ATTN: KZbin IS SHUTTING DOWN ALL GUN CHANNELS! I have moved over to Rumble. Others are leaving KZbin in droves as well. All my NEW content is being posted on Rumble and all my old content is being sync'd by Rumble and stored on their servers for preservation. My channel is easy to find, just search for "NFA Review" in the search bar and you can find me and subscribe! KZbin has given me 2 strikes so far on videos that weren't out during their new policy change. In addition they are deleting 5-6 videos of mine a week! They are doing the same to other Gun Channels and even the manufacturers that have channels. It's time we take our viewership over to Rumble! No more scrolling and watching non gun related content while we are logged in, no more fresh content, no more support. They don't want us here and Rumble has extended open arms to us and other free thinkers who aren't afraid to call BS on how far society has fallen! I've run this channel professionally for 12+ years, logged 60+ Million views, 10+ years of public shooting events, and hopefully provided insight and detailed information to our community helping everyone make informed decisions on hard to purchase items. I TRULY and whole-heartedly appreciate all of you. It's surreal that all my blood, sweat, and tears are about to be "digitally book burned" by KZbin but Rumble has cast a lifeline to free speech and the rights of everyone to learn about firearms and suppressor ownership! To my awesome Patreon Members and my subscribers here, thank you! We are beginning a new chapter, ushering in a new fight and WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT. See ya on Rumble! - Adam

Wow, 9 months to get a suppressor and I thought UK firearms laws were difficult! I live in the UK and legally own 4 rifles. If I want a suppressor I can just walk into a gun shop and buy one. All I need to do is provide proof of identity and address. However, if I want to fit it to my rifle I need to get a variation on my Firearms Certificate (FAC) to include a suppressor for that individual rifle. This process, where I live, only takes about a week. The odd thing is that the UK police (who handle firearms licensing) encourage the use of suppressors and will usually add a suppressor to the FAC application or variation for rimfire, centerfire and even air rifles used for hunting.

Since you've tested so many suppressors, I think a cool video would be a comparison of your favorites per caliber, or what you perceive are the quietest. Also could throw in runner ups for each caliber, or what seems to be the best performance for the price. I have an obsidian 45 and am curious how it continues to stack up against newer cans. Great video, tons of information here!

I've shot a handful of. 45 supressors on various host, Osprey, ti-rant , octane, mated to an xdm 45, 1911 (forget the mfg), and an FNX 45 tac. And to the ear the ti-rant was undoubtedly quieter on all host. This was also done in Oklahoma around June of '18 at or around 90°F.

I would argue that a suppressor is a safety device designed to protect the hearing of the shooter and any bystanders in the area, and every gun owner should be at least allowed if not encouraged to own one for each of their firearms! Indoor range owners, employees, and patrons would love to be able to have easy access to suppressors! 😀

should have the same regulations as an automobile muffler/ silencer. you can get a ticket for NOT HAVING one. in the UK where all firearms are severely regulated and highly controlled they allow mufflers even on .22's for hunting red squirrels, as seen on a PBS Special @ grey squirrel foreign invasive species.

Adam...Adam..... to see that beautiful MK25 host with the excellent Liberty Mystic X setup (I have a Mystic X Vibratited onto my MK25) shot with the hideous AE 147 hurts my feelings... Lol.. a couple of years ago that was the only sub 9 that I could get by the case in Alaska as I haven't set up my new reloading bench since I moved... It seemed OK but I was always disappointed unless I let someone else shoot and I listened and even then it just didn't seem to be quiet, I remembered my setup being quieter in my former city when I reloaded with 20 year old Israeli heavy 9's that were actually swaged (swedged?) .38 bullets squished down to 9mm .. Then I finally found S&B, PPU, IMI 158 grain ammo and I'm happy again! Just got my hands on some Remington green box 147 that is as quiet to our ears as the others and is way cheaper. I hope the case ammo dealer hasn't made a mistake. Great history video!! Going to have my son watch it later on today. I missed this one when it came out.

Interesting video. Despite the very strict firearms laws in the UK there is no charge for having a suppressor or delay, they just need to be listed on your firearms certificate (with a justifiable reason for having one, of which hunting is one). Firearms certificates are renewed every 5 years and cost either 62 GBP or 65 GBP when renewed at the same time as a shotgun certificate. I suspect this is the ONLY rule that is less strict in the UK!!!.

One thing I did not learn from this video was which recoil spring I needed to use in my 9mm handgun to eliminate casing stove piping when I shoot with a silencer. My 9mm came from the manufacturer with a 12-pound spring. Do I need to replace it with a 10-pound or a 14-pound spring?

@Craig Scott No we cant. Nor can we have pistols anymore. My point was just the irony that in the most restricted country in the world firearms wise, we can have suppressors without paperwork. My point is not about a dick measuring competition, but to show how stupid firearms regulators are EVERYWHERE. There should be no reason to regulate suppressors in the USA anymore than to ban pistols in the UK.

