Love your channel. I am currently a statistics junior, and im actively comparing two fields, computational data science and statistics. From what i understand and have learned so far, I can DO a lot more with my CDS knowledge from class, but i UNDERSTAND more from my stats classes. Do you have a suggestion as to the preferred major for a fluid transition to the professional world? Best wishes to you and look forward to your future content.

Can you Major in one and minor in the other? I majored in applied statistics and was able to take a lot of courses that helped me transition into the professional world .. either are probably good options 👍🏻

And thank you for the kind words, I appreciate you 😎

@@ChristianGardnerwhich one should be the major though? I talked to my stats advisor and he said, "cds is less informed". I feel like I'm learning plenty in my cds courses though? My next step is to ask a cds advisor the same question, "whats the difference between cds and stats as a major?"

@@kineticlight913 I think a statistics major will be more rigorous and more valuable tbh, I’d major in that and minor in the other but that’s just my opinion

Just discovered your channel and it's very helpful! I'm graduating this december with a math degree and been practicing SQL and Power BI to apply for entry level DA positions. I have no relevant work experience or internship so on my resume I have to make it up with some projects on real world data. Even then, this doesn't beat real world experience. Do you think I should aim for internships first? Also, do you plan on being a DA a long time or do you plan on getting into a more technical role like data scientist, machine learning engineer, data engineer, etc.? For me, my end goal is ML engineering.

Honestly, I’m not sure how long I’ll be a DA.. but I think you should be applying to both internships and entry level positions .. and apply like crazy .. thanks for the kind words!

if you were to do a master's program with your experience and educational background what would you do? or wouldn't you go into a master's?
@ChristianGardner9 ай бұрын
If I did it would probably be statistics and if not that MBA/MPH/or CS

Hey Christian. Thanks for the video. I wanted to ask a question. Do i need learn excel to land an internship as a data analyst or is python(pandas and matplotlib) and SQL enough?
@ChristianGardner Жыл бұрын
I don’t know if it is required, but I feel like most positions would consider it a given that you are Atleast somewhat proficient in Excel.. I’ve only ever used excel to share results from an analysis in a more meaningful way (pivot table/charts)

Im a Freshman in Penn State UP, I’m going into Computational Data Sciences. Should I switch it to Applied Data Science? And do you recommend to get any minor
@ChristianGardner Жыл бұрын
Nice “WE ARE”! I think both are good options, obviously computational DS will probably give you a much better background in statistics math and comp sci, so that would likely be my choice! Best of luck

Yo I’m doing a CS and Applied math double major. Am I dying poor and alone?
