My 1st sword was sharp I’ve since bought cheap and dull swords and I promise you the sharp one feels the best it looks the best and overall u won’t regret the money in the long run as the others will break chip and just not hold up as there not built for constant use it’s built for display the other one is sharp and feels amazing and hasn’t showed a sign of damage yet

I have a 2 questions 1 what kind of katana do you recommend from your website for a beginner to get? 2 can cleaning your katana to much actually damage it?

2: not really, unless you use that cheap powder they put it, the powder usually is made of grinded down polishing stone, so there is a chance that that powder might dull the shinny blade. besides that you should be ok as long you dont over do it with the oil and doesnt get into the gap of the habaki. the other thing that can be damage with over cleaning if you disassembly the blade, the mekugi might get damage and the tsuka itself since they are wooden parts and can wearoff with the process.

a quick question if you get a dull sword would you still need to clean it and if so how many times would you have to clean it

While dull katana's are not as high-quality as their sharp counterparts, they still require occasional maintenance to prevent rust. Their carbon steel blades are the same material as the sharp ones but of course, its not as high quality. Avoid touching the carbon steel directly with your hands, as your hands have moisture and can cause oxidation and rust over time

Hey mini katana I have an idea for a katana y'all should make The materials consisting of:for the blade I want it to be a mixture of Blue steel and high manganese steel, and Suasa for the handle Sakura tree wood straight from Japan and a black tai-sho era authentic battle wrap for the design I want a reversed wave design its my dream katana so hoping y'all can make a sharp battle ready one in the minikatanastore please reply if you agree or not also can the tetsuba be a combination of steal and bronze also can it be full tang

I will say that there are other high carbon steels that swords can be made with, but 10XX is definitely the most common.

For anyone considering buying their swords and think you'll be able to use it for more than cutting bottles and fruit and temporarily cutting tatami mats, sorry, their swords may be high carbon, but they aren't heat treated, these are still wall hangers and decorative, they wont hold an edge any better than low carbon steel and won't hold its shape any better either. If the steel isn't heat treated (hardened and tempered) it's not going to be ANY stronger or harder than mild steel, it wont hold an edge and it you will be able to easily bend the blade with your hands. look on the site, the swords say "for light use". remember, you're getting what you pay for. If you want a sword that will hold up to a beating, it's gotta say "fully functional" or at least say its heat treated high carbon steel. (p.s. the fact they use 1040, 1060, and 1090 as the steel for their blades means it's likely REALLY cheap Chinese steel.) their Tameshigiri Series sword IS functional, its properly heat treated and built, not sure why they don't have more heat treated swords, it wouldn't really increase the price that much for a basic monochrome steel sword (single steel, the tamahagane used is more than one type of steel making "damascus" steel or "jewel" steel).

The thing in the beginning about sharp swords being legal is that you should check your states laws. For example, NC and SC consider them as knives, so you have to be 18 to own one.

I am going to get a dull sword mainly so I can train up to use an actual sharp sword. The other reason is my parents are very against me buying a sharp katana if I'm not trained.

Hear me out, titanium katana. No rust because titanium isnt iron and so doesnt oxidise like iron, the oxide may make it lose its shine every once in a while but if im correct it wouldnt oxidise nearly as quick or as much as iron would. It may be a bit light though, which is where a titanium alloy which matches the weight of steel could possibly be used. Keep in mind i made this as a thought in the moment so it could be a horrible idea.

I bought a 1060 carbon steel katana, and 3 months later i went to unsheathe it, and the webbing of my thumb got caught in the blade path, long story short i had to get 12 stitches in the webbing of my thumb 🤣 theyre great swords, just be careful where your hand is while unsheathing
