I have a window unit evaporative cooler. I replaced the pump last year. And I clean up the calcium every year. Works great in Colorado with our low relative humidity! Cools my whole house down on hot days!

Why couldn't you have pulled that blower pulley off, it's the only one on KZbin with four spokes like mine. All I've been able to do so far is get the pulley off with the spokes, but the hub is still attached to the shaft. I pulled the set screw out and it won't budge. I'm thinking about cutting through the hub, but it's so close to the bearing, I don't know if I'll be able to get close enough. On top of that, I can't see the end of the shaft, the old hub covers the end of the shaft completely. May have to cut the shaft and replace it too.

That amp meter is only meant to read one hot wire at a time. It will not read current coming back on the neutral. Make sure your setting is on Amps as well. When you go over a hot and neutral it cancels itself out. The only way to read voltage is with the leads and having it set on voltage (AC or DC). Auto ranging means it will automatically pick up the range of amps or volts...most older meters you had to pick the correct setting to read that particular range. I’m a union electrician and I Use the higher version of that meter...to me it’s a great meter. Let me know if you have any questions about it or any electrical questions

Sorry in advance Justin, we really had issues with this product. We solved our issues with eh swamp cooler LOL once we bought this living and working place we tore this apart, through down the pieces and added it to the scrap pile that is our thought as LOL we are funnin here but no we shucked that water sucking monster as far as our two older guys hands could throw it. Thank you for the share, Lance & Patrick. All kidding a side our precision watchmaker machinery cannot have water we run a really dry arid clean outward pressure sealed workshop.

So I switched this year from Aspen pads to DuraCool. I live in an arid part of Colorado. It is currently 73 degrees outside and my swamp cooler is registering an output temp of 71 degrees!!! Yep you read correct. ONLY 2 degrees cooler than the outside, dry air--no rain, moisture or humidity present, BTW) Pump and Blower are working great. Water flow is visible down all sides of each panel. After watching another KZbin video of a man's dissatisfaction with the DuraCool pads, I decided to check something that he mentioned. Sure enough.... the INSIDES of almost all the surfaces of the DuraCool pads are BONE DRY!!! The external surfaces (with the water visibly draining down them) are soaking WET. My Aspen cool SO MUCH BETTER than these. Any idea what could be causing this? I feel so ripped off since the DuraCool were more expensive and were touted to increase cooling efficiency.

Hey nice vdi little dif, apprentice lectrician here, my only suggestion to keep that running longer would be to replace that bit of flex sleeving from the trough to the switch. wasnt doing much to protect your wire looking like that :)

The pulley is not how to adjust tension. It adjusts the speed of the blower. The larger you make that motor pulley the faster she spins just like your old bicycle. Do check the alignment and tracking of the pulleys and slide either pulley on the shaft to make them both line up.

I thought the same thing before I got into it and I had a customer who was an electrician tell me to just mark the wires and pay attention to the order in which I take them out and I should be fine. He was right. Now for any other household electrical I agree. I too plan on leaving it to the pro's, but the cut off switch being right there... No worries no electricity running through it. Hope the video helped. Thanks for the comment and watching.

the amprobe didn't work because you had it clamped over all the wires you just clamp it over the hot wire we put those on before we start any motor in restaurants they have swamp coolers they call them makeup air because the range hood suck a lot of air. , also you need to get those perfectly levels so the water won't run only on one side of the pad.

@rynait
@rynait 4 жыл бұрын
Totally disagree. I bet those who accuse pad crap advice and developed their misconceptions without understanding the material science. You dont care how water is running through or water absorbing fiber [period]. you have to care about water EVAPORATING. Now, with help of material science different materials pad has different evaporation effect-techniques. I tried all three and noted this... it is the problem when calicification begins to ruin the effective evaporation... a) blue pad is pure spun plastic fused, forcing water to spread out and evaporate. supposedly last longer because it is irrevelant to calcium buildup: when calicified pad becomes "clogged" (preventing air to pick up water when passing through) or harder (not pressable or pinchable); time to replace. some swear it does not evaporate well... see the regardless section below. b). aspen pad does absorb water until it is waterlogged, then pad begins to evaporate. CATCH-ALL!!! evaporates after waterlogged [not before]. when calcium binds to wood fibers creating crinkle like sounds when pressed or moved, cooling fails (not because pad is hard}. time to replace. c) there are greenish brown pads, they are paper impreganted with something some sort of waxy chemical or thin plastic??. This green pad has what looks like the widest "air opening cavities" but is not because of the waxy coating creating invisible barrier. It was supposedly imitate aspen pads. I discovered this is not true. is an "both" from effect of blue pad and aspen pad... whereas at start pumping behaving blue pad; then [depending on models and outside; in 10 to 15 minutes] starts soaking, behaving aspen pad. The obvious time to replace pad is when calcium build up destroys the weird waxy coating or when paper is crumbly when pressed. d) on different notes: if you are going to say clay and sand type materials [AFRICAN and ARABIA is using those type science] and from what i read and understood ::: the process relies on shaking up or turning over calicified sand to create water evaporation. That does mean cheaper materials.; but the reports indicates weak cooling circulations. by the way SAND is heavy. REGARDLESS SECTION homeowner with swamp coolers should haven been told and know!!! 1) when temperature soars to greater than 97 degrees Farenheight. Water evaporates so fast and water never had chance to completely saturate the pads... this results in faster clacification build up [and equal ineffective evaporation and cooling.] 2) outdoor humidity could stops cooling efficiency, ranging somewhere 35% ish maybe 40% ish. PAY ATTENTION: resulting no cooling effect but higher humidity still alow the water to evaporate, and running the machine pump during higher humidity; pad still get calcified.

I have my own business fixing these coolers. Honestly the price you just paid to rebuild that thing you’re better off replacing it like you did because once they ever start to rust it does not stop. I would talk the customer into replacing that cooler completely glad you did and decided not to do a “Restore”. Just not worth it with a Evaporative Cooler.
