Thanks. Senior citizen age 75 and almost everyday I do a 20 ft tree rope climb for exercise. Use 1/2 inch rope or 3/8 . Use tree saddle or rock climbing saddle. Use rollnlock for ascender and notch foot ascender. Or if I want upper body exercise use rollnlock, grigri and pulley. Am only climbing 20 feet front yard tree but I consider it to be a daily adventure. Thanks for your post.

If you're a recreational climber, you can simply climb using a high quality, light weight rock climbing harness. Bench style saddles are pretty terrible for climbing 3-dimensionally AKA doing limb walks and moving out on limbs. They are great for moving 2-dimensionally, though, so mostly just up and down. No need to spend $200 as suggested in this video. A fully rated, well manufactured rock climbing harness won't cost more than $60-100. If you want to do this professionally, definitely don't skimp on your harness/saddle. An arborist saddle with side AND lower D's is ideal. As for an arborist rope that is great for both MRS and SRS, I personally would suggest the Drenaline by Teufelberger at 11.8mm diameter. For a lanyard, just buy a length of rope by the foot from an arborist supply store, two carabiners (triact gates are best, but screw gate will suffice for rec climbers), an eye to eye friction cord, and an inexpensive slack tending pulley. At this point, you already have all you need to climb MRS with a closed system using a Blake's hitch tied with the tail of your rope (important to note that closed systems usually work best with 12-16-strand ropes). If you want to climb SRS recreationally, look into a RADS as it is a great place to start as a new climber and requires only a few cheaply available devices and components. If you want to do this professionally, I would suggest a rope wrench system. Specifically, the Notch Fusion Flow combo which is a) the most affordable complete rope wrench system (minus the eye to eye you'll need for tying a hitch), b) extremely well manufactured and adjustable at the wrench's bollard (first to introduce this feature to the industry), c) has a slack tending pulley already installed on it, and d) run super smoothly on a rope. Just buy a foot ascender and buy, or even make, a knee ascender and you're 100% ready to start rope walking, which is easily the most advanced and modern SRS climbing technique. Those are my suggestions. Tree climbing gear is super expensive and so I can appreciate anyone who is looking at the prices and feels overwhelmed.

Weaver cougar saddle was my first saddle and to be honest one of the most comfortable. That might be another option for people to look at if they are testing the waters. I sometimes regret the amount of $ I’ve spent on unnecessary equipment 😂

Cool thanks for sharing, The thing is that some equipment lasts a long time so you might use it on certain climb or project.

Edelrid treerex is about 500 and ive seen it down around 370 sometimes. Very lightweight for a prosaddle apparently. It can be a little less than optimal if your lugging a large bucking saw. Its quite suitable for typical ground saws and obviously climbing saws. For me it is very comfortable and works great. I reccomend it though ive not used other saddles enough to really compare it to.

Petzl avao is the cheapest "modern" harness. Some people don't like it but i haven't had any problems with it. If your nuts are getting crushed, you have the back straps on the leg loops too tight.

I enjoy Bino’s content delivery camera work but i too enjoy all the Monday morning quarterbacks who curiously omit a plug for their KZbin channel….because they don’t have one 🤣

You missed rope bag and kit bag, proper way to store equipment etc

Good point we were doing our best have least expensive options. What I used to do was when my sons updated their back pack I would use them as climbing bags.

@@BinoH that’s a good idea, I recently purchased a mountain designs 120L duffle roller for around $189 on sale Your paying a bit more but you don’t have to lug all your equipment, my husqvana rope bag fits in there with my harness and everything

Another option is a 5 gallon bucket with a tool organizer. ~$20 total for bucket and organizer. Fits 150 ft of 1/2"

Rope can just be stored in a Rubbermaid storage box. Same with your other gear. An expensive pack is for professional climbers

I wanted a saddle bag then one day I used my molle backpack. My pulleys and extra prusiks stay dry on the outside. Extra carabiners, shackles, rescue stuff, all clipped to the outside. I've never used a saddle bag, but I can't imagine it's any better than a backpack. My throwbag, drone, a couple tools my files and guides, extra glasses all go in a second bag with a place for my phone and cigarettes. I would argue that you only need a saddle bag if you have to carry stuff 2 miles in the rain
