Boom Bap was started by Marley Marl when he sampled individual drum sounds and re-programmed the drum break. Before that, entire drum breaks were used which is why most songs had similar swing and feel.

There are some holes in the reporting (missing critical information ) that if filled would've added more value to your video Right.. Like the Roland TR-808 drum machine which played a huge part in Hip-Hop's Boom Bap before the MPC & SP 1200 ok Boogie Down Production is Boom Bap which predates Dilla, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Marley Marl is an Iconic Legendary producer of Boom Bap. Mantronix also is someone who is influential in Boom Bap. I could go on you get the Picture tho. Love the fact you're doing these videos. Do more intensive research & your channel will be the stuff of legend.

First wave Bronx-style hip hop. Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, Sugarhill Gang, Kurtis Blow, Run DMC, Funky 4+1, LL Cool J, etc. Those were the big names before NWA made gangsta rap mainstream. Boom Bap was a continuation of that, but just on the east coast, especially in the projects where the crack epidemic was at its peak.

They both evolved from old school HipHop and are closely related but G-funk is different from what’s called Boom bap, boom bap is mostly driven by the kick as bass or the boom and a crunchy snare on the 2 & 4 that’s the bap with a drum sampled from drumbreaks with a certain swing, G-funk is often with live instrumentation or definitely a synth bass and uses computer drums with a different Groove. If G-Funk is just a different subgenre of boom bap what’s the name of the subgenre of that actually is boom bap ?
