@@3nertianah, you have to also take in the number of wheat fields and multiply that with the area of screen they take up, multiply that time by the amount of time fields are shown, take a drink of soda for dramatic effect. Take that number and divide it by two, then multiply it by two, then multiply that times 100 and divide that buy the number run time minus the credits run time… and then take that number and subtract it by itself, then adding 100, then multiply that by .75 to get 75%… all while sipping a soda, and after hitting “equal”, slowly putting down the soda and saying “My God.... Honestly grading a tornado based on damage has always been kinda stupid. There have been "EF2s" that have leveled towns and were labeled EF4 and there have been tornados with "EF5" wind speeds that were declared has EF1 or even EF0 because they landed in open fields causing minimal damage. The tornados themselves still produced a certain amount of windspeed and core coverage and should be based on that like hurricanes are. Maybe there should be two scales one for damage and one for wind speeds.
@DiafolMedrus
@DiafolMedrus Ай бұрын
@@darkworlddenizen This. They need to simply classify them based on wind speed. We've had Cat 4 and 5 Hurricanes that got outclassed by 3's. Doesn't make it any MORE than a 3, and doesn't make them any LESS than a 4 or 5, they just hit areas that didn't take as much damage.

He secretly follows her (for miles) to her home. He walks into her barn (while she's alone)to talk to her late at night. Her mom lets this same stranger sleep over. It's interesting that it occurs to me how "Twisters" has the intrigue of the fact that it has little to no sense of "Legacy" to try to use in it's efforts to prop it up. Not much in the way of returning actors, imagery or quotable lines, very much like "Mad Max: Fury Road". It's what separates later follow ups like this to stuff like "The Force Awakens" or "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" which both try so desperately to use whatever bit of nostalgic connection they can to elicit interest or even the recent "Gladiator II" trying to use even the connecting tissue of a dead character and beats from the previous film to drive its own self.

The problem with these tornado movies is that they're all about people excitedly rushing towards the tornadoes, so the tornadoes never really seem scary. At least in Wizard of Oz the characters acted terrified by the tornado, and that made the tornado feel scary for the viewers.

Drying out a tornado won't work. Suckers hit forest fires making fire tornadoes on occasion and they don't slow down and the moisture content definitely drops.

Tornadoes like in the movie result from a supercell thunderstorm, the tornadoes in wildfires are from the atmosphere in the fire it’s more of a dust devil that is a lot stronger and has flames than an actual tornado but overall there 2 completely different things

I think her hypothesis was that when a toranado forms over water, it is called a water spout. When these then move over land, they don't last long or are as destructive as regular tornados. The trouble with shooting a bunch of drying agent into a tornado is that you still have to get the material inside the tornado and then deal with it as it falls out over a wide area. It is never a good idea to spray material (solids or liquids) into the air because it will spread. In the case of a tornado, it will spread for miles. Who is going to clean up several square miles of chemicals because of one terrible science experiment?
@jrodh
@jrodh Ай бұрын
Hi I have a degree in meteorology. So actually her hypothesis in the end is that causing the moisture in the air to condense into water and then absorbing it with her polymer thingy, will cause evaporation to occur which cools the air and increase the intensity of the RFD (rear flank downdraft) of the supercell which is critical for tornado formation and longevity. The RFD has to be just the right strength for the tornado to survive so increasing it will actually cut off the updraft suppling the tornado, killing it. :)
@somethin_cool493
@somethin_cool493 Ай бұрын
@@jrodhthe average thunderstorm contains around 275 million gallons of water. You'd need an impossible amount of absorbent sucked into a tornado to have any effect anything. Her hypothesis is shit.

That's why the goal was to dry out the parent supercell using the tornado as a vehicle to loft the chemicals high enough to do the work.

Well some of those sins are definitely unfair (thats like half the point though), but there are some other ones not mentioned. For instance, Doppler radar cannot tell you the ground-level windspeed, only a few thousand feet up. Secondly, EF5 is 201mph+. 200 would be EF4. Third, when they say the Doppler doesnt show a storm until later, that is illogical. Doppler scans the atmosphere, it doesnt predict anything. We can assume they meant that models dont show one. Also, storms cannot fight over inflow. A storm merger can happen and choke off the inflow of one, but they cannot fight over one inflow. Also, the sensors could not have shot up 70,000 feet. Supercells top out at around 60,000 and even the strongest tornadoes very rarely loft debris above 40,000.
@LupeCoded

Exactly! While it was an entertaining movie at some points, the number of scientific inaccuracies really took me out of the experience. Also, that random Ef4 creeping up on them while they were at the rodeo without there being any warning was eye roll-inducing. I'm sorry.

@@LupeCoded These Tornado's lift things that are a ton yet a normal human has very little trouble walking. Just a little wind resistance. Zero attention to the shade of the Tornado. I grew up in Mississippi and they have found pine needles stuck in trees after tornados. Pine needles!

They used the town of El Reno, Oklahoma (where 3 professional storm chasers died: Team Twistex), the town that was pummeled by an EF5 tornado on 5/24/2011 that had radars measure winds of 295 MPH. Then there is 5/31/2013, where a tornado was rated EF3, upgraded to EF5, and downgraded to EF3 three months later with winds measured at 296-313 MPH BUT, became the biggest tornado ever in the record books in world history. It killed Team Twistex, and reached a peak width of 2.6-miles wide!
