Oh Ash, this was one of your best OG reviews yet. I learned so much bc you explained so much of what I was curious about from that show, i.e. the chart, Jenny's character and her storyline like the manatees (what?), the circus storyline where she was naked on stage, depressing relationship with her parents, etc. It made no sense and me dislike Jenny's character. I am with you on the character's back-stories. I would have liked to known each character's background , and of course the infamous lack of timelines. Would have liked the story to have been seasonal, i.e. like a Christmas time story, etc...There's more that I can say, but I think you get at what I am saying? Oh. I had no idea the series was shot in Vancouver all that time. That was a surprise for me. Anyway, thanks so much for this review. I got a kick out of it. #Keepdoingit!

Thank you so much for this summary and would be happy for the GQ version also. TLW is my all time favorite. First I watched US Queers as Folk on TV almost without sound at night and recorded every episode on video casette. Even I loved the story line of the boys I was focused on Mel and Lindsay. As you said at that time there was no FB or IG to communicate so I was reading info on chat boards where I met a US fan of Mel and Lindsay who told me if I liked QAF for the girls I would love a new show called The L Word. I am dedicated fan of Tibette from the first minute - and now GINI forever - so I am grateful for any piece of information about them. Wow Ash!!! That was amazing! All of the videos that you shared were so fun to watch. I had no idea about Our Chart or The Farm. (must investigate lol) I started watching when the series was in its first re run stage because when it first aired i had no idea. I was raising my little girl who gave me a severe case of tunnel vision and an early bedtime. When I found out Jennifer Beals was one of the lead characters i couldn't get to it fast enough lol. I got to watch parts of Flashdance being filmed in my hometown and I had a severe crush on her ever since. Jennifer cast as a lesbian was a true dream come true....just wish it was me lol. Season 6 didn't bother me much because i knew ahead of time that it was the last season so i emotionally pulled back a bit. I get way too attached to these characters but nothing in need of a straight jacket....yet anyway lol. You have to admit that no matter how bad season 6 was the finale credits were meant to be replayed. Everyone looked so beautiful!!! (light at the end of a very long dark tunnel)lol. Have been following Ash, on IG for awhile. But, Everytime I went to watch the KZbin, something would happen & I wouldn't get to. So happy I finally got to watch. Awesome job, Ash! Btw, has anyone ever seen the old KZbin talk show, This Just Out, with Liz Feldman? Liz only interviewed queer celebs....Kate Moening & Lisha Hailey, for example. But, she had a rainbow sword thing. She called it her gay sword. The rainbow stick used to point at topics, reminds me of her using her "gay sword", in her KZbinr eps. Btw, if anyone had never seen it, I highly recommend. Some really hilarious & good interviews of everyone from The L Word cast, to Tegan & Sara.

