"need special glasses" is BS, any super dim material will do, i always used xray films during eclipses. i seen 4 partial in my life, one was on sunrise and due to air polution you did need anything to look direcly, like in sunset ;3 its quite rare to see this too

While the eclipse is still partial (when the rim of the sun is still visible), you cannot look directly (w/out eclipse glasses or another technique). *IF* you are in the line of totality, *THEN* during the 2 (or less) minutes, you can look directly with your eyes. *HOWEVER,* you have to be careful that there are no bright spots visible before you remove your glasses.

I don't think the radiation emitted during a solar eclipse is any different than normal, but looking directly at the sun under any circumstance (without proper protection) can easily damage your eyes.

The line of totality doesn't pass through Canada, but it will be a partial solar eclipse. Unless you live way up north.

moon was not very close to earth so it was not special, 2min 40sec actully makes it one of shortest total eclupse, they can go max to 7min and eclipse in 2024 will be actully greater with 4min totality
