Anyone buying a boat from a photo will learn a life changing lesson from your video , all that glitters is not gold and all that. Thank you. A really helpful video.

I have MSS looking for a boat for me currently, after seeing this I’ll be giving it a damn good going over before I buy it from them! You paid an awful lot of money for this boat and most of these jobs should have been done before they let it leave them!
@DavesBoat2 жыл бұрын
That would appear to be good advice for any broker
@andrewp6342 жыл бұрын
Its most likely a brokerage boat, it is not up to MSS to do the jobs, i don't think you understand how brokerage works, same as buying a house, the estate agent don't fix the broken things.
@DavesBoat2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewp634 This was indeed a stock boat purchased by MSS but you are true in the case of a simple brokerage.

@@andrewp634 so if wires were hanging out of the fuse board you don’t think they would be addressed before sale? You are wrong and i can’t believe you are defending mss

@@andrewp634 it was a stock boat! Obviously a brokerage boat would be the owners responsibility but thank you for the estate agent comparison 🤷🏼♂️🤣

Wow, She is a beautiful boat even with the flaws of age. Looking forward to all of your videos on how you fix those things. FYI Boatworks today has a video specifically on how to redo the caulking of teak decks.
@DavesBoat2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've watched a few videos on re-doing and I may end up doing just that but first I need to do some exploration as to how much actual teak there is left there so I need to sand it back and carefully do a thickness measurement (really small drill hole)
@garrym092 жыл бұрын
@@DavesBoat I would say remove a piece of the caulk and check the thickness there as you can replace the caulk easier than patching a drilled hole.

When we looked at the videos from marine sales scotland they said they go through their boats with a fine tooth comb and address all of the issues. Looking at this means that they do not which I am surprised at. This is an added cost to you. I would not be happy at all with marine sales Scotland. Maybe they should show all of these faults on their boats when they make their sales videos instead of making out the boats are perfect. Which they did with this boat. It was apparently immaculate. And they sold something potentially electrically dangerous. What are your thoughts?
@DavesBoat2 жыл бұрын
They certainly didn't show all the bad bits but then no sales person ever unless you push them. There are a couple of issues particularly with the cleaning which as you pointed out they claimed was done MSS are addressing this so I didn't want to make a big fuss about it and instead focus on bits that I accepted would need doing.
@jjdebruyne2 жыл бұрын
@@DavesBoat I am an electrician of many years. I do not install domestic sockets outside. They should have been disconnected before sale 100% when there is risk to life which that is. I have watched all of marine sales scotland videos. The least they could do is pay for these rectifications. I am not sure whether they do full safety certificates before sale. But I am sure they must do and the non IP sockets is a major safety concern and would have failed any test
@DavesBoat2 жыл бұрын
@@jjdebruyne If you're being massively fussy and strict on safety yeah (the fire extinguishers were also a year out of date too) but these are both things I was happy to deal with myself as I'm both aware of the risks and the correct resolutions. Relating directly to the sockets there's no BSS or safety cert on the boat and I don't know their policy on things like those but I identified the issue and have a couple of ip rated sockets ready to fit when I get chance already.
@jjdebruyne2 жыл бұрын
And I will make a fuss for you due to electrical safety! You have paid a lot of money for this boat. You would expect it to be safe
@jjdebruyne2 жыл бұрын
@@DavesBoat but surely these are safety issues that should be addressed before sale. Especially when the boat is listed as near perfect. It’s like me buying a car from a dealer without knowing the airbags don’t work but they knew but didn’t tell me. I know you will address the issues but you shouldn’t need to address any safety issues. The catches etc yes but safety no. I will end my rant about this now. I am happy for you buying this boat. Can’t wait to see your videos in the future

Hi Dave Did you have a survey done or is that not necessary for a stock boat, as opposed to a brokerage boat. PS hope all went well on the Jubilee Flotilla run
@DavesBoat2 жыл бұрын
MSS did a survey when they purchased it so seemed pointless having another one done so soon but it appears that it was mostly a mechanical survey

What's the engine bay and engines like?
@DavesBoat2 жыл бұрын
Bigger and smaller at the same time, there's room once you're in, getting in is ... Complicated. The engines considering they are tamd74's run sweet as they're quiet and smooth and zero smoke they've got just under 900 hours on them so I'm told but so much nicer as an engine than the kad32's my main dislike with the engines is the on and out of gear delay on the Volvo evc controls it's quite horrible