I declare you the official L Word Historian!!!! 🏆🎗️. I'm amazed at how much of what you said I know, considering I'm a "newbie" from this decade (watched everything for the first time in 2020 and multiple multiple times thereafter). Luckily, I think I've seen it with the original music. Downloaded all the original seasons after searching a lot (now they aren't available at that website either ☺️) - I was impressed with myself when I found it. Lol. Also: Coincidence that you mention Dawson's Creek. I'm currently watching it on Netflix. This is the title track playing - is it not the original? "I Don't Want to Wait" by Paula Cole (wiki lists two, and this song is also sung by one of the characters v briefly). 👌🏽 that was fun Ash. Appreciate all the work you put in. Hi Ash, I just finished watching this whole video now, And I have to say I agree with you pretty much about everything… And I’m glad that you were as in-depth as possible about all issues of the OG… First I will say what I disagree about…Ilene made a lot of mistakes in the OG and then she tells Marja she can ignore season six all together and she’s the one that you said hand-picked Marja…worry-some😝 So you said we’re kind of lucky that season six was as bad as it was or we would not have gotten GENQ possibly… To be honest and let’s be honest Gen Q took the ball and rolled it even worse… It took the worst things and made them worse and they took the one good thing Tina and Bette and made that an unrealistic nightmare… it’s almost like Gen Q didn’t even pay attention to any of the faults of the OG … the only thing maybe they did was make it a little bit more inclusive for different types of people but they screwed up every storyline and Gen Q took away the one good thing that we had at the end of the OG…Bette and Tina… All I am saying that Gen Q also has no in-depth storylines, no humor like we’ve had in the OG… No camaraderie… No real chemistry really like Bette and Tina…Now I know this video is about the OG and not Gen Q but I’m just saying like you intertwined both of them at times… Season six was a nightmare… I agree with you the only great thing about it was to the dance episode and Tina and Bettes love scene and Bette bet telling Tina let’s get married in New York and that she makes a promise to her regarding values… those episodes were great the rest crap, just like you said and then the one really great thing that came out of the OG after six years like you said for me someone who has been invested in it since day one, And after six years like I always say they finally got Bette and Tina in a good place and now the new show takes that away… They’re not making the faults of the OG better they are making them worse let’s be honest… Even the show runner admitted she wishes she could a race 18 episodes of Gen Q… I laughed to myself when I heard you say now that you’re in your 30s you’ve gotten a little bit more critical about writing… Well let’s add 20 years to you and you’ll have me… So give me a little lead way when I piss you off about certain things I say… LOL Getting back to the OG though for me one of the worst story lines along with Henry and how they wrote Tina to hurt Bette so much by going back to a man, Although Tina is my favorite character despite her faults because I love Laurel Holloman… And of course I love Jennifer also… But one of the worst storylines for me also and I don’t even remember his name because I blocked it out is the guy that moved into Jenny’s house and was undercover filming them… What about the episodes where Jenny killed a dog had a dog put down… I can’t even watch that as an animal lover… I really feel Ash if it wasn’t for the Tina and Bette storyline, And when Dana was on the show and Helena became a better personI just liked her very much at first also what she was doing to Bette and Tina …I also enjoyed watching Dana… Until they killed her off… And Shane and Molly… Although I could’ve done without a lot of the antics of Shane and a lot of the wasted time on episodes…It never would’ve survive six years I truly believe if it wasn’t for Bette and Tina… If you look at all of the videos from the OG that people have put together from those years… Nine out of 10 are about Tibette… Also, In my opinion they should’ve kept Alice with Tosha… They should’ve kept Shane with Molly… I think that would’ve been a great couple, the whole scenario of Shane and the brother who also disappeared into nowhere again ridiculous… But on the whole despite all of that being a huge Tibette fan I was so happy at the end of the sixth season… THEN CAME GEN Q…😡 I am not alone when I say I hope they get their season three and I hope what you said is correct Ash that in the end Bette and Tina will be together again… Every character on the OG by season six said that and Tina belong together, they always have, even the actresses who play them said they belong together… And what did they do now they split them apart😡 And I totally agree with you that if they would’ve spent more time in the OG and in GENQ focusing on the characters that people really want to see things about… What a better show it would be… I would have once like to see a scene where Bette back spoke back up to Tina and said especially when they were out on the back patio after they got back together and Tina said to Bette you were my first, you left me and I thought I would die and Bette said I never left you and Tina said you did but you came back… I wish they would’ve had Bette say to Tina just one time that you hurt me terribly after the tremendous mistake I made and we finally got back together and then you left me for men/Henry… And then you decided to go back to women and never verbally said to me that you would like to get back with me… It was like both of them just didn’t say the right things to each other, Tina was encouraging Bette to be back with her yet kept saying that she didn’t want to break up her and Jodie … Bette wanted to be back with Tina and when they were already getting back together she didn’t have the courtesy to be honest with Jodie…So after all of that they finally get back together… Because they realized their love overcame everything… You can’t just take that away from all the fans… You can’t… Lastly for me, every time I watch the elevator scene which of course was great and very sensual and steamy… Why couldn’t they have let Tina finish saying how horrible she was to Bette before Bette moved over and said how much she’s in love with her… I wanted to hear Tina finally say how wrong she was also… But they cut that off.. And those interrogation tapes… I’m surprised the Jennifer and Laurel didn’t just walk out… LOL It’s almost like sometimes we care about the show more than these actors and writers and show runner do… I mean it… They should let you Ash and a few of your followers… I would be happy to do it for free… LOL write a few episodes… Certainly we couldn’t do worse😂😂😂😂 Great video, great compilation of videos from the OG… Looking forward to your holiday videos… And of course I love Ms G… I had a tabby like I said for many years and he was the best cat in the world… Of course Ms. G is also… Robin❤️

I miss Queer as Folk. That show gave me a lot of joy for 5 years. I miss Sharon Gless (much like LWord, it wasn’t about having gay actors as much as having queer icons). For the L Word, I most likely would have never watched the show if it weren’t for Mia Kirshner playing Jenny. She had totally blown me away in The Crow:City of Angels. I also knew Guinevere Turner was going to be behind it, and she already had a history in queer film. Most of the actors of the L Word were straight but most of them had played either gay, feminist, or cross dressing roles in either film or music. As a gay person, in their early twenties, living in Mississippi they were icons; moreover, they were allies. That’s what drew me in and that’s why I watched it when they came back.