I don't know where you got your Maxim in formation but its incorrect. the machine gun itself was invented in South Paris Maine not Hartford Conn. and it wasn't pram maxim it was Earnest Maxim that invented the water cool machine gun . there is no such family member named pram maxim. Earnest in vented the water cooled machine gun but couldn't find a buyer in the US gov at the time. and sold the original and the prototype to the Russians. how do I know all this you might be wondering? Simple really Earnest Maxim's daughter Edith Maxim was my Great Grandmother. I lived on the family farm as a teenager. the tool shed where the prototype was built still stands.

I am looking at a dead air sand man, and the vox. I am open to suggestions though. I want quiet at the ear and reliability, built tough. Dead air has always stood out to me and I was looking at the S, now I see the nomad is a great option but I want the keymo so I can swap between the 2 rifles until I buy another silencer. Any help on this. Sandman seems cost effective because it comes with the mount and muzzle device.

The term suppressor is not a slang term for the silencer. It’s a more accurate term since a suppressor is not silent by any means. Hirim Maximum called it originally a silencer but this has been changed to suppressor over the years. Only Hollywood calls it a silencer.

I just tried my Glock 21 with old (but unused) AAC Ti-rant 45 suppressor. Kind of a disaster. No spring substitute but it cycles flawlessly. However, accuracy with suppressor is a WHOLE different question: it was horrible. 8-10" from bullseye at 15 yds (no matter what click position it was in) with pistol that was 2" high, 2" right at 15 yds unsuppressed. Suggestions?

If you have ever seen a blow poke put into a fire and then someone actually blows on it then you probably saw the fire increase in burn rate and temperature at least temporarily. This is the same phenomenon that occurs in first round pop. A small fireball comes down the barrel as you fire the weapon and it goes into the suppressor. Because the suppressor was likely filled with atmosphere as most are before being shot the oxygen present in the suppressor increases the burn rate because oxygen is an accelerant and ultimitley a vital component to a continued exothermic reaction. When the burn rate is suddenly increased because of a rapid encounter with oxygen this causes the associated gases that were supposed to be expanding and cooling to suddenly spike in both pressure and temperature/burn rate which causes the gases to exit the suppressor at a slightly higher pressure and temperature then if the suppressor had no oxygen in it. All of this combined results in a slightly louder first round because your ear percieves that increase/ change in pressure and relays it to your brain. The phenomenon is often short lived though because the shots following the first one (FRP-first round pop) travel through the suppressor after most of the oxygen has been displaced from the gases of the first shot which make them nice and quiet. With that said if the suppressor is left for a short period of time (e.g. long enough for atmosphere to re-invade the suppressor) then you will experience first round pop again.

As far as function goes, if I'm understanding, baffle system is just better than monocore? What's the benefit of monocore besides cleaning?

Hey thanks, but I'm a live sound guy for bands. I might be here by mistake. A gun without a suppresor, inflicts an "impulse response", if you test it with a microphone where the shooter's ears are, or neighboring ears to the left and right. I generally don't wan't to see more than 97dB in my ears, if I'm the shooter.

Most people don't measure their hearing protection, or their ear wax; While expecting the ambien't environment to pretend to be nominal. dB is frequently measured dBu...an arbitrary abstinence from measurement of electrical energy. Context means lots to measuring the sound of a gunshot. It's not just about the shooter. You only live with one set of numbers, with or without a suppressor. Lateral deflection can give you away.

You mentioned the form 4 process right? I’ve always wondered, you have to do a NICS check when you buy a gun, do they do a background check at all when you buy a suppressor? Or do they just want you to pay the tax and know you have it? I work at a gun shop so I know we don’t run a NICS check on the customer, but does anyone else in that 9 month process do it?

Your description of FRP is a bit off. The hot gases do not "ignite the oxygen". More like the "oxygen ignites the hot gases". The combustion of the powder is not 100% efficient (especially in a short barrel), so the hot gases still have some unburned fuel left in them, which is oxidized when the hot gases meet the oxygen in your suppressor. But oxygen does not burn.

Um....a suppressor and a silencer....are totally different. And anyone who says different doesn't know what they are talking about. The fact is that just because many people are ignorant and they refer to BOTH suppressor and silencer as meaning the same thing, that doesn't change the fact that a suppressor SUPPRESSES recoil and/or flash signature and a silencer REDUCES the sound signature. The definition of suppress is: to prevent the development, action, or expression of (a FEELING, IMPULSE, idea, etc.); another words it RESTRAINS THE RECOIL and or the 'flash' which is a viewable signature (ie flash suppressor). So no, they are not the same thing and no, someone that believes different is not ignorant. But I respect your opinion.
