Great tutorial, thanks for sharing! One quick comment, I've been making polymer clay earrings for over 5 years, I have found that Sculpey III is the least strong of the Sculpey clays. Sculpey Premo and Souffle work great as well as Fimo and Kato for strength. You should be able to completely bend the earrings in half without them breaking or snapping IF they are baked long enough. My number one mistake starting out was not baking long enough, I wasted a lot of clay!

After a lot of trial and error, I’ve learned that Sculpey III is awful for earrings. They will almost always break. It’s more for sculptures or larger thicker pieces

I just watched your video and thought that I would like to advise anyone that has never used polymer clay to please read all the instructions and not to use their regular oven to bake them in please use a toaster oven dedicated to hobies

there is no problem baking the clay in a home oven and small toaster ovens are bound to burn your clay. Just bake the clay in a covered dish or a pan covered with aluminum foil

Why should you not use your regular oven? What if you don’t have enough for a toaster oven as well as other material?

@@spiritualsoulchild you can use your regular oven. Just make sure you either use a covered pan (used for polymer only) or a pan / tray covered with aluminum foil. Two of those disposible lasagna pans clipped together are great too. Plastizers are oily and hard to clean from the stove walls if you do a lot of clay.

I have been told by experienced polymer clay earring makers that Sculpey III is NOT the correct clay to use for earrings. It is not made for thin projects. It breaks easily when made into earrings, fyi.

Sculpey III is more brittle than Premo or Souffle. Bake for 60 min.

Yes, sculpey III is not to be used for making jewelry items. It is a kid friendly clay, not for real makers, no matter how long you bake it.

I have been making polymer clay for over 20 yrs and don't recommend using Sculpey III for jewelry. It is very brittle and not durable. Premo Souffle or Premo, Kato, Fimo, and Cernit are much better quality. E600 is also not good for use with polymer clay. it degrades over time and things will fall apart. Loctite super glue gel is better. My biggest tip is yo make sure you use a oven thermometer to check your oven temperature. Most oven do not cook at the temp on the dial. Almost all bad pieces of clay are either not cured or over baked.

Hmm it seems to me to be a whoooooooole lot of trouble to cut the shapes of clay with the machine, rather than just using cutters made for that. It also looks like it sticks a lot too. Also Sculpey III is the worst polymer clay to use. It is not strong, and is mostly for children to use. Absolutely no offense intended to the lady making this video. Its the machine. I dont think its intended to cut things like clay, as you have to cover it and use tape and all of these things just to get it to sort of work. I watched this to see the machine at work. I was considering buying one, but it looks like its mostly made for other things like cards and such. :)

Yes it is for just a few pieces. I have been cutting clay on digital cutters for quite awhile. It is most useful if you need to cut a lot of the same shape that isn't the shape of commercial cutters. Like 30 holly leaves for a holiday ornament. I'm not sure why she put another layer of freezer paper over the clay. That really isn't necessary.
