Awesome timing to find this project! I've got an E30 318is I am looking to start piecing together a k24 swap as well. I figured I'd search YT for any new content last night and came across your channel/build! What are your plans for power steering and AC? Are you ditching AC or have a plan to run both? I am in the southwest so AC is a must if I want to use the car for half of the year, so I will need to go with an electric p/s solution.

Hey!! Welcome, hopefully my channel can help you out a bit, I'm going to be going with electric power steering out of a Volvo, and for a/c I'm not sure yet, I've thought about doing electric ac as well, but that will be a thought after I get it running!🙂 I'll have to see if there is also a way I can modify the k series to have an ac bracket and what not when it's in the car

@@ProjectRacecar2 awesome! I was actually watching a Volvo swap video after I commented. That or a MR2 pump looks to be the move. I know with k power’s pan they say the factory pump works thanks to the geometry of the pan. I’m likely going to plop down the dough for their kit and cry a bit internally. Excited for more content! It will be such a fun car with the k24, especially boosted. I was contemplating a LS swap, but the k24 just fits the soul/purpose of the car better.

@@jooooohn401 my original plan was an LS but it doesn't make sense with the difficulty of regular maintenance and spark plugs ect, the k has plenty of room, but yeah it's a bit of an expensive swap but at the same time if you blow the motor it isn't $8k to replace, that's my thought process! But yeah it will be a really fun car!! I'm close to getting everything bolted up and into the car so the power steering will be very soon!!

That's a very good question, I personally used my stock e30 transmission mounts and support bracket and it fit perfectly I do have a 318is which has the same tilt as the zf transmission so I'm not sure how much that changes things, you can buy them new for about $50 if you want to try with your stock e30 mounting bracket and worst comes to worst you order a new one! Hopefully this helps!

@ProjectRacecar2 I am in the process of doing a K24A2 swap into my 1986 bmw 325e and I am looking into the Kpower industries kit however I was told that I need a clutch. Which clutch did you go with? Any help with this would be awesome as well as a link. Another question I had was, which ECU did you go with?

Hey Joel! This is the clutch that I went with, I used Togue Factory for my flywheel, I am also using a zf transmission but I don't think that changes much! K power industries recommends a luk clutch part # 03-049 which is what I would go with if you have the k power kit! I decided to go with the link hc20x because it's a plug n play standalone, but for ease it would be good to use hondata k pro to run the car! I hope this helps! I currently have ordered parts through, tf works and I believe I'm going to get most of my parts through them because they have a lot more turbo focused parts, I'll be doing a review of the parts when I get them, but k power also has very good products

Can it be any variation of the K24 engine?

You can do a few different k series variants but you can run into some issues, some of them don't have the rbb style head so the intake manifold won't bolt up to it, I would check k power industries they will have a list of engines that work with the kit!

Hi! That's awesome that you are doing a k swap as well! I'm planning on doing a turbo build and for that reason I got a zf 5 speed! They handle a bit more power! But you can also find a getrag 260 out of a 325 e30 for pretty cheap!

What differential did you go with?

I currently have my 318is 4.10 diff, but when I turbo the car in the future, I will need to upgrade so I got a medium case differential out of a z3 which is a 3.25 lsd

@@ProjectRacecar2 I was looking at the brz 4.3 differential with the zf6 would be better for longer drives. At least thats what ive been reading on. So are you going with the 3.25 for a track car only set up?

From the 318is? I'm not totally sure, but from what I've heard the getrag 240 has the same bolt pattern as the zf transmission! So it should work!

K power industries has a kit that will get you pretty far for about $5100 but you also need the engine, transmission, exhaust and ECU, I think you can get everything done for about $7,000

@@ProjectRacecar2 that's great that you were able to help keep another e30 on the road. My son has a 318is too. In fact, that car is the reason I bought my e30 318i touring. My car has the M40 single cam 1.8 liter engine and it sucks. Lol. After driving my sons car with the m42 I want to swap one into my car and build a 318is wagon that never existed. The m42 is a direct bolt in and the only changes I'll need to make are the exhaust header(still have that?), flywheel and clutch and ecu. If I can't find a good M42 I may go the K swap route or possibly the Toyota 3GSE BEAMS engine. There is a complete kit available for that now too. Including ecu and exhaust. I just subscribed and will go back to watch from the start of the project. The video I responded to was the first of yours that I have seen. Love the project! 👍

Yeah the wagons are sweet but the m40 does suck lmaoo, the m42 is really a great engine! I do still have the exhaust headers if you were interested, but yeah we will see how well the k series goes!! I'm thinking it should be a good swap, it's a bit expensive but most engine swaps are

This answer isn't going to help, I'm not 100% sure, I have tried to ask the companies they only guarantee fitment on the 260 and the zf, the 240 shares the same angle and bolts as the zf so you would need that adapter plate, the companies might have had someone that has done it since. You might want to cross referencing the size of the clutches and flywheels to see if they are different sizes for the 240-260, because the clutch might not fit the the depth of the 240 if that makes sense! I wish I had a full answer
