@@DonJandroTv In fact, the only two ways to acquire a Fat Cat minion are via Fishing (Waterside Exploration) ventures from lvl 50 up or buying one on the market board, obviously from someone else whose Fisher retainer acquired one. No doubt there are lots of other items that can be acquired only by retainer ventures.

Honestly it doesn't matter. You wanna sell your stuff in Limsa so you can get the cross server sales. It's why you almost always see stuff being sold there primarily.

This applies to Hunting and Gathering ventures only. Quick and 18-hour exploration ventures often produce results which you, in fact, cannot gather yourself.

I actually like to overcut on my prices by 1gil, and I tend to sell faster that way. I assume because people assume I was undercut and buy my item to stick it to the undercutter. Doesn't tend to work for higher priced items, that's more based on where it's being sold, so I sell my more expensive items in the reduced cities anyway. "Quick ventures are fun because you never know what you're going to get" Fish... It's always fish... Unless you use a Fisher retainer, then it's dye - cuz that makes a ton of sense.

Good content for new folks to know, nice work Zepla :-) Something I started doing a long time ago to help keep me organized on retainers is storing certain "types" of things on certain retainers - i.e., ingredients on one, ores/metals/stone on one, wood/cloth/leather on one, etc. If you have only the default 2 retainers that are provided for free by the game, organization probably isn't too much of an issue, but if you "rent" more from MogStation (and/or have digital hoarding tendencies which may or may not be a problem from which I suffer...), I find this is a good way to keep organized on what is tucked away where and not have multiple stacks of the same thing split between multiple retainers. That's probably more of an intermediate tip than what you've covered in this video, but I wanted to add a comment with it in case it could benefit anyone who sees it :-)

Don't forget you can glam your retainers! I wish there was an easier way to do it, but for now just apply the glam to the equip you're giving them. Sometimes I go too long without upgrading my retainer's gear just because I want to keep his Noctis' glam and it's too much work to reapply it...

I feel like the retainers and the way item storage is handled is one system that felt mishandled even back in 2.0 and the game needs a major overhaul on, except will never get it because they charge moneys for extra retainers.

Thanks for the video! When I started playing FFXIV a little over a year ago, it felt like all the guides I'd find were several years old. I've never had the confidence to make content like this so I really appreciate this content coming up on KZbin more often, now. With that said, does anyone have any idea how retainers scale in terms of gear? I'm pretty sure job level = how much of an item a retainer can bring back, but is there a breaking point for their item level and how rare of loot they can bring back from ventures? Does gear item level effect their yield on gathering/hunting? Does having materia in their gear have any effect at all? Questions I've tried to Google to no avail since I started.

Correct me if im wrong but I think tax rate only affects BUYER. You still get 5% reduced gil from sales but the buyer is most likely buying your item (even at higher price) because it only has 3% tax not 5%.

So I was noticing that my Fisher retainer was bringing me back fish that didn't have recipes associated with them. Till I realize that a lot of them can be turn ins for levequests. Even at max level wait to turn these in to get the gil.

All of them of course! :) Seriously though, if you don't want to be spending a bunch of gil on ingredients, it's best to level the gathering and crafting jobs all at the same rate (or close to it). Most items that you craft are going to require ingredients from multiple crafting jobs.

first two retainers should be combat(preferably a copy of the starting job for new players) believe me or not, I rather send a retainer out for random mob drops than rely on rng extra gear from quests and dungeons can be given to retainers to accelerate process i made a guide-ish on this, the more combat retainers you have the better, but do have at least 1 of each great video as always, zepla

Then again, I didn’t know you can travel between servers inside the worlds. Example? On the world Chaos, I can travel between Cerberus and Ragnarok for example. At max level, they kinda do, to be fair 🤭 Not even any need to do any specific content for them; just from doing enough roulettes for weekly tome cap you get enough random drops that you can turn into GC seals and get more coins than you can spend.

I wholeheartedly believe that SquareEnix should give us a third retainer accessible (possibly through a level 80 quest) due to the amount of weapons and items we have accumulated through the years. It doesn't make sense to expand the game but not give us the extra space to hold on to all the things we accumulated. Thats one of my small gripes for XIV.

