Also the D5 engine, for example, has a lot of torque, so don't need to be revved. So very regularly hold a gear in manual and drive for a bit at 4000 revs. I do this at least once a week.

Volvo mechanic advised to drive for 20 min or so with engine speed over 3000rpm, had to do it recently and warning cleared ok,
@ianholmes8790 Жыл бұрын
I had similar advice. But with engine speed between 2000 / 2500

Thanks for this. I had a major panic when the ‘soot filter’ warning light came on followied by the ‘engine service’ light ! There also seemed to be a loss of power. I immediately thought this is going to be expensive. A quick view of your video and a twenty minute drive on the motorway later both lights are off and the V70 is behaving as it should. I’m a long time watcher of DriveLife and enjoy your content immensely. PS. Caspian Blue is easily the best colour for a P3 😉

Buy a petrol car to cause no issues if you do low mileage..orbuy a diesel and do low mileage and then take it on a 30 mile drive to unblock it 🤣
@tripitakab92972 жыл бұрын
So in the past year, my Volvo has had 3 split turbo pipes, wihch causes the DPF to clock and not regen, I do 6-800 miles a week on long runs, just had another hose go, so is the DPF causing the pressure issue and split? or split causing the filter to clog?
@emmacarina733 жыл бұрын
Drove for 30 mins gown the motorway in 4th at 4000revs and turned around and drive back same fashion... cleared the engine warning message so all sorted. Thanks

But what if i got the 'ECM-242F - Particulare trap blocked' error on Vida, but the pressure senzor from the dpf is showing normal values is it ok to do a forced regen? The car is a 2010 S40 2.0D with only 140k km on board.

It would have been useful if you showed us the part with the hood up for those of us that are not technically good with cars.

Im sure i remember reading somewhere that Volvo recommend full operating temperature and then 15 minutes at over 3000 rpm to trigger the regen......
@dhus364 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. So a normal drive on the highway (20+min ) should be enough if I understand (it's at 2000 or more rpm anyway). Pushing to 3000+ rpm and sustaining that is notneeded? Don't have DPF problems nromally even though some months ago I did get a warning on technicla contorl that it's a bit clogged. Just trying to keep it in order not to face issues.

Great helpful explanation,going for a long drive now.. thank you.

A DPF ONLY filters soot particulates! It has no effect on CO or CO2 and NOx emissions! (unless it is totally clogged, when you will know it - the engine won't work). And btw - why didn't you use ring spanners on the diesel filter change?! Even open-ended spanners must be better than sockets!
@tellyonthewall87513 жыл бұрын
Not if the socket is the "6-sided" type .. then it's best

When coolant reaches 90 degree of celsius oil is still cold (not more than 40 degrees of celsius)
@szittyakurt3 жыл бұрын
Not cold, but not at operating temp too. Around 70, or at least 60. My d5 gets to operating coolant temp in 5-6 km traffic driving. oil is about 70. Another 5 and it gets to 80-90, thats when i get on the autobahn and i can floor it from 70 to 150.

I manually cleaned the EGR valve the other day had smoke on hard exel and did a regen she worked fine till the other day! Had a long trip on the M40. I had a good 2-hour trip with Wheight and as we made it the car went in to limp mood and had to drive home in that mood now stuck in limp mood (2900 RPM) i had the regen time there and had Black smoke i have read the dpf on car cleaner and now thinking of that will it help to clean my dpf? if not will i need to get a dpf replace or is there still hope?

Diesel cars usually come equipped with an indash electrical heater ,so that is not a way to check if coolant temperature is up. I would also like to point up two things : 1.For the regeneration process to start,car must have at least a quarter of fuel left in the gas tank. 2.Even if you take your car out in the motorway when you have the chance,regeration process will not engage if the car has not reached the maximum soot quantity as for the dpf sensor to tell the car to start regeneration. Of course that every motorway run will do good to your car.It is recomended to have weekly motorway runs . It must have a steadu 80km/h because that is the speed considered to be only achieved outside the city where co2 particles can safely be released into the air,so that humans inside the city will not inhale it.
@hermanmunster33583 жыл бұрын
My Volvo does not have an electrical heater. It may be an option to specify when buying a new car, but I have not seen it myself. Also, Co2 is a gas, we are talking about carbon deposits here, which are solids, different thing altogether. 80kmh equates to 50mph. The speed you are travelling is not really relevant, as you can perform a dpf regen while driving at 30moh in 2nd gear for 20 minutes or more, as this will be approx enough to bring the rpm up to 4000, which is the requirement to trigger the regen process, not that you would travel at 30mph in 2nd gear long enough to perform the regen. But just to be clear, it's about the engine speed, not the speed you are travelling.
@endurocrosser88343 жыл бұрын
Herman Munster This here,you are wrong. The car is smart enough to know you travel with 80 km/h so it will engage the dpf regen process.I dont’t think you can fool a Volvo just by adapting the revs and not the speed. Just considering options like adaptive cruise control, revs matching,autobraking and emergency braking sistem(the one that depresses the brake pedal to the floor for you just by a light pressure on the brake pedal after long distance travel at cruising speed.The car considers that if you did not press the brake pedal for a while,the must be a danger on the road like an unexpected obstacle: ball,person,pot hole amd fir Sweden..Moose :).Be sure to know that the car knows at what speed you are traveling in every moment. Did you know that awd models after cruising at 60 mph or in that speed range for quite a while without sudden acceleration and braking,it disengages the awd system and transfers all power to the frint drive train for fuel economy? Of course when accelerating ,the instant traction haldex kiks in in a fraction of a second and...awd again. Enjoy Your Volvo Volvo for life!

My volvo v50 has fuel-driven preheating. can that increase the chance of soot clog? I have the dpf problem today.
@endurocrosser88343 жыл бұрын
yongjie wang No! Not a chance! The fuel driven pre heater has its separate exhaust system and it interfears with the car just thru draining fuel from the car’s fuel tank. It can only discharge your central battery,bu only if it’s low on power.

@hermanmunster33583 жыл бұрын
Which cars do not have a temperature gauge? Every car that I have come across has some sort of gauge, whether digital, or analogue, to let you know when the car may be overheating for example. They are an essential instrument on every car, I would have thought. Not sure if they are required on EV's, but certainly required on I.C.E. vehicles.

Unfortunately the only reason of dpf filters existence is to break the engine and cause lots of problems. The do not make cars cleaners. The regeneration process is burning the soot into the Ash but the still burn it aren't they? So what is the difference if the car is burning it on a a regular basis if it doesn't have dpf or if it is burned in a regeneration process every week? There's no difference for ecology. But there's a difference in your engine reliability. If the process of regulation will start and you press brake pedal it will be aborted and all diesel that was used to burn the soot is returning into the crank case of your engine and mix with your oil. So every process that is not finished simply top ups your engine oil with the diesel. I had 120% of oil once. But I have to say not anymore 😅
@felicjanrybka43963 жыл бұрын
It's stupid that it stops once you press the brake pedal. On Friday I've had 130% of oil so this Thursday I'm getting rid of this problem once and for all :D Also because of the additional oil and pressure in the crank case some of the gaskets started leaking...
@littlereptilian75803 жыл бұрын
Nice to know that. Is it really that bad?
@felicjanrybka43963 жыл бұрын
@@littlereptilian7580 yes, if it goes on for long your oil rings can get worn and your engine will start to burn oil. So it's something that has to be taken care of quickly once detected
@littlereptilian75803 жыл бұрын
@@felicjanrybka4396 im going to change the oil tomorrow. I will fill the additive also , i hope my obd2 scanner can reset the additive tank. Ive had a new dpf filter today .
