QT's 8th film, if you use his math, The Hateful Eight still has plenty of sins.
Thursday: Sins of something not remotely as unwholesome as this.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

Sins jump from 29 to 31 then to 33 without extra dings. 34 to 36, 38 to 40, 51 to 48?, 48 to 54, 59 to 55?, I'm choosing to believe this is a covert homage to Tarantino's disordered time story telling technique.

I dislike when probabilities in movies are being questioned, like, two people meeting each other in the middle of nowhere. If the universe has taught me anything - it is that anything is possible. And the whole point of a movie is to tell an interesting story, not a bland one.

There are actually several completely different accents in England. They are as different as say, any American and Australian accent . Roth here opts for the only 2 that are familiar to Americans, standard upper class posh one and cockney (London). Newcastle, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester accents sound completely different to these but they are pretty much never heard outside the UK, probably because audiences might complain they can't understand them.

In regard to Minnie's convenient hatred of Mexicans: note how, in the flashback of the gang arriving, Minnie doesn't object to Bob's presence or treat him any differently. My main one is when he is doing "pet sematary", and he sins it for them "misspelling the word 'cemetery'". Even though, if youve read the book, or know ANYTHING about the book, you would know that it IS purposely misspelled that way. Loved the movie actually. Fun fact about this movie. It was originally planned to be a sequel to Django Unchained. Samuel Jackson's character was originally meant to be Django but then Tarantino realized that having Django in the film would ruin the movies atmosphere of not being able to trust anybody. If Django was in the film you'd be rooting for him the whole time because we already know his story. Instead they were all made to be strangers so you'd being thinking nobody was off limits from being the liar.

Dennis Reynolds Filmmaking is a collaborative experience, very true
@jaspberg
@jaspberg 8 жыл бұрын
+Dennis Reynolds that's exactly it. Pulp fiction is dialogue heavy, but the dialogue still serves as character development in addition to entertainment. for instance, the foot massage debate seems inane and pointless to some, but it's elaborating on Vincent's thoughts about how the boss man's wife should be treated with respect to the boss man. That makes it more interesting later when he dances, shares food, touches, and almost has sex with Mia, even though he iterated early that Tony Rockamora deserved to be thrown out of a window just for touching her feet. the dialogue in hateful 8 is just too repetitive, and hardly ever reveals anything interesting about the characters.

1) If I go to the cinema I want to see an actuall movie and not a stage play. There are good chamber play-movies out there (12 Angry Men, e.g.) but Tarantino doesn't use any of the possibilities the film-medium has to offer. So make it a stage play instead. 2) The aesthetic of the violence in this movie is horrible. It's just brutal to watch it. Django Unchained's violence is different. 3) Morricone made the score. Sadly we don't hear any Morricone for almost the hole movie. 4) Django Unchained is a beautiful Homage to the Spaghetti Westerns (even with awesome references to the original Django from 1966). The Hateful 8 isn't. - That's my opinion. I hope it was not completely subjectively argued. I can accept different opinions.

@Nico Schmidt Thank you a lot. I like your perspecitve on the movie. The feeling of being trapped is something a stage play could make you feel, too, I guess. But you're right it could be really intense in a movie and this really is a possibility of the film-medium Tarantino used effectively. Sometimes I like if the shown violence also hurts me as the viewer (e.g. The Neon Demon is fu**ing brutal but awesome) but in The Hateful 8 I didn't like it. I guess I'm also too nostalgic about the western genre in general. Again thank you for the good discussion. :-)

6:20 It's entirely possible that Marquis is bullshitting and everything we see of him leading the general's son through the snow only transpires in the general's head. The transition between the CU on Smithers and the shot of his son performing sexual favors is a clue. 7:00 The narration was there because the 70mm theatrical version went to intermission after the big black dingus scene. As for the odd accent on Tim Roth's character, that's explained in the flashback. He puts on that accent because his natural accent is more working-class, like his character in Pulp Fiction.

Of course that didn't really happen. It was to make the general draw a gun, which allowed Jackson to kill him in "self defence". Otherwise, it would be murder. He wanted a way to murder him and get away with it. Jackson's character probably just shot the son in an exchange of gun fire.

3:07 You omitted the part where Mannix threatens John with the possibility of being responsible for the future sheriff's death. You can call him stupid for believing Mannix here, but he didn't let him on the stagecoach just to be kind.

Kind of pointless though. It's in the 1800s. People used a LOT of racial slurs in that time. Sinning a movie for its historical accuracy is kind of weird.