@@GEMINIVice1 Correct. They can't get the latest crafting clusters, but they can get anything below the latest one. Later they will be able to get clusters once the new thing is introduced. You can now get 100 shards and crystals from each venture which really helps with crafting.

if you're leveling retainers, 3 hourly ventures is more xp on a targeted harvest (not the quick ventures) than the 18hr ones. So if you'll be able to send them out 3 times in a given play session, opt for that. If you have paid for extra retainers, any alts you have will also have those extra retainer spaces available if they have retainers unlocked.

Retainers gear level requirements as of 5.3 to get the best items are to my knowledge 1746 gathering for Fishing, 2183 for Mining/Botony, and I believe ilvl 428 for Combat Retainers. Having your retainers at these breakpoints means that sending them on quick explorations they are far more likely to come back with valuable things like rank 8 materia, etc.

@@SurrealLeaf I believe 428 is the cap, going higher provides no further benefit based on the information I saw. That will change though for further patches, so you might as well keep the higher level items unless you have a better use for them at the moment.

:D Great video! It is also worth to mention that sending retainers into explorations they have a chance to bring back minions like Koala Joey, Fat Cat etc. A good combination of retainers to cover all the minions is: 1 botanist, 1 miner, 1 fisher and 1 of any DoW/ DoM job.

I'm a retainer hoarder, I guess. I've got 2 botanists, 2 miners, 2 fishers, and four hunters, all at max level. This isn't cheap (in real $ terms), but having all these makes inventory management pretty much a non issue.

Having to pay real money monthly fee for extra retainers is the #1 irritant I have on this game. It should either be a one time IRL charge or payable with Gil. I assume some people pay more for retainers than their actual subscription! That's just stupid. SE seems to be very stingy with their game memory for players. Between retainer fees, limited glamor dresser slots, and lack of housing.

For some reason people don't know this, so I'm going to share it to you all. When you purchase extra retainers they are available to your account, meaning you have extra retainers per character on said account. I have 4 in total (2 normal + 2 paid). I love playing as healer and I like doing dungeon daily multiple times a day. I get a lot of armor/gear I can trade for ventures and send retainer multiple time a day to get stuff for me. I also created 6 other characters all healer (shhh! I'm not addicted) and I do the same doing dungeons and trading armor/venture. Then when I have enough money I sell a garbage item on my main account for like 100,000 and buy it on my alt. I know it sounds like a lot of work, lvling alts, doing main quest story line, getting decent armor, lvling retainer job, etc etc but in 1 hour i can do daily dungeons on every alt, send my retainer to work on every single character and after 1 week or 2 collect 200,000 per character only if sales are going well also, I get to play as Healer every time ( I told you I'm not addicted xD) I only do the lvling dugeon under lvl 50 since i have not completed ARR story line on every one of them and I'm not planning to xD just my 2 cents. wait 1 hr for every roulette on every alt?? i think i take an hr to do roulettes on just 1 character

@@Ragingwasabi9000 no no, just the lvling roulette under 50, and the daily guildhest. I only have the low lvl dugeons: Sastasha, Hatlali, The Tam-Tara, Copperbell Mines, The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak. Aprox lvl 27 on the story line. It takes me 1 hour since sometimes I do get ifirit xD. I usually tell the tank they can aggro 5-6 or the entire room and usually is done really quick. I hate it when they take 2 mobs and take their sweet time. Sometimes i pull a couple of mobs to force it a bit but be careful, some tanks have ego issues. xD

Can you change their jobs and class for free and what about special classes like my character is a ninja so would they become one when they reach the required level as roque

Hey hey. I came here to see if hiding Retainer's Weapons was possible. My retainer wears her daggers at her sides and I don't think they fit very well with her, even though being the Rogue class specifically does. I couldn't find a definitive answer on this after Googling it. Is it possible to do?

This video is so helpful. I was kind of overwhelmed, since I purely focused on the MSQ till Dark Knight and /then/ decided to do other things, which is hiring retainers and doing other activities.
