i want to add :) things you don't notice in MAMA every MAMAMOO appearance: 1. MAMA will never feel complete without MAMAMOO 2. Every MAMAMOO appearance is a legend in Kpop 3. Every idol is always amazed by MAMAMOO's live performance. Always. You can watch on fancam or even videos of idol reactions to MAMAMOO. 4. The audience will never get bored with every MAMAMOO performance because they always invite the audience to dance and sing together. Only ARTIST can create this atmosphere. (You can see in the 2018 MAMA video, how thousands of people screamed at their appearance) 5. They are legends. That's it. I think it's okay that they didn't win "Best Girl Group", because they were more than that. They are, 'THE BEST GROUP OF WOMEN.' STAN MAMAMOO. STAN TALENT. :)

honestly tho, even when I first watched the performance, it was really obvious the backup dancers weren't synced and just overall messy. were they not the usual backup dancers or something? but mamamoo made it work.

If you watch previous stages and the members solo songs (And the latest group songs ‘Hip’ , ‘Dingga’ & ‘Aya’) the dancers on Mama were different from the usual dance group

Yup, Mamamoo's usual dance crew is the Bessie dance crew but because the awards are in Japan, it costs too much to fly all of them out, so they hire dancers from Japan. They don't get a lot of time to learn and practice the choreo (I believe Mamamoo said the first time the dancers danced with them was at the rehearsal, so I don't really blame them for being messy, but yeah Mamamoo is definitely more comfortable with their own dance crew. Only Hyojung (purple hair in the performance of the new rules) goes because she is the leader of the dance team and has to teach the choreo to the Japanese dancers.

I noticed the backup dancers mismatched speed also, and my theory for that is that their audio came from different sources? Mamamoo has their in-ears where they can hear the music clearly, but the dancers might be listening to the speakers on stage which might make it a little off (which is usually not noticeable, but in the dance break where the beats are a lot faster, that's where you see the difference?)