Year late to the party but you mention that max was a lot of people first introduction to transgender. Well that was me. My first introduction to lesbians was willow and tara, and to this day tara remains my favorite character in any media ever. And for a very long time I understood myself as a masculine lesbian, because that was what I thought existed. My disforia about my gender must just be normal things tomboy and butch lesbians feel right? All of them must also want to bind their breast, all of them must look in the mirror and feel suicidal with the idea of growing more feminine with adulthood no matter how much they tried to push their gender expression to masculine. All the sadness and despair were normal, despite what the little representation I could sneak into my life on the middle of the night after carefully torrenting Buffy and Xena episodes on a old 1995 laptop. In came The L Word and Max, and a explosion of sudden realization that there was a name to what I felt, that what I felt was hurting me because I was desperately trying to fit into something I wasn’t. But it was the middle of the 2000, I was firmly settled in Narnia and there was little to no information about gender disforia on the internet, and what there was was hidden behind mountains of “gender ideology”, ya know, the fuck up version of it. It took until I was 27 to truly get on with transitioning, and damn if the L word didn’t left some funky aftertaste behind from their entire treatment of gender non conforming folks. But I am fond of it for getting me on track to where I am now, crappy as poor Max was handled it at least was there. And better him be the first introduction than Boys Don’t Cry, which I saw a few months later. Oof

I liked Jenny sometimes, especially season 5 when she and Nicki were together! They were adorable and hot amd had some majorly HOT sex scenes. I think the writers really ruined Jenny's character! Especially in Season 6. Season 6 ending sucked!! Even the cast didnt like it!

You had me until Bette and Tina. While I love Jennifer Beals' portrayal of Bette, I found the character to be so pretentious, mean and downright abusive to her partners. The way she mistreated Tina over and over again. If, as you suggested, they'd reunited Bette and Tina in season four and given them season five to solidify the relationship, I might have felt differently. My favorite scene is when Bette started crying after being caught cheating with Tina and Jodi yelled at her that she doesn't get to do that. I loved how Jodi put Bette in her place. There are so many holes. After season 2, how did Alice support herself? She was no longer writing and only doing a weekly radio show. She wasn't paying the rent on a nice WeHo apt on that pittance. Where did Max live after he and Jenny broke up? There was never an explanation that he moved into the shed until like season 6 when suddenly he and Tom were living there. How did Max grow a full beard in a week? The time transition between seasons 5 and 6 was a mess. Who was Kit's mother and what happened to her? Now on Gen Q there is an indication that Bette's mother may be alive. She out and out said her mother was dead on the original series. Why was Bette always crying? I guess I'm the only one who was glad that Tina found someone who loved her, Carrie, who treated her as an equal, not a possession.

@@jagti7260 I'd love for the reason Tina showed up at Bette's door is to have a frank conversation about why they're not meant to be together. Even if I didn't find Bette to be a narcissistic character, I hate the soap opera driven pattern of having a couple reunite and break up and reunite and break up and reunite. It's tedious. If the writers would craft a significant and explainable shift for Bette -- perhaps resolution with her mother -- then I'd be open to watching Tina and Better together again. I'm dubious that this writing crew, especially the show runner, has a grasp on cohesive storytelling or an interest in the original characters. So I'm going to go with something I've written several times, which is Tina and Bette are the great loves of each other's lives, but they're not meant to be together.

I don't like a lot of the pants rewatching episodes. I'll listen everthing they say but I kind of compare with Office ladies and the girls there always bring guests to comment things, they always have behind the scenes stories and information that we don't know. In pants I think they just tell what happened in the episode and what they think about it, it's another way to do a rewatch like that but I'd like to hear more new things. I like a lot of the episodes where they interview people, but I know they don't like doing that a lot.

I do wish they did it more like Office Ladies! I LOVE Office Ladies, Angela & Jenna seem like the most wonderful people and genuinely love their show & fans… I don’t get the same impression from pants lol. I actually am the one who suggested to them when they started their podcast to do the episode reviews, & when I pitched it, I used The Office Ladies format… but they just took the idea not the concept.
