWf7M

Loring - I hate to burst your bubble but drifting is NOT “racing”. Only on a dirt track is this style of driving the fastest way to get around the course. On asphalt however driving in this manner only slows you down, which means you are not going to win any races driving this way. Drifting is more about looking “cool” and thereby overcompensating for deep-seated insecurities than it is about getting around a track in the fastest time possible. Although it is fun to do as well of course.

Things you sinned that should not have been sinned: 1. About the cell phones: In Japan, mobile technology "evolved" on a different path than it did here in the US. Nearly every single cell phone in Japan is completely waterproof by default and have all the features of smartphones, despite still having flip phone bodies. 2. The fishermen (one is Keiichi Tsuchiya, the real Drift King) 3. That thing about cop cars (Japan has always had Skyline GT-Rs in their police car pool, since the R32) and they now have some R35 GT-Rs. 3.5. Also in Japan, police cars always have their light bars ON at night, even if not chasing someone (as a reminder that the law is ever-present). 4. The drift for a phone number thing: Of course that's how you get a number in a drifting community.

Rhys Taylor - That’s funny because I lived in Tokyo for 5-years in the 90’s and I never heard anything about this. And I’m afraid the enforcement of traffic laws is just way to strict in Tokyo for this type activity to occur there. I actually have a friend who used to be in one of those car gangs back in the late 70’s when they would form convoys consisting of hundred of members driving their highly (and stupidly) modified cars down back country roads - that is before the police finally started cracking down on this sort of activity. Even back then though I don’t think they would have tried coming into Tokyo because their cars would probably be impounding for being highly illegal. Today you might still find some people either drifting or racing on back country roads in Japan but you will not see this happening in Tokyo. Come to think of it, you would rarely, if ever, even see that kind of parking garage in Tokyo. Because land is so expensive in Tokyo most of the parking structures are actually like giant vending machines for cars. You drive your car onto a ramp and then a machine inserts it into a slot somewhere in the structure. There is no place to actually drive or even to walk in the structure however.

Well, I just did a search as you suggested but I did not see a single car “drifting” around corners in a parking garage in any of the events I saw. And lets face it, “drifting” or racing in parking structures in Tokyo, like in the movie, is what this whole argument was about to begin with. Furthermore, ALL of these parking structures are on the far outskirts of Tokyo and are not in Tokyo proper, just as I suspected. It might be possible to get away with some racing in this particular area but I doubt if any of the Japanese guys would try it and risk having the police crack down on the events. And frankly, the retarded modification on a lot of these cars would render them unstable and unsafe for racing or even "drifting".

That’s not necessarily true. A good example is rallying, where cars are basically drifting constantly. While what you said is technically true, it can actually be quicker and safer to drift on loose terrain compared to slowing down drastically before turning because of how impossible it could be to stop efficiently on sand and whatnot. Drifting makes it possible to maintain your momentum and maintain a decent amount of speed and control. btw, I am not a professional driver or physicist but I have done a decent amount of both in academic/semi-competitive situations

There is actually, as a cameo appearance, although its not the Trueno, but the Levin. But its still the white panda AE86 as paying homage to Initial D as the inspiration of this film. BTW the cameo is when Sean have a battle with the guy with a yellowish black 350Z, a drifting scene in one of the apex of the parking building, you can see it parked there. There is also a cameo appearance of the game called Wangan, where Sean is drifting in a public highway to the bridge.

Man, you were reaching deep in this one. This is a great example of a non car guy critiquing car stuff which he clearly doesn't understand. And so many of these "sins" can be easily explained. For example 3:32, the sin is that Sean makes it to school without getting lost.. Yet in the actual movie, he literally just says he's sorry for being late and got the wrong train.. Heck, in the deleted scenes you can even see why he got the wrong train. This cinema sin episode is just plain bad.

The truck is actually a Dodge Ram SRT-10, which has an 8.3 L V10 (same engine as a Viper), and it set the world record for the world's fastest production truck. It should be able to keep up with the Viper (same engine) and the Monte Carlo without struggling. +2 sins for CinemaSins for not figuring that out.

It wouldn't be out of place because it's in Japan and there's drifting involved; whether you like it or not - Initial D is an iconic franchise.
@Speedstar235
@Speedstar235 7 жыл бұрын
But you don't get yakuzas or life-threatening situations in Initial D except that one time a Bosozoku gang was involved. Initial D was about a talented delivery guy realizing his potential behind the wheel and simply races people to be better. Tokyo Drift was about a guy being dropped into a sport and car culture he's totally oblivious about and ends up in a conflict involving a Yakuza's nephew who more than willing to fight dirty, on or off the mountain. The atmosphere's completely different which is why I said eurobeat won't fit. The live-action Initial D movie is a good example where eurobeat would fit because of the premise. Edit: The real Drift King and the author of Initial D cameo-ing was enough of a reference for the movie.
