I like what I'm seeing so far, for the most part. Very happy they added a painted option, which I will definitely be doing. As far as negatives, I think they leaned way too heavily into the pirate theme, and it's weird that they split it up among different factions and races. I'd have preferred something more cohesive like we got with elves, vampires, samurai, etc. Also concerned about Shiori being seemingly impossible to get if you aren't going to GenCon or a local tournament, which I won't be.

I'm hoping future releases have some more cohesiveness that add to the existing and new worlds. Shiri will also go to retail a few months after promotional release, so thankfully you should be able to get it then.

The original Age of Annihilation master set was going to have a lot more variety in the figures. They cut down the number in this new version likely to make it more affordable. They already have some other factions ready to go for later releases. Some steampunk animals, cyborg war monstrosities, and some guys who have familiars (think like spirit animal bonding stuff).

@@yannpns2943 the game has some pre released sets for those attending gencon, but it's said that the street date for the sets is August 29. Wave 2 was recently announced, and they had some presence in gencon. Renegade also posted any small updates on their website as well. Hope that helps!

They work great for that. The original master set's figures (The Rise of the Valkyrie) are still really affordable, and have a variety of useful pieces to mix together.

I’m surprised they didn’t just do an entire reboot considering this franchise has been dead for so long and it doesn’t appear that they’ll be rereleasing the older sets. And compared to the original master sets this feels underwhelming to me like the minis featured in this don’t grab me like the old ones did.

Most of the figures seem pretty balanced, and I would argue are more equalized compared to the original run. I think interest in the old sets will definitely open up, as the old figures aren't required to enjoy the new ones, but they do open some really fun synergies, like Loviatak working with the original Minions of Utgar, or running Greenscales with Xenithrax.

@@zaddyxyborg9873 It really depends on preference. The old master sets have some units that would be fun to pair with these units. (like the Viking champions for the bears), but most act as more stand alone characters, and gives you fun kits to play with and expand. I think some units that would work really well with the released figures are the axegrinders (who work well with Dorim), Microcorp Agents (who work well with water placement), and the aforementioned Greenscales and Minions. Those are common units, so typically you'd want multiples in an army, so I'd definitely look into proxy/or 3d prints for them. Might make a video discussing this now, it's a good topic I'd like to go more into detail with!

Why Revna instead of Valkril??

Main reason I believe is that the name Valkrill is owned by WOTC, a different publisher than Renegade. Also, the lore behind Valkrill is a bit shaky at best, with his origins being closely tied to D&D propertie (such as drow and the underdar)s. As far as I'm aware, Renegade has made no official comment of the canonicity of Valkrill (or if he's ever to return), but it definitely feels as Revna is the new stand in for Valkrill.

This is a really, really bad value for returning Heroscapers. I have something like 10 master sets worth of terrain. So, I end up blowing $225 for the figures...... If Renegade doesn't release a figure set for us vets, I can't see pulling the trigger on this.

I'm hoping they have figure only releases eventually. I have a lot of different paint schemes I'd like to try on the new figures, but don't want to pay the extra for additional terrain.
